Chapter 66: Caleb’s POV

Book:Her Alpha's Rejected Mate Published:2024-11-25

The Alpha had been flustered, and I could see the great deal of courage it took for him to talk about what was wrong.
Griffin had called me aside earlier and told me that the Alpha would need my help if he were willing to talk about it.
It had not taken so much for Griffin to convince him which meant that he trusted Griffin a lot. I didn’t even know where to really go and even after I saw the warehouse and the ditch, it just seemed to me that she had simply disappeared into thin air.
I checked the ditch and closed my eyes. The Alpha had given me the Luna’s clothes, so I could pick her scent. I drew in a deep breath to see if I could pick up any scent. I didn’t, so I got inside the ditch and took another breath.
An unfamiliar scent wafted into my nose, I could sense the disturbance of its wolf and even though I tried harder to see if I could get more details, nothing else came. My head did not let go of the memory of the scent.
“Everything okay down there, Caleb?” Griffin’s voice echoed down the deep ditch.
“Everything is fine. I could not get anything.” I lied to him, unsure of why I did that.
“Alright. Are you coming out now, or do you love the coziness of the ditch?” He teased me and I smiled.
I have always had successful missions with Griffin. Rolan was a kind and ruthlessly extreme leader, his father never sent him on any mission with us unless he required a ruthless solution to the problem we had to combat.
It was quite surprising that it was his uncle who decided to offend him because I was too sure that no one in their right mind would touch something that has Rolan’s print all over it.
I pulled out the picture of the Luna from my back pocket and looked at it. She was a beauty to behold, her skin was fair and her body slim with the right proportions.
I stared at her eyes and saw the coldness in them. I was sure of one thing, whoever had her did not get her without a fight. Her eyes looked fearless and reckless. I could not wait to finally get to meet her and bring her back with me to the palace.
When I got out of the ditch, I clapped my hands lightly together to get the sand particles it had picked up when I was climbing out.
“Just like magic, right? We were unable to get a single clue after this. No matter how we tried in the last few weeks, all of our clues had met a dead end because we did not know what to do from here.” Griffin said and I simply nodded my head.
Rolan’s father had brought Griffin to the palace so many years ago. He was a tough boy and never showed any sign of emotions.
The queen had treated him the worst until one day she had gone to bed and not woken up. Griffin still had not shown any emotions and I feared that his heart was a lot darker than anything that I was yet to understand.
I had found something out later when we lived together briefly, it was a picture and when I saw it, everything else began to make sense to me.
“Have you spoken to him about it yet, Griffin?” I asked him, my mind drifting slowly from the missing Luna.
“Spoken to who about what?” He asked me, and I noticed that he was struggling to feign ignorance.
“Griffin, you know very well what I am speaking about,” I replied and began walking away. He followed suit but did not say anything.
“You shouldn’t let Alpha Rolan find out from anyone else about that. His parents are dead so the right person for them to find out from would be you. You know him, he will not spare anyone.” I cautioned him and entered the warehouse.
It was simply a long empty building and the scent of Uncle Joe and some other wolves that I had interacted with wafted into my nose.
All of these scents were not unfamiliar at all, but then, another unfamiliar scent, a bit stronger than the one I had encountered at the ditch, wafted into my nose. This scent was distinct, and it refused to leave my head, no matter how hard I tried.
Griffin saw the look on my face and his eyes became interested.
“Smelt it right?” He asked, referring to the scents.
“So why did you not do anything about it?” I asked him.
“Well, I trailed the scent a few times, but this wolf is not the only one that has a disturbed wolf. One was an old woman and the other a young girl. I scented it another time, but it was not from a wolf that had stepped his foot into the pack. He stays at the other side of the boundary fence.” Griffin explained to me.
“How are you so sure that the Wolf from the other side of the boundary fence has not stepped his foot here?” I asked him, wondering why he thought that was a reason to dislodge a suspect.
“Alpha Wilson is a lone wolf, he does not look for trouble or involve himself in anything that concerns another person. He is a peaceful Alpha, Caleb.” He said.
“You know that’s a sign of psychopathy. I would take him straight to the top of my list. We do not have to accuse him of anything. Just a small conversation about it will do.” I said and smiled.
Griffin shook his head at me and smiled too.
“I feel for the poor old woman and the little girl too. I’m sure you would want to talk to them again. Probably traumatize them? Scar them for life?” He teased me and we both laughed.
“I can assure you, it will be nothing like that,” I said and we both walked out of the warehouse, changing into our wolves and running through the forest back to the palace.
