Chapter 63
Ava walked out of the room hurriedly, walking in no particular direction as she just walked where her legs could carry her. “How dare he come back to meet me in my office and continue the abuse on me?” She asked herself as she continued to walk, fighting the tears that threatened to escape her eyes. She became tired of fighting it, and then she freely let the tears pour. “Even when I thought hiding it would give me peace, he still found out and now this is what I get?” She asked herself as she could no longer think straight while she walked.
“Call Mika.” Her mind suddenly told her, but she checked her pocket but could not find her phone. She halted her rapid steps immediately, tilting to look at the back as she calculated the distance that she had covered. She contemplated on whether to go back to the office to pick up her phone or not. Her heart raced slightly faster than normal and placed her hand on her stomach and rubbed gently before she made the decision to go back to the office. “I wished I had picked up my phone just now.” She thought as she began to walk back to the office.
Not long after, she had forgotten about how angry she was and went straight back to her office, heaving a sigh as she sat back on her chair. She searched her desk for her phone and found it lying on the desk. Her heart pounded harder in her chest, and it was because of two things. The walk back from where she walked to, and then the fear of meeting him on her way back to the office.
“I have had enough of him already. There is no way that I would ever let him know that he is the father of my child.” She thought, and then her phone suddenly started to buzz. She picked it up placed it and looked at who was calling her. “Mika!” She whispered and picked up the call, placing the phone over her ears, and clearing her throat slightly before she talked.
“Hello, Mika.” She said in a sharp tone and waited for her to reply.
“Hello, what happened to your phone, I have been trying to reach you for a while now, but it’s not going through.” She said, and Ava only took a deep breath as she tilted her head away slowly.
“I don’t know. My phone could be out of service, perhaps. I just wanted to call you. Mika, I am not fine at all.” She said, trying to fight the tears that threatened to escape her eyes, but she could not as she sniffed.
“Why? What is wrong? What is going on?” Mika asked the three questions at the same time, giving no space for Ava to answer any. Ava kept mute for a moment as she did not know where to start her explanation.
“Where are you first of all?” Mika added abruptly as she did not hear her talk after all her initial questions.
“I am at work. Can you come and get me from here, please?” She pleaded and waited, anxious for Mika to talk.
“Yes. Just be safe where you are. I am coming to get you now.” She said, and Ava nodded her head and heaved a sigh, not uttering a single word as the call suddenly came to an end. She took a deep breath, scrolling through her phone and searching for nothing in particular. Soon, she was lost in thought as her mind wandered off to different places. She recalled when her life used to be alright, and she did not have to worry about anything. Not until she came back that day to find out that she was mated to the devil’s step-brother.
Her phone suddenly started to ring, which jolted her from her reverie as she immediately looked at who was calling. She was not surprised to see Mika calling, as she kicked up immediately and placed the phone over her ears.
“I am here! Where are you?” She asked, and Ava began to nod her head slowly as she stood up from her seat and moved towards the door.
“I am almost outside the building.” She said in a low tone as if she were almost out of breath. She ended the call abruptly, holding her phone in her hand as she walked slowly and gently, as she did not want to draw any attention towards her.
Not long after, she was outside the building, and she looked around to see Mika where she was standing. She ran over to her and gave her a warm hug to ease her tension and calm her nerves.
“What is wrong with you?” Mika could not help but ask in a low tone as if she were whispering as she noticed the heavy eyes of Ava.
“I can’t talk right now, let’s go to our usual spot,” Ava said as she withdrew from the hug, and they both nodded their head before heading to where they had in mind to go.

“You wouldn’t believe what alpha Damon did today.” Ava finally broke the silence as they only stared at the lake for a moment since they got there. The sound of the birds chirping and the trees howling lowly, filled the air as they both stared at the lake as if they were trying to scan the whole of the water with their eyes before Ava talked.
“What did he do?” Mika asked abruptly, tilting her head slowly to look at her friend, who sat beside her closely. Ava heaved a sigh as she did not know how to explain herself, causing her to heave a heavy sigh.
“He found out about the pregnancy. And he confronted me about it today.” Ava said, and Mika’s eyes suddenly went wide open as she gasped.
“How did he know about it?” Mika asked in a low tone as if she were out of breath.
“I don’t know. But he made mention of princess. I think she was the one who told him about it.” Ava explained slowly, gesturing every word with her hands. She took a deep breath she suddenly lowered her head, trying not to remember how he talked to her that morning.
“What did you do? Did you deny it?” She asked, and Ava raised one of her shoulders to meet with her bent head as gestured to say no.
“I did not deny it. There was no way I could hide it for that long. They will eventually notice as time goes on. Especially as the bump is growing every moment.” She said in a low tone as if she were whispering and Mika only nodded her head as she tilted it away slowly.
“Did he know who the owner is?” Mika asked abruptly taking a deep breath as she continued to stare into the lake. She picked a pebble and threw it into the water, making a funny sound.
“No. I mean, how could I possibly tell him who the owner of the baby is? I don’t think I want to do that.” Ava said slowly as if she were counting her words as she spoke them.
“That’s the right thing to do. He does not deserve to know.” Mika supported and Ava took a deep breath as she was already calm at this point.
“He called me a whore and a gold digger. Imagine, if only he knew….” she tried to talk, but Mika interrupted sharply as she had surprise written all over her face.
“What did I just hear you say?” She asked, cocking her head to one side and raising one of her eyebrows as she could not believe her ears.
“Yeah! You heard me right. He called me all of that for real.” Ava repeated sharply, and Mika shook her head as her face slowly transformed into a frown.
“How dare he call you such types of names? He has no right to do such. And what did you do when he did that?”! Mika asked, with her eyebrows furrowed as she had a mixture of curiosity and anger expressed on her face.
“I yelled back at him, telling him that he had no right to call me those names. That was the main reason I left the office. Not even because he found out about the pregnancy. It seems that there was more to what he knows than just the pregnancy.” Ava explained as she made a straight face, trying to think of a link that connected his reaction to the pregnancy, but nothing was coming forth.
“I don’t think so. He had always had such a type of behavior in him.” Mika said, expressing how much she despises alpha Damon even more than Ava herself.
“He said I was fucking strangers and getting pregnant for them. I think Princess told him a whole lot more.” Ava said, and Mika shook her head gently, heaving a sigh as she thought of what next to say.
“Then I guess it’s time to pay her a visit,” Mika said, and there was a moment of silence as both of them only took deep breaths and watched the lake. Different thoughts ran through Ava’s mind as she sat there. She subconsciously placed a hand on her stomach and began to rub it in a circular pattern.
“I will protect you with all I have.” She whispered to herself, feeling a huge sense of responsibility. The wind blew across the trees behind them, and they could hear the leaves rustling as they moved in the direction of the wind.
“I almost forgot to tell you,” Ava said as she tilted her head to look at Mika.
