After I returned to the palace with Caleb. We immediately went to look for Alpha Rolan. I wanted to go in first as I knew that Rolan trusted me a lot more than he did Caleb.
It was one of the reasons why I could not tell him the truth. It would break him. It was not my fault that I hid this truth from him. Everyone who knew about it had told me it was never to be heard by another person.
If not for the picture that Caleb had seen, he would never have known. I forced him to swear an oath of secrecy. Although he has never stopped telling me the importance of Rolan knowing. I understood his point, but I did not know how Rolan would take it.
I knocked on the door twice and waited for a response.
“Come in, Griffin” I heard him answer.
I eased the door open and saw that Rolan was seated, flipping through some documents on his office table. Seeing that he was stable enough to receive guests, I beckoned on Caleb, and we stepped into his office together.
He looked at the two of us expectantly but tried to mask it so he was not too hopeful. My heart broke for him. I had watched him wither from being one of the strongest kings ever to a long drunk who could be sneaked on.
I missed the old Rolan and I swore silently that I was going to do everything within my powers to make sure that the Luna and her babies return.
“Welcome Gentlemen.” He said calmly, and we bowed in respect before he motioned for us to sit and we did.
“Alpha, we have gone over all that we have before. We are chasing a new lead now.” I said, opening the conversation and looking at Caleb to give more details.
“Alpha, I am extending my search to the other side of the boundary fence and I will also be interrogating the Alpha of Red Moon Park, Alpha Wilson,” Caleb informed him and I saw his eyes darkening with interest.
“Alpha? That name does something right?” Caleb asked him, he had also noticed the change in the king’s aura.
“I met him thrice, thought his scent was familiar, but his wolf seemed disturbed. I met his sister too. She is quite knowledgeable about machinery and technology. I invited her to study with our team.” He replied thoughtfully and looked at the two of us like we were supposed to come up with something. My head went blank but Caleb spoke.
“In that case Alpha, I have an idea. It has to stay between the three of us.” Caleb said, and we drew closer to him to hear him well and also show him that no one was going to jeopardize the safety of the Luna.
“We are listening.” Alpha Rolan said.
“I would naturally keep this information between my team members and I. I also do not want them to know. That is how much I want this kept between the three of us. You will invite the sister. Send them a letter. He will come along, and I will be able to read him properly. Once this is done. I will tell you the next step. I need to be certain it is the same scent before I react.” Caleb explained and Alpha Rolan nodded his head.
“That is a very smart decision. I will have my secretary send her an invitation immediately. Griffin, see to it that she receives the invite and agrees to it.” He ordered and we both nodded our heads in agreement.
“I will do that immediately,” I replied but Caleb cut us short again.
“Griffin, do you mind if I take the letter there myself? Just to see how things are. The secretary is another person involved in it and who knows, if it is something that would be hindering the success of our investigations. I will prepare the letter, all you would have to do Alpha is to append your signature to it.” Caleb noted.
“Alright, Caleb. You can handle that, but I want Griffin to go with you every step of the way. He is my eyes and ears, I would be a lot more comfortable if he were to be with you closely in all of this.” Alpha Rolan said and that twisting feeling that usually comes whenever he showed me that he trusted me so much came gnawing at my chest again.
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat and the anxiety made me sweat profusely even though the weather was not so hot.
“Are you okay, Griffin? You seem quite uncomfortable. You would rather not be a part of it? ” He immediately asked me, that was how quick he was to notice even the slightest things about me.
“Oh, I’m fine. Just a bit anxious.” I answered quietly.
“Griffin, I’ve seen you wring a man’s head from his neck. Don’t be like this now.” Caleb teased and slapped the back of my head playfully.
Even though I heard the laughter from Rolan, his eyes were a bit shut off and cold. I knew he was not buying what I said nor would he disregard what he felt because of the joke that Caleb had made.
“Alright, Caleb. I think that would be all.” Alpha Rolan said in a bid to dismiss Caleb.
“Okay, Alpha. I’ll see you later Griffin.” Caleb said and shook hands with me briefly before leaving the office.
As soon as the door closed, Rolan stood up and closed the blinds.
“Now, you can tell me what is wrong.” He said as soon as he sat down.
“Oh, noth…” I began to say.
“Just say it. Is it about Alpha Wilson? I noticed that you were not comfortable when he came around with his sister to pay courtesy to me. Is there something that I should know?” He asked me.
The weight of the secret I carried threatened to break me down right there. It was now or never, I had lied to him for over 20 years, and it was time I told him the truth.
“There’s something that I have been hiding from you Rolan. It’s about me and your family.”
