As I watched Ashley walking briskly towards me, I knew she had gotten what I needed. If Wilson changed the management of the whole hospital, my whole secret might just be laid out in the open.
Truth is, I never considered the possibility of getting caught in everything that I had done. No one really cared so much to go through my records because it was right there that I was unfit to stay around people.
My psychosis was diagnosed when I was eight years old and soon, another specialist diagnosed me with bipolar disorder.
It didn’t make so much sense to me until I saw my parents start to treat me differently one day, they came home with chains and had me bound to the bed for several months.
When I managed to escape, I ran into the hands of my husband who married me and took me off the streets. He traced me down to my father’s house and told them to let him marry me as he would take care of me. They did not even hesitate, I mean, he was a total stranger to them, and they would just let me go with him because the doctor said I had bipolar disorder.
My parents had died in a fire incident shortly after I left the house, followed by one of the doctors getting slaughtered on his way home from work and the other drowning in the icy cold lake that was behind his house.
No one had suspected me, of course, I was out of the pack by then. Or so they thought.
When my husband found out about what I had done, he began to distance himself from me. Everyone around me, the people that I loved that were supposed to have taken care of me didn’t and now the only one I had left was already trying to leave me.
He had even started seeing another woman. It was too much for my heart to bear, so I started feeding him part of my prescription. It didn’t take long for him to lose his mind.
“Mom!” I heard Ashley’s voice and the snap of her fingers in between my eyes. It jolted me out of my thoughts.
“Oh, I didn’t see you there,” I said and adjusted my blouse.
“I got it. Wilson was so weak, I feel really bad about what we have done to him, it just feels like it is not fair. What exactly do you want the management of the hospital to stay the same for? This place needs to branch out so it is able to do more. Changing those old board members would be the best.” She asked me, her eyes looking sad and distant.
“Ashley, you have done what I have asked you well. Leave for Alpha Rolan’s pack now. I will handle Wilson when he gets well. Go now. Make sure you get your hands on Rolan, even if not totally, just enough to make him get you pregnant. The drugs I gave you are very potent and would do a wonderful job. Adhere to my instructions, and soon you will have that that your soul desires.” I assured her, trying to assuage her doubts.
“Are you sure about this, mom?” She asked me, her face undecided on whether she should feel guilty about what she had done or not.
“Don’t think too much about it Ashley. Be on your way. You have barely three hours for the drugs to lose their potency on Wilson. He will not like to see you when he is fine.” I said and pushed her out of my office door.
The joy in my heart could not be contained. I looked through the peephole and saw that she was out of the hospital. Clicking on my laptop and inserting the flash drive that Ashley had brought me, I saw the full details of all the investigations that had been done. I know that due to the matter of confidentiality and the fact that I was the one involved, the document had remained untouched by any other person besides Wilson.
We had an argument, and he had clarified that he was going to expose me. Getting rid of Ashley would have been harder because, unlike Wilson, she was squire-friendly with members of the pack and hardly ever went anywhere.
Wilson was not going to get better, the drug that I had laced the weed with was going to make him a vegetable for the rest of his life.
That way, I am sure that he will never leave me, and he will always need me around. Someday, I knew that everyone was going to grow to love me because I was doing this for every one of them.
I calculated the time in my head and expected that any moment from now, someone would have found my son and rushed him down to the hospital. If Ashley did her job well, he shouldn’t be able to speak to anyone.
A knock sounded on my door, and before I could say come in, the door opened and one of the attendants busted in.
“Luna, the Alpha has been poisoned. He can’t speak and is seemingly totally paralyzed. The Chief asked me to call for you. They are in the theater. Hurry!” She said and rushed out again, barely giving me time to execute the perfect sadness that I had rehearsed over a hundred times in my room.
I jumped up and ran out, pretending to follow the attendant blindly. He directed me to the theater and when I rushed in, I was surprised to see Wilson and Ashley seated, both of them doing absolutely fine.
“Why?” Wilson asked me and I felt like someone had drenched me with cold water. It didn’t take long for me to realize what was happening when I saw Rolan walking from a dark corner of the room into the light.
“Hello, Mrs. Edna. Must be a surprise to see me!” He teased and gave a throaty laugh.
