The only thing I had remembered in recent times was just my name and a certain mate of mine called Derrick. No matter how hard I tried to remember more, nothing else seemed to be coming, and such attempts were usually met with life-staggering pain in my head.
Mrs. Edna had advised me to stop and even though it was hard, I had to listen to her.
I moved into my new apartment yesterday, and I was already looking forward to the new life that I hoped to settle in. I still felt the hollow feeling of loss occasionally.
No matter how hard I tried to get rid of that feeling, it simply just refused to go. I had stopped bothering about that and hoped that someday I would understand why I felt that way.
Every time I tried to connect with my wolf, it was almost like there was a brick wall that was hindering my connection to her. I longed to be here and spend time with her but even my attempts to change into my wolf have been met with disappointing outcomes.
A knock came on my door and I jumped. I was not expecting anyone and if any of the people I knew here wanted to come to my place, they would have called me first. I was surprised to see Wilson at the door when I opened it.
“Hello, Wilson. What a pleasant surprise. I was not expecting to see you.” I said, and he smiled calmly at me. I wondered why he was not going out with any of the young girls around who would not stop throwing themselves at him. He practically ignores all of them and acts like they do not exist whenever he is around them.
At first, people thought that I was his wife, and I was even carrying his child. I always corrected such thoughts, even though he never seemed too happy about my insistence on correcting the wrong image that they had.
“Not happy to see me?” He said and handed me a basket of scented candles and some sweets.
“I said it was a pleasant surprise. Come inside please.” I invited him in with a face full of smiles.
I guess that I did not realize how much I missed having them around until now. Mrs. Edna and Ashley had promised to come today, but they canceled because Mrs. Edna had an emergency to take care of at the hospital and Ashley had work.
“Is it because your mom and your sister could not make it down here today that you came?” I asked him, knowing fully well that he always avoided anything that had to do with him dealing with me directly. I also stopped being in his face and avoided all contact with him unless necessary.
“The whole place is beginning to come together. I did not realize all it needed to be perfect was someone more perfect than it was.” He said, and I almost washed my ears to be sure that I was not hearing wrongly.
Wilson, although nice to me, has never said anything nice enough to qualify as a compliment when it comes to me.
“Did you just call me perfect? Do you realize that that was a compliment?” I asked him, too shocked to even say anything else.
He looked at me briefly before avoiding my eyes.
“It is not a big deal. I am just stating a fact. Don’t let it get into your head.” He shrugged, trying so hard to sound nonchalant in his tone.
I smiled at him and made up my mind not to make his visit any more uncomfortable for him than he already was. I am sure that if his mom or sister had not forced him to come, he would not have.
“Still, it is one of your nicest acts to me, right next to you saving my life,” I chuckled. He smiled at me and sank into my sofa.
“Really comfortable.” He commented.
“You bought everything here, Wilson. Ashley told me. I am deeply grateful. I do not take you and your family’s actions of kindness to me for granted. I hope someday soon, I am able to repay you all for how nice you have been to me.” I thanked him and walked to my new kitchen to make him a cup of green tea.
It was his favorite drink back at the house and when I tasted it one day, I immediately fell in love with it.
He had, since then, made me a cup every morning for the two weeks I stayed at his family house after I was discharged from the hospital.
It was even more thoughtful of him to have gotten me my bag of green tea alongside a matching mug when he was shopping for my apartment.
Everything was to my taste and exactly how I would have wanted it if I had done the interior decorations myself. I finished making the tea and handed it over to him.
“Thank you.” He said and took a sip from the cup before setting it down on the table beside him.
“How did your day go?” I asked, hoping to make small talk, and hopefully, we become close friends.
He did not reply, instead, he had his eyes fixed on mine for the longest time ever.
“Is there a problem?” I asked him and when he did not reply, I wiped my mouth, thinking that he was looking at something weird on my face.
“You are so beautiful, Pandora.” He said to me, I smiled at his compliment and his calling my name struck an idea in me.
“Wilson, do you think if you put out a word that you had found a certain pregnant woman called Pandora, you think word would get out fast enough, and maybe I could find out what was happening in my old life?” I asked him thoughtfully and was very surprised at the tone at which he replied to me.
“He rejected you, Pandora. While you were pregnant and left you in a ditch to die. You are better off not looking for that bastard, and I am surprised you are even bothered about the life you used to have.” He said and stood up to leave.
The way he left was surprising, it was almost like he had something to hide. He had never acted this way about me wanting to find my home before.
