Chapter 31
Ava waded through the water for a few minutes before she climbed onto the dock to sit.
She could not sleep throughout the previous night and had decided to come out to the lake for a swim.
Something to help clear her head from the constant weight of thoughts.
All she wanted was one day without having to overthink or even think anything at all.
So she had gotten up earlier than usual for a swim, the lake was still, and the environment was serene and quiet except for the chirping of birds and the hum of insects.
She was, still is, and will always be a lover of nature, something was intriguing about being in the wild.
Ava would have preferred to go for a little hunt, but her wolf was not exactly ready for it just yet do she lay on the dork, bathing under the bright warm early morning sun.
Deciding it was enough, she got dressed and walked back home. Contrary to what her wolf wanted, she wanted to be out, but Ava was not exactly in the mood to transform, so she walked instead.
It was a long walk, but this was her major and mostly only form of exercise so far.
Soon the house was in sight, pausing to catch her breath, Ava sat on the green grass beneath her feet.
Being tired easily was normal for her now considering her condition. It’s only been a few weeks, and she has not started showing up yet, but she can feel it now.
The sun shone brightly ahead, and Ava could tell she was going to be late for work.
Hurrying on, Ava picked up her slippers and hurried the rest of the way bare feet.
“Ava” Alpha Jude called just as she walked into the house, clothes wet and bare feet, her soggy damp slippers in hand.
“Not now, please,” Ava said as she walked past him, heading straight for her room.
She would not stand to listen to him whine and ask her to terminate the pregnancy.
If she heard those words one time, she might puke.
“Wait.” Alpha Jude called behind her as she walked past him.
“No” Ava retorted, walking into her room and slamming the door behind her.
Getting ready for work, she headed into the bathroom, taking a hurried bath she donned a green floral gown that fell to her ankles.
Skipping down the stairs, she hurried out to her car, taking a mental note to get both breakfast and lunch.
She had been eating a little more than usual, she blamed it on the baby though, and maybe she had gained a little weight around her middle area.
Gaining a pretty pound was nothing bad to her, but she was having a bit of a hard time accepting it, but she knew she would in the end.
She also blames it on the insatiable hunger that seemed to claw at her every few hours.
Stopping at the cafe, she grabbed herself some donuts coffee, and some juice, and she headed out.
The car came to a stop as she parked in the parking lot. Sighing, she took a deep breath to calm herself down and prepare for whatever was waiting on the other side of the door.
Grabbing her purse, and her goodies, she opened the door, stepping out and locked it behind her.
She walked briskly into the office, heading straight for the office, thankful there were not any meetings or conferences.
Taking her seat, she went over the pile of files on her desk, sorting and signing and writing off until she was tired.
Stopping every few minutes to munch on her donut and sip her coffee.
A knock from the door got her attention, making her push her box of donuts to the side and wipe her lips clean.
She called out a little “come in” with her mouth half full.
“Hey” Alpha Damon’s face popped from behind the door, and she nearly choked on her donut.
“Hey,” Ava answered, “what do you want?” She asked instinctively, he had never been in her office except that one time when she had brought him here to get fucked.
“Oh nothing, just checking in on you.” He said, walking into the office.
“Ow thank you, I’m good,” Ava said.
A bit of her wondering why he was checking in on her.
“I dropped you off last night Ava, you seemed pretty knocked out for someone who only just had dinner,” he said, taking a seat opposite her.
“Are you alright?” He asked again, looking at her straight in the eyes.
Ava looked away, afraid he would see the real reason in her eyes not that it was even remotely possible to do that, but just in case he had some sort of superpower to do that, she wanted to avoid it as much as she could.
“I am fine” Ava answered instead, “I was just very, very tired.” She said, giving him the only and first excuse she could think of.
“Well, I hope you are fine now.” Alpha Damon said, “You could take some time off work if you need to.”
“Oh no, no, I am perfectly okay now,” Ava said rather too fast for him to believe, but he waved it off.
She would much rather come up to West Wood to work every day than be stuck in that house thinking about what next alpha Jude will hit her with.
He might as well ask for her head on a platter if he could. Suggest she terminate the pregnancy.
“Ava?” Alpha Damon called as he saw how zoned out she looked.
“Ava?” He called again, waving a lean hand in front of her face.
“Yeah?” Ava answered as she came to, shaking her head slowly as she stared back at him, her cheeks red with embarrassment.
“Sorry, I zoned out.” She said.
“It’s alright.” Alpha Damon said, getting up to leave, “I will leave you to it, just came to check up on you.”
Ava watched him stand up and walk towards the door, his hands neatly tucked into his suit pants.
“Damon?” she called just as it got to the door.
Dashing out of her seat, she walked over to him, and without a word, she planted a kiss on his lips, without a warning.
Alpha Damon, though caught by surprise, held on to her tightly as he returned the kiss, his hands finishing her waist.
While hers traced to his neck, wrapping around him slowly and softly.
Their bodies molded Into one as they held on as their life depended on it.
The kiss got deeper and deeper with every minute, and Ava felt like her legs would. giveaway for her body.
Melting under his touch and kisses, was all she could think about at this moment.
Breaking off the kiss, she pushed off him, staring deep into his eyes. He stared back, and she felt her heart thump in her chest.
“Have I told you how annoyingly beautiful you are?” He asked as he stared down, his hands firm on her waist.
“I think so,” Ava answered with a soft chuckle.
“Well, just in case I have not, this is me saying it, you are beautiful, annoyingly beautiful.” He said, his fingers trailing away from her waist.
Ava gasped when they brushed against her little, barely their bump.
He could feel her heart thump even faster against his chest.
“You should get back to work,” Ava said, pushing away from him.
“Or I should just stay here and kiss your fur a bit longer.” He said, holding her tighter and even closer.
Their lips met again and this time the kiss was slow, deliberate, and more subtle.
Lifting her off her feet, he slowly probed her into his arms and she held on.
The door opened in a swing and they both disconnected, not fast enough because the princess stood at the doorway.
“The director is asking for you,” she said, staring daggers at Ava.
“Uhg, I will be with him shortly.” alpha Damon said, turning to look at Ava.
“He says it’s time-sensitive.” The Princess said with urgency in her voice.
“Okay,” Alpha Damon said, walking away, but not before glancing at Ava with a smile.
The Princess stared at Ava evilly for a moment, and Ava would have been shaken if she was not who she was now.
Without a word, she turned and walked away, leaving Ava standing there to close the door behind herself.
Slamming the door shut, Ava turned and walked back to her seat, she continued with work, glancing at her wristwatch every few minutes.
Counting the hours and minutes until she left. Her back was already telling on her as it was.
