Chapter 62
Alpha Damon walked back slowly to his office, as he was just as disorganized as he was the previous day when he was told about the incident. He walked slowly to his chair, with a heavy heart and surprised emotion, he could not help but heave a sigh as he sat down on his chair. Work seemed to be over for the day, as he shut down his computer when it was not even midday yet. Leaning backwards to rest his back, he tried not to think about Ava, but his subconscious mind would not let go of the thought, and it hurt him so bad.
“Perhaps I should not have reacted the way I did. But I was angry.” He said to himself, trying to justify his action towards Ava. “Who knows where she is headed now. Even if I despise her at the moment, I still don’t want anything to happen to her.” He thought for a moment before he was jolted from his reverie by the sudden knock that came in his door. He tilted his head rapidly to look at the door, and wondered who could be there at the moment. “I just hope it’s not one of my secretaries.” He whispered to himself before yelling.
“Come in.” And the door suddenly opened, revealing princess as she walked in with a slight smile on her face.
“Good morning alpha Damon.” She greeted sharply as she walked into the office slowly. He seemed to be lost and did not notice when she greeted him. He only continued to stare at her, but he was not thinking straight at that point.
“I am greeting.” She said in a much louder tone, this time he shook his head slightly to give her a sigh that he was aware.
“How are you today?” He asked as he began to look around his table, searching for nothing in particular.
“I should be asking you that. Especially after the way you texted yesterday. You got me worried, and you knew I could not go out in the cold considering the type of dress that I had in yesterday.” She said, and he heaved a sigh, leaning backwards to rest his back on the swirling chair, not uttering a word immediately.
“Well, I am fine, to some extent. I mean, I have to try to come to terms with it.” He said, and she smiled a bit. He noticed the smile on her face, but a part of him was uninterested in the reason she was smiling, as he had a more pressing issue at hand.
“You don’t look fine to me. Tell me what is going on with you.” She said, looking at him directly in the eyes as she waited for him to respond. He only kept mute for a moment as he tried to arrange the thoughts in his head before he talked.
“I don’t know. I just don’t know. But I am fine, though. I am fine and there is nothing to worry about.” He said, trying not to spill anything in her presence, and she understood immediately, not pressing further.
“I told you I was not lying. I know you had thought that I was lying in the first place. At least you would trust me now, even if it’s just a pinch.” She said, and he only inhaled deeply, as he did not want to talk further. “She doesn’t seem to understand that I don’t want to talk at this moment. I just want to be left alone.” He thought as he kept staring at her in the eyes and not uttering a single word.
“What do you intend to do about it now?” She asked, and he shook his head slowly, tired and frustrated further, now that her questions had become incessant.
“I don’t know for now. I just have to take it all in and know what to do next.” He said in a low tone as if he were running out of breath.
“Okay. I just want you to be okay. She does not deserve to make you feel this way. Please be fine for me.” She said rapidly, tilting her head around the whole place. He nodded his head slightly, taking a deep breath as he leaned for, placing both arms on his desk before he talked.
“I am fine. You seem to have some work to do, right?” He asked, trying to get her out of his office, but she thought for a while before shaking her head slowly to say no and chuckled loudly.
“I don’t have anything at all. I finished all before coming home yesterday.” She said, and he heaved a sigh of frustration, placing both hands over his face. “Now I have to act normal in her presence because I don’t want to share anything with her. I don’t even trust her one bit.” He thought as he slowly leaned backward and swirled around on his chair.
“I did not even know when you got out in the morning.” She said, and he shook his head.
“Yeah. I stopped by at your room, but you were sound asleep. I didn’t want to wake you up because I was a bit up earlier than usual.” He said, and she took a deep breath, leaning back to relax too. There was a moment of silence before it was broken by the loud sound of knocking that came on the door.
“Come in.” He yelled, tilting his head to look at the door as it opened, revealing one of the secretaries that walked in with a file in hand. “There is no way I am attending to this today. I need to be at my best to do work right now. I am not in a right state of mind to do any work. But first, I need to find a way to get her out of my office. I have to be alone.” Different thoughts ran through his mind. It was as if he had different voices, lining up in his mind and having a conversation.
“Good day Alpha.” She greeted the alpha and bowed her head slowly.
“Yes. What can I do for you?” He asked, not even responding to the greeting.
“This came in for you. It says that it is unofficial, and it is directed to you. Some unknown persons dropped it off at the reception this morning.” She said, and his eyebrows went narrow as he had a flash of a million thoughts in his mind as he stared closely at the paper that she was holding.
“What could this be?” He asked himself as he opened the paper. He read a few lines and then his phone started to buzz, making him lose focus on what he was doing. The secretary bowed her head to leave the office. Just then, princess stood up abruptly from the chair and just as she was to leave, her eyes caught a word on the paper that alpha Damon had dropped in the table to receive a call. She tried to take her eyes off for a moment, but she kept tilting her head back to look at what it contained.
Moments after, he was done with the call and swirled back to face the front of his desk. He totally forgot that there was a paper that was brought in for him just now, as his mind was occupied with the thoughts of Ava. He could not seem to stop thinking about her, and it was driving him crazy.
“Why are you still here? Don’t you have an office to stay?” He asked her harshly as he looked at her directly in the eyes with a slight frown on his face.
“What happened? Why the sudden change of mood and tone. Did something happen over the phone with anyone?” She asked as she leaned forward slowly with a mixture of pale and puzzled look on her face. At this time, she had already grabbed the letter that was brought and put it in her bag.
“Just go to your office.” He repeated, but this time not in a harsh tone, as he spoke in a low tone. She had no choice but to do as she said as she stood up slowly from the chair and walked towards the door.
“Are you sure you don’t need me to do anything for you?” She asked, and he shook his head, not saying any word. She finally opened the door and left as he heard her footsteps fading away. He heaved a sigh of relief as he brought out his phone, contemplating on whether to call Ava and talk about it amicably with her. A part of him wanted to do so, but another part was trying to prevent his ego from getting bruised. He chose not to call her, as he will only allow thing to flow naturally.
“I need to clear my head. I need to find my way to the lake.” He said as he stood up rapidly from the chair and packed his desk as if he were done for that day. He picked up his phone, shoving it into his pocket and also his car keys. He walked out of the door, hoping that he does not bump into princess at all. Not long after, he was out of the office and in his car. He drove back to the pack house and parked inside. He did not bother to change his dress, as he only dived into the bush, trying to locate the path that led him to the lake where he found peace yesterday.
