I hurried to Pandora’s room, last night was one I knew was important for her and Rolan to have, so I let them be. As soon as I heard the door of her room open, I knew that Rolan had gone to the councilmen meeting.
“Pandora!” I yelled at the door, and she squealed delightedly inside the room.
“Kiara! You better come in here girl. I have missed you so much.” She said, and I rushed inside the room without hesitation.
We hugged for a long while, trying to control our emotions so we didn’t cry and failed miserably at that.
“I have missed you so much, Kiara. I didn’t even remember, and I feel so bad that you had to go through all of those emotions.” She cried.
“It’s fine Pandy. It could have gone another way, and you won’t even be here now. I’m just glad that you are back.” I said, patting her back gently.
“How have you been? Rolan mentioned Eric stalking you still. What does he want?” She asked me as soon as we settled down.
“Well, this is not so relevant. I will sort him out later. I don’t know what the bastard wants, but I know his hands are no longer clean. He feels different, unlike the innocent young man I knew a few months ago. He has this dark aura around him, and I can’t seem to reach him anymore. I fear our mate bond has been totally severed.” I explained and shook my head sadly. Eric and I could have had a perfect little life.
“He lost, Kiara. He lost. You are a beautiful, smart woman who believes in handwork, he was lucky to have ever caught your attention.” She assured me and squeezed my hands gently.
“Back to you, what has been happening? What happened? How did you get to the other side of the boundary fence?” I bombarded her with all the questions that I had been itching to hear the answers to.
“Well, I remember falling in a ditch after escaping from Uncle Joe. Wilson saved me and took me to his pack. His mom, Mrs. Edna is a medical doctor so she took care of me until I was fully recovered. Ashley is his sister, she is the nicest soul. She will be joining us by tomorrow at the technical institute here at our pack. I am actually excited for her to come. Maybe I could reciprocate a little out of the kindness she and her family showed me.” She said, her eyes tearing up again.
“You must have been through so much. Waking up and not knowing what life you had before then. Rolan took you away swiftly, though. Thank God he did, if not that you both had explained, I was here to have his head broken.” I threatened playfully and we both laughed.
“Quit playing.” She said, and her eyes widened suddenly like she had remembered something.
“What is it? Why is your face like that?” I asked her, my voice filled with worry and concern since she was just returning home.
“Ashely. She has a crazy crush on Rolan. Oh, shit! How could I have forgotten? One of the days when I had passed out in the hospital, she had met Rolan at the boundary fence. Mentioned something about him inviting her and had even taught her a few tricks on how to capture his heart. I didn’t know she was talking about my man.” She explained, and I sat down shocked at what she had just said.
“Ashley has a crush on your husband, and you are letting her come here? Are you sure that is a good idea because I doubt that it is?” I noted my concerns to her.
“No. Ashley is not like that. I will have a conversation with her about it next week. Give her enough time to settle in and get used to the environment.” She said casually and opened the bottle of orange juice in front of her.
“Want some? Fellow preggo?” She teased and laughed. I tried to laugh, but it got stuck in my throat and came off as me choking instead.
“Are you okay?” She asked, handing me a glass of orange juice.
“Thank you” I cleared my throat and took the cup from her.
I swallowed its contents, finding it hard to explain the sudden fear that I was feeling. Something was going to go terribly wrong and I could sense it.
“What if she still wants your husband? Are you able to share since you like her so much and think that she has your best interests at heart?” I sneered at her, wondering why she wasn’t seeing the risk that came with having her so close to Rolan.
“Ashely would never do such a thing. I suspected that Wilson had a crush on me, but he never said anything and was mean to me whenever I saw through his feelings. Never really understood why I could not fall in love with him until I regained my memory. I really love Rolan and even if Ashley decides to betray me, my husband will not.” She said confidently and for one brief moment, I stared intently at her, hoping that she changed her mind.
“Really? You trust her that much even though you both just met?” I asked, slightly jealous because I was used to being the only person that Pandora trusted.
“Don’t be like that Kiara. You are my sister and I would always listen to you. Ashley is like my baby sister and I really know what her coming to this institute would do for her and the pack. She is really talented.” Pandora vouched for her, I struggled to push back the dread I felt at the thought of Ashley coming down to the palace.
“Don’t worry so much about me, Kiara. Now let’s talk about pregnancy. How has it been for you girl? My waist is killing me now?” She said and we laughed.
It was funny how we were young, naive virgins less than a year ago, and now, we were expecting little ones. Life indeed is a process, and I am glad to share this experience with my best friend.
