Aurora was shocked and for the next few seconds, she found herself tongue tied. She stared at Patrick with a poker expression, unable to find words to retort back at him.
All her efforts, to see that she made Patrick what he dreamt about, was not appreciated all because of Adrian Lester? Who has jinxed her in her past life that she wouldn’t find happiness in this life again once she crosses paths with the Lester family son?
“Did you think through your words before sprouting it or you simply blurted it out unknowingly?” Aurora asked, her gaze fixed on Patrick.
This fellow stood by her momma when her Papa died. He had a cross with Adrian because of her and without thinking twice, was ready to discard the great prospect and the future of financial stability that stares at him because of that demon surnamed Lester?
“Of course I’d thought it through. I am not that kind of person who forgets past favours and friendship because of present opportunity” Patrick declared.
Adrian had proved over time to be a true and trusted friend. How can he act as if he meant nothing to him or that his happiness doesn’t concern him?
If he wasn’t there, it would be better. If he didn’t hear his words, his sincere apologies and his confession of love towards her, it wouldn’t have bulged him. But now, it’s the opposite.
“If you think Adrian is the only condition attached to us being partners, then we quit and go our separate ways” Aurora declared.
Why didn’t she think that Patrick is a close ally of Adrian? Your friend speaks volume of who your personality is. She should have known that only birds of a feather flocks together.
“If you won’t accept a sincere apology but by thinking that paying Adrian back in his own coin will give you that pleasure and satisfaction that you desire, then you left me no option than to quit” Patrick replied.
Aurora returned home more demoralised than she was that morning. How can he turn her down, how can he not consider the effect and the financial implications she’d put into the project?
As she got into her room, and shut the door, she sighed softly. Patrick Connor is a good friend. She wants to have such a great friend like him. They got acquainted with each other through Adrian.
She used to be Adrian’s wife and he is his friend. He’d treated her like a friend’s wife back then and even stood up for her. He’s a man of character and she admires him greatly.
Patrick called Adrian again, on his way to his hotel room and the latter answered his phone. Without asking questions, Patrick requested for his address.
Now standing in the hotel room with Adrian, the latter was furious. He could perceive the aura coming from him. He knew he was upset with him, and he thinks he has the right to be.
Anyone in his shoes would feel the same way as well. It wasn’t intentional, Aurora wants it so. It’s only his responsibility to keep her secret. When it was time for him to know about her existence, the discovery flowed naturally, without a finger pointing.
“Why did you do this to me?” Adrian demanded. From the moment he opened the door to Patrick, those were the first words he spoke to him.
“I haven’t done anything to you, Adrian” Patrick replied flippantly. What can he do? He’s caught in the middle and doesn’t know where to turn.
“You know she was alive and you didn’t tell me. I willingly agreed to invest in your company and help you grow, but you declined. I came to you to get things straightened out between us and even slept in your house, yet you kept mute about it.
But you went into partnership with my wife. You became her friend, you quickly got a replacement for our friendship. You signed a deal with her.
It’s clear and obvious that you have defined in plain terms, where your loyalty lies. Our years of friendship meant nothing to you at all?” Adrian snorted.
Yes, it meant nothing to him. He prefers gain and advancement with Ava that remained loyal and committed to the bond of their friendship.
“Why are you blaming me now, Adrian? You should have listened to me back then. You shouldn’t have taken those steps you took nor go the way you went. All of these wouldn’t have happened…” Patrick was saying when Adrian interrupted him.
“Is that enough reason to betray my trust and confidence in you? You know I was worried and depressed about her death and kept the truth from me, you didn’t tell me Ava Leon is alive as Aurora Blake?”
Patrick didn’t react to Adrian’s outburst but simply continued “Anyways, like I was saying, that isn’t why I didn’t tell you about Aurora. She doesn’t want you to know about her existence and her changed personality. I have to respect her opinion and when it was time for you to know, didn’t you know about it?” Patrick explained.
“Why are you here?” Adrian asked. He should get down to it already and spare him time. He has more pressing needs to attend to.
“To check on you and explain things” Patrick stuttered. He didn’t know what to say exactly but since what was bothering him has got to do with making Adrian understand why he did what he did, he gave that answer.
“You can see that I’m fine and you have given your stupid explanation. You can leave now” he requested, his voice filled with a tone of finality.
The next two days, things went as expected until one evening, Luna heard the doorbell rang. Surprised at who could be at her door, she went to get it
When she opened the door, her complexion went ashen, dazed and surprised by who stands at her door….
