I stormed off to my room and slammed the door loudly.
“Ungrateful!” I screamed.
I was so upset and I realized why. I had taken my drugs to the hospital and left them there when I was rushing back home to meet Wilson.
I stomped off to my bathroom and went to my medic box. I brought out my drugs and swallowed my dosage for the day. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves. I heard a knock on my door and Wilson came inside.
“What do you want?” I snapped at him immediately after I came out of my bathroom.
“Mom, please. I just want to talk to you. I am not here to argue or fight.” Wilson said to me.
“What do you want, Wilson? I do not have all day. I have an ungrateful family to take care of.” I said and scoffed.
“Beautiful Mom, we have agreed with you. I am sorry that I tried to make you seem like a bad person, knowing fully well that it is because of me that you are forced to resort to such extremes.” Wilson apologized to me politely.
“I did not like what you did back there with your sister. Do you even realize how grievous what you have done is? We could all be killed and burnt alive alongside our properties and everything we own. That is how serious it can get. So what is one more life compared to ours?” I asked him and he lowered his eyes.
“I agree with you Mom. I just did not want anything that would put us into any trouble. I will go to the old woman’s house tonight and finish what I started.” He said, and I saw a bout of dishonesty flash across his face.
“No. I will do it myself. I want to see to it that it is done, and it is done well.” I replied.
“Mom, you really don’t have to do that. Ashley and I will take care of it” he attempted to assure me.
“One thing you fail to understand is I am your mother. I know the two of you much more than you could ever know yourselves. I know you do not intend to kill the old woman. I do not want your help. I am even more upset about the fact that you thought that you could play on my intelligence. Leave my room Wilson” I ordered and pointed to the door.
He looked at the door and back at me.
“Mom, please. Reconsider your decision. I beg of you. I can move the old woman to another pack and have someone follow her.” He pleaded.
“And what happens if someone from this pack goes there and recognizes her and calls whatever replacement you have for Kirsten another name? What do you do then, Mr. Merciful smart pants?” I asked him and watched his face change into sadness.
“Mom…”
“Do not mom me. Leave my room and forget about everything else. I have to rush back to the hospital, preggo is still on admission, and no one is waiting on her.” I said and walked off, to pass across the message to Wilson that I was done speaking to him about anything.
I heard my door close, and I fell heavily on the bed. I needed to get my son out of the room fast before the pills I had taken started to react. I have been hiding my true health from my family.
From the beginning, I was always the strong one and the pillar of the family. I have had to take care of their father and them, throwing my life away so that they can live theirs. I deserved more than what they were treating me as.
And I expected them to treat me like their god. I felt convinced that I had sacrificed more than any of them had for this family. I was the glue that made us all stick together, united into a big family.
I drifted off to sleep and jerked awake about two hours and a few minutes later. Soon after I heard a soft knock on my door.
“Come in” I answered drowsily.
“Mom, can I come in?” Ashley’s voice floated into my ears from outside the door and I had to force myself to get up.
“I just said come in!” I snapped at her.
She opened the door and came in, closing it behind her gently.
“Hey Mom, I am sorry that I woke you up from sleep. I thought you would be preparing to leave for the hospital. Wilson told me that he spoke to you, he even doubted if you were still around.” She said nervously, and I could see her hands shaking.
“What do you want Ashley? I fell asleep so you know that I am already in a big rush. Whatever you want to say, say it snappily. I don’t have so much time to spare anymore.” I said as I got up and started putting my essentials in a small handbag.
