Aiden’s pov
It’s feels like I’m racing against time. I can hear a clock ticking in my head but I know it’s just my imagination.
As I grow closer to the door, sweat bid on my skin. I looked down at my watch.
I have seconds left.
Tick tock.
Tick tock.
Was that my heart on the verge of collapsing?
Dammit.
I have to make it.
Out of breath, I touched the door handle and rang the buzzer. I looked down at my watch. Three seconds left.
The door opens quickly, her face coming into my vision. I staggered back as a smile rears on her face.
It’s not because of her overly sweet smile that shocked me speechless. It was her hair color, her eye color and the fucking dress she had the audacity to put on her.
She was impersonating Sophie.
I want to vomit.
Had Lillian really gone this mad? Why were her father and brother not trying to help her instead of actually doing her bid ding?
Right.
Because they were all fucking sick.
“Honey, you’re home!” She sang and wrap her arms around
me.
I froze, my hands itching to push her away but I knew that it wouldn’t be the best option.
So instead, I left my hand limp at my sides and faked a happy voice. “Yes baby. You look beautiful.” I gritted through clenched teeth and forced out a smile when she pulled away and looked up at me.
Her smile widened. ” I dressed up all for you. Do you like my dress? Found it in my closet. Kind of fit me a little loose, but maybe because a pig stretched it out.”
I gritted my teeth. I’m going to make that bitch pay for referring to my Sophie as a pig.
“Where’s Ashton?” I asked, leaving the smile on my face despite how much it fucking hurt to keep it up.
She pulled away from me. ” Come in Aiden. I’m just finishing up platting our lunch. Ashton is inside with his babysitter.”
Babysitter?
I followed Lillian inside, closing the door after I inspected in-side. It looked like nothing changed after I left. And I was surprised to not see men guarding the door for Lillian.
Did her father and brother come up with such a good plan that they knew I wouldn’t hurt Lillian? They left her with no protec-tion…. they were cocky about their plan. A bit too cocky.
Lillian sighed loudly, as if the mere mention of Ashton was irritating her. She sat down around the table and motioned for me to take a seat.
“Sit down and I’ll bring him over. Seeing that you’re so impa-tient. ” She rolled her eyes.
I strolled over to the chair, looking down at my watch every once in a while. Five minutes have passed since I was here. I was certain that the cops were on their way to Sophie right nOW.
flooked up from the watch and smiled at Lillian. I had to stall her as best as I could. She needed to think that she was win-ning. That they were winning.
“You really do look beautiful Lillian.” I tilted my head and studied her. That blue dress that belonged to Soph that she had on didn’t suit her complexion and kind of made her look ashy.
Or perhaps Lillian was sick, not only mentally but physically
too.
She blushed. “Oh stop it baby. No time for flattery.”
I wanted to roll my eyes but refrain. This woman was senile enough to not know sarcasm even though my tone was dripping with it heavily.
I fixed myself on the chair and grinned at her. “Now baby.
Don’t forget you said you’d bring out Ash. It’s only right if he eats with us.
She nods. “You’re right. Our son should join us.”
Her gaze sweep to the hallway. ” Heather, bring Ashton over.”
A few seconds later a terrified older woman came walking over with Ash in her hands. She was trembling badly. I was just hap py that my son looked unharmed.
I let out a relieved breath and opened my arms for the woman to pass Ash over to me. But Lillian stopped her.
“Wait. Don’t you think that Ashton should sit with his mom-my?”
I stiffen, and couldn’t help but look at her in disgust. Was she really referring to herself as my son’s mother?
I shook my head inwardly.
This is my fault for giving that whore the time of day. Now look how things turned out.
The older woman looked between the both of us unsurely.
I schooled my features quickly before Lillian could see the disgusted look painted on my face.
“But I miss him baby. I miss you more of course. But I want to hold him. Beside he can be a messy eater, he’ll dirty your beautiful dress. I’m sure you wouldn’t want it ruined right?” My heart stutters the longer she took to respond.
“You’re right. Give him to Aiden. Besides, the only way this dress will be ruined is when you rip it off my body tonight ba-by.” She giggled.
