I have been waiting for Alpha Rolan and Griffin for quite a while. I had already zeroed my mind on them coming tonight when I saw a headlight at a distance.
The car turned into my compound, and both of them exited the car in a haste.
“He knows!” Griffin announced happily.
Alpha Rolan had a mild smile on his face and I could tell that he was dying to hear what lead I had found out in the missing Luna’s case.
“What?” I asked, trying not to interpret his words to mean something else.
“We did a DNA test yesterday. We are really siblings. I guess I never really believed it myself until today.” Griffin exclaimed excitedly.
“Oh, that’s nice. Congratulations to both of you then. Come inside.” I said and shook hands with the Alpha briefly before they entered.
When they had sat down, I offered them a bottle of wine and Rolan refused but opted for a beer instead. Griffin also asked for the same thing and I could see how happy he was to be reunited with someone that he admired so much all his life.
The Alpha was Griffin’s little hero, as he had always looked out for him. It was no surprise that Griffin chose to stay back in the pack and work closely with him.
I shook myself and yanked open the fridge to bring out three cans of beer and a plate of fried snacks. I barely had anything else in the house that I could serve to guests, so this would have to do.
Alpha Rolan cracked open his beer and drank it all in one swig.
“Alpha, take it slowly.” I cautioned him.
“What did you have us over here for?” The Alpha asked me, his tone firm and his voice hard.
I swallowed a large gulp of my saliva and sat down opposite the two men. Griffin did not touch his beer.
“I went to the pack to deliver the letter to her. I am not sure, but I think I caught a whiff of the missing Luna’s scent. It was in their palace and also on the body of the young Princess, Ashley. I fear that she might have a big crush on the Alpha which could have been a motive for her to kidnap the Luna. She has accepted your invitation and will come down to our pack by next week, on Wednesday precisely.” I informed the two men who had their whole attention on me.
“Are you sure it was the Luna’s scent?” Griffin asked me, I could see the doubt in their eyes.
I knew that Alpha Rolan could not handle any more disappointments in the search for his mate. He was miserable already, and I would hate to do anything that would compound it for him.
“I’m quite sure. I smelt it on Ashley.” I reiterated because, even though I was unsure of the house, the scent of the missing Luna was heavy on Ashley.
My mind slipped a beat, thinking of Ashley and her beautiful face was distracting me. I felt like I should tell the two men that the young lady in question was actually my mate. They had trusted me with the life of someone they love, so it would be unfair on my part if I hid anything from them.
“There’s also something else that I have to tell both of you,” I announced and cleared my throat deeply, the weight of the words that I was about to speak clogging my throat and airways.
I took a sip of my beer and noticed that Alpha Rolan had barely said anything since I had informed them that I had scented the Luna.
“Ashley is my mate. I found out when I went to deliver the letter from the king.” I blurted out and watched the shock crawl into the two men’s eyes.
“But, I thought you said that you are suspecting that she has a crush on the Alpha… Sorry, a crush on my brother.” Griffin said, his eyes focusing intently on me. I felt exposed and naked under the close perusal of the two men.
“Yes. We kissed and all…”
“You kissed the woman you suspect is responsible for capturing my mate?” Alpha Rolan barked.
“Are you sure you will be competent enough to carry out your responsibilities to your Alpha and your pack?” He bellowed at me when I did not reply to his previous question.
“Look, Alpha, I am still very focused. I have never let pleasure get in the way of my business, or business in the way of my pleasure. You gave me a job to do, and I am doing just that. I met my mate who happened to be one of the new prime suspects in this case and I have done my bidding by being honest with you about it. Even though we had kissed and all, she had made it clear to me that she had eyes for just one person. She was really excited when I told her that she had a letter from the king of the wolf kingdom.” I explained, slightly hurt that Alpha Rolan had not even considered my feelings, and he had also challenged my proficiency at doing my job.
“Alpha, please calm down. I know this is a lot for you to bear right now but Caleb is doing the right thing by being honest with us about this.” Griffin explained and the Alpha calmed down a bit.
He took several deep breaths and opened the beer that was for Griffin.
“Alpha, that is enough alcohol for tonight.” Griffin cautioned and even though I had expected the Alpha to flip out, he simply downed the entire can and crushed it with his palm.
“Griffin, I need you to follow up on these events closely. I don’t want anyone who is blinded by his emotions to do a sloppy job. If you eventually find her in their company, I want you to have all of them killed. No questions asked.” He ordered.
“What if they are not holding her hostage but keeping her safe?” I dared to chip in and Griffin gave me a look that I had made a big mistake asking that question.
Alpha Rolan did not reply to what I said, he simply stormed out of the house followed closely by Griffin.
I sank heavily into my sofa.
“This is going to be a lot harder than I imagined, ” I sighed sadly and downed the contents of my beer can.
