I woke up with a start. I was having one of the worst nightmares in my life where mom was trying to kill me by feeding me drugs.
I also saw my dad in the dream, and he was asking me to be wary of mom. I was really tired of how sick I was, I feared standing up and going outside for fear of what I might do to another innocent person.
My mind did not stop reminding me that it could have been a family member, I do not know how I would live with myself if I found out that I had hurt my mom or even Ashley.
“What of Preggo?” My subconscious questioned me.
I knew that looking at her getting excited over another man triggered my crisis.
It did not matter to me that the man in question was my sister’s crush and Preggo was pregnant from a life she cannot remember.
I felt that something was wrong with all these things happening. I heard hushed whispers behind my door and knew that it was my mom and Ashley. I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep, waiting for the lock to turn.
Soon enough, the lock turned slowly and my mother’s scent mixed with Ashley’s hit my nose. I stirred, pretending to just be waking up from sleep.
“Hey, Wilson.” Ashley’s quiet voice floated into my ears.
“Hey Ash” I replied and pretended to still be drowsy.
“Wilson, get up. We need to talk.” My mom ordered. I sat up immediately and rubbed my eyes to give it that redness you get after waking up.
“Hey Mom” I answered casually, wondering what she was going to say since I had snapped her closest maid’s neck in front of her.
“We need to discuss what else we can do about Kirsten. You know she only has her blind grandmother, who has sent three people to ask her why she has not been home since yesterday. We have to come up with a believable plot, if not, we are doomed!” My mom said, her face filled with worry.
“Kirsten’s grandmother is blind right?” Ashley asked.
“Yes?” Mom answered her with a raised eyebrow.
“Well, this should be easy. It used to be just Kirsten and her grandmother. We can easily get someone to replace Kirsten and do whatever she does for her grandmother. Her voice just has to look similar or not, she can easily say she has a cold or something hot burnt her throat while she was eating.” Ashley suggested, and I was about to nod in agreement when my mom cut in.
“I don’t think so. It is too risky to leave any loose ends. I propose that we have someone take out the grandmother. That way, no questions will be asked. I can mask it up properly by saying that they both relocated to a neighboring pack. Nothing to be traced back to us.” She proposed and my mouth fell open.
I turned to look at Ashley and saw the shock on her face. As if controlled by some force, she also chose that same time to look at me, her mouth slightly opened.
“What? Why are you both looking at me like I am the crazy one? I am only trying to keep you both safe. Do you think people will look at you the same way if they found out that you both are crazy?” She snarled angrily at both of us when she saw the shocked expression on our faces.
“Mom, I already killed one person. I feel so bad about it already, I do not think that I will be able to stomach it anymore.” I said and the grief and hurt filled my heart. I wished so badly that I had not hurt any other person.
“And so?” She asked, and I got more confused as this was not the mother I was accustomed to.
She usually has episodes of emotional outbursts that she usually blames on the stress of taking care of crazy people. It had always hurt Ashley and me whenever she called us that.
“Mom, are you suggesting that we do more crime to cover up what Wilson did?” Ashley asked.
“So covering up the crime is not a bad thing but bringing up a way that is most sure in assuring your brother’s safety and the safety of the title. I am now the worst person to ever walk on the face of the earth, right?” She asked, and Ashley kept her mouth closed.
“I am sorry to have caused all this. Honestly, I would never have jeopardized all of our safety. I did not know she was in your office Mom. And I did try. I really did try to avoid what happened yesterday. I just don’t want us to kill anyone else. Please, mom!” I begged, hoping that my words soothe her and that she would agree with Ashley’s suggestion.
“I don’t care! I will do it alone if I have to do it all by myself! Bunch of stupid ingrates.” She shouted at us and stormed out of the room.
Ashley and I were thrown off by the outburst.
“Mom is usually the kind one, why does she suddenly want us to kill an innocent person after already killing one?” I asked, puzzled.
“I don’t know what is going on too. This is quite a shocker for me. What do we do? I cannot allow that innocent woman’s blood to be shared unjustly.” Ashley replied.
“We need to move her out of the pack tonight. I fear that mom might go after her soon. I will make up for what I have done if I have to. I don’t want to put you through anything, Ashley, but I need your help. I require you to arrange a place for her to stay. I’ll set up everything else.”
“Wilson, I know you regret what happened and want to make it right but, why don’t you just let Mom have her way this time? It will save us a lot of trouble.” Ashley said and I heaved sadly.
