Chapter 20
The light rays of sun piercing through the curtains of the bedroom window hit on Princess face softly.
She blinked her eyes open, shielding her face with her hands as she turned her face to the other side of the bed in a bid to continue her sleep.
That was until the ringing of her phone woke her up.
She groaned as she finally got up, answering her phone.
She walked to the bathroom to wash her face as soon as she hung up the call.
She looked around the house and noticed that Damon had left for work as usual.
Princess walked into the kitchen to fix breakfast for herself.
She put on the coffee maker while she made some scrambled eggs with some bacon and sausages.
It was her go-to favourite food to eat for breakfast.
She sat down to eat as she planned her day.
She decided to go around the area as she figured sitting at home would not be the best idea.
She sat for a while before starting her day properly.
She started to fill the tub as she walked into the bathroom.
She slipped out of her clothes as she slowly settled inside the tub.
She exhaled as she let her mind travel.
She let the thoughts of high school wash over her.
How close her and Damon were, and now all of a sudden, it was like, he didn’t have her time anymore.
All he did was talk about this, Ava. She sounded familiar, but she could not quite place her head on where she knew that name from.
She walked out of the bathroom to the closet to look for what to wear.
She settled for a Jean and a black T-shirt, pairing it with white and black sneakers.
She put her hair up in a high ponytail with some lip gloss and headed out.
She walked around the neighbourhood, going around all the places that she enjoyed as a kid.
She arrived at the park that her, Damon, and the gang used to hang out at.
She remembered all the good memories that were made at the park.
She sat down, taking in the scene, the busyness of everywhere, how everywhere had changed and not changed at once.
She decided to take a stroll to her former high school.
After all, she didn’t have anything else to do.
She walked in, casually strolling through the hallway. It had been so long since she had been here. She visited their old hangout spot, where they all met for lunch and hung out even after school.
She’d lost track of time and when she noticed it was already evening.
She started heading back to Damons house to get started on dinner as he was going to get home soon.
She hoped that she wouldn’t hear any more stories of the Ava girl that night. She was genuinely tired of hearing it.
stopping by a store to get some of the things she’d use to cook and then continued on her way home.
On reaching home, she quickly took a shower before she headed to the kitchen to start cooking.
After about an hour, she heard Damon’s car pull into the driveway.
She was almost done cooking at that time, so she just started setting the table.
She went ahead to hug him as he walked into the house.
She took his bag and told him to take a shower as she was almost done with dinner.
He walked downstairs to see her already sitted at the dinner table.
She served him his plate as he settled into his seat.
And they talked about their day and work.
He told her everything that happened at the office that day, not forgetting to mention Ava.
Of course, it pissed Princess off, but there was nothing she could do about it.
She remembered when it was just both of them, there was no Ava in the picture.
He was all hers, and she had everything planned in her head.
Only if she hadn’t left then maybe he wouldn’t be so preoccupied with another girl that he couldn’t get out of his head.
She knew she had to see who the Ava was to know why and how Damon was so much into her.
She pushed the thought for a while and proceeded to tell him about her day. She was surprised she was able to, he had made plans so many times to visit their old high school too but he never had the time for it. He was also too occupied with work that he couldn’t get enough time for other things.
She tried to convince him that she wanted to follow him to the office because she was so tired of staying at home alone. Meanwhile her main plan was to see the woman that Damon always talked about and possible bully her into leaving him alone.
Damon didn’t think it was a good idea, it wasn’t any better than staying at home and there was nothing for her to do at the office and he didn’t want to bother her.
She gave the excuse of wanting to learn from him as she would soon become the leader of her own pack.
It took much convincing for him to finally agree.
She suggested they had a little outing that night
Since he almost never had time, she thought it was best for them to go out that night.
At first he complained he was too tired but then she bragged that he was only too scared that she was going to beat him.
There was only one place they could go that warranted her bragging like that.
“You know we’re not kids anymore. I’ll so win and rub it in your face.” He said with a smug all over his face.
He had been waiting so long for the moment when they would have their rematch.
They had always been competitive as kids and one way that they had used to show the best was the local arcade in the neighbourhood.
They were regulars when they were kids.
Most times that was their spot after school and they stayed till the store closed before they headed home.
That was they operated so their parents didn’t really panic and they always called the game store to confirm and sometimes didn’t need to because they were already sure.
“Let me see you try then,” she replied him with a glint of amusement in her eyes.
No matter how hard he tried when they were kids, he had never beat her.
Yes, he had come close but she always took the victory.
“Let’s make a deal first,” he proposed, letting out a small chuckle while thinking for a while.
The perfect idea slipped into his head immediately.
“If I win, I get your all glorious dodge.” He added. Stretching his hands to strike the deal.
She pursed her lips for a while, he was always after her very precious vintage model dodge.
Even when they were younger, he had made the same deal which made her almost loose it but thankfully she had won and it was still hers.
It wasn’t like he couldn’t get his own, but she had vowed to him when they were younger than no one apart from her could ride the car, which made Damon take interest in defying her vow and probably doing something wild in it.
“And if I win?” She asked back with her eyebrows raised.
“Anything you wish. I’m giving you a blank check.” He replied, smiling proudly like he had hit the jackpot.
He knew she wouldn’t be able to resist the offer. Little did she know, it was all his plan.
She shook his hands, sealing the deal.
“You didn’t say what you want.” He inquired, acting like he was concerned.
“Don’t worry. You’ll know once I win.” She smiled mischievously.
Damon had been practicing privately in a secret game room that was hidden in his closet. There was no one that knew about it apart from him and the person that built it.
He had become so good and had been waiting for Princess to come back to rematch her and gratefully she had brought it up so she would not suspect anything.
He sat at the living room as he waited for her to get ready.
His phone rang, it was Ava.
He was curious to why she calling as she had never called him even for work purposes. It was either she sent an email or she waited to see him the next day to say whatever she had to say.
He didn’t even know she had his number.
As he was about to pick up, Princess voice stopped him.
She made him promise that he wouldn’t take any calls that night.
She wanted him to loosen up and have fun that night, to forget about work and focus on himself.
She reminded him that all he had been doing was work and he deserved the break.
He agreed, put his phone on do not disturb and took her hands as they went on their way to the game store.
