As soon as Ashley left, I struggled to get my EpiPen from my drawer. True to her word, I began to feel better. I cleaned out everywhere in my office and texted Rolan that we were set.
Ashley and I had been devastated when we found out the truth that our mother was hiding. She was a sick, cold murderer who didn’t care what she had to do to get her way.
When Rolan had sent us the details and advised us to pick his side as we had saved his wife’s life. I agreed and forced Ashley to.
I rushed over to the hospital to meet Rolan, he was in a corner of the room while I waited with Ashley for our mother to enter the room. It felt awful that we had to resort to this.
“You are okay?” Ashley asked me, her bags were all packed, and she was ready to leave for fear that her emotions might not let her see through the plan they had set in motion.
“Yeah. I am. Are you? You seem a little pale?” I asked her and she just shrugged her shoulders.
“Do you really think mom has been drugging us? She seemed so nice and sacrificial.” Ashley said.
“The evidence is there. We have also been suspecting this for years. This is just proof that we were right all along.” I said and scoffed.
“I don’t want you to go to jail. Is there no other way? I can’t be alone please!” Ashley cried, but the stone had been set rolling. Even now I couldn’t stop.
“Don’t be like that Ash. We have spoken about this. I will be out in a few years. I killed someone, that’s a great offense. I can’t just walk out of here with a clear conscience if I don’t get my end of justice. The CCTV footage was the only thing that confirmed it for me. She’s a psycho, Ashley. If she had her way, she would hurt us so badly next. I know it’s not easy, but you have to try. I will too.” I assured her and patted her back gently.
“Wilson,” she cried.
“Don’t worry, my angel. Pandora and Rolan will take good care of you.” I consoled and held her close to my chest.
Ashley had been my biggest fear, knowing mother well, I knew she would try to take advantage of Ashley’s pain to get her to do her bidding. I turned out not to be wrong because she had tried to emotionally manipulate Ashley into hurting me, her son.
My informants had told me that my mom was beginning to suspect that I knew something. The day she had purchased the weed and the poison to paralyze me, I had been informed. I was quite shocked, never had I imagined that it would go that far.
“But, I want you. Oh brother please, don’t give yourself up. What about the pack? Who is going to look after everyone?” She cried and clung to my shirt desperately.
My eyes watered, but I blinked back the tears furiously. Ashley must not see me as weak if she would have the strength to go through with this.
“She’s coming Alpha!” Our lookout informed us and walked briskly away.
“Get in position. She’s here. Are you ready?” Rolan asked us and walked back to the shadows.
“I guess so,” I said and led Ashley to sit.
The door opened, and my mom rushed in, looking agitated. It felt good to watch the horror seep into her face as she recognized that her plan had failed.
“Why?” I asked, and she backed away from the room, rushing to the door to see if she could escape.
Of course, the door was securely locked. I had a lot of questions to ask her, some of them, I hoped that she was truly not guilty.
“Hello, Mrs. Edna. Must be a surprise to see me here?” Rolan said and gave a throaty laugh.
“Wilson? Ashley? What is going on here? What have you done? Did they tell you that I did anything? They are all liars! I am not mad. They made me mad. Don’t believe anything they tell you, I am innocent!” She wailed and threw herself dramatically on the floor.
Once upon a time, if she had done that I would have broken the entire world to bring the person who hurt her to justice.
“We loved you, Mom, why were you feeding us bipolar pills and lying to us? All of these years? You kept us away from everyone else just for your selfish interests. This isn’t fair. You emotionally manipulated us. You even killed father! How could you?” Ashley cried bitterly.
“It was not me. I did not do anything. I swear to you “she lied, shivering as the crocodile tears ran down her face.
“What about the real content of the poisoned weed you gave Ashley to feed me with? I didn’t do anything to your mother, yet you wanted to hurt me. We know you are a good person, but you really do need medical help. Let us help you.” I begged her and moved close to her.
Once I was close enough, I brought out the needle that Rolan had prepared, injecting it into her neck and emptying its contents.
“What have you done to me?” She cried and staggered backward.
“Are you sure you both are ready for this?” Rolan asked us and we shook our heads.
“Does the truth serum really work?” Ashley asked me.
“Well, we are about to find out,” I said and pulled Mom into a chair.
“Did you kill our father?” I asked her, hoping and praying silently to the moon goddess that the answer didn’t come out in the affirmative.
“Yes. He needed to go, he didn’t want me anymore. Did he tell you that he was seeing someone else? A young medical doctor. He betrayed me first!” She yelled like a mad woman.
“Mom! The young doctor was the one taking care of you. She was never a competition.” Ashley yelled.
“I killed my parents too.”
By the time she was done talking, Ashley and I were weeping like children.
What did we ever do to deserve this? I thought to myself.
