I was surprised when our informant told us of the presence of Alpha Rolan. Even though we had rushed down here from the hospital, considering the urgency of the matter we needed to handle at the border fence.
Mom had insisted we both go when I chose to stay back and look after Preggo. Mom has been acting funny of late, and I wondered if it had anything to do with the sudden appearance of preggo.
I had intended to discuss that with Wilson when our informant ran towards us to tell us about the presence of the Supreme Alpha.
Wilson had not wanted to go. I wondered why he never really liked the Alpha and every time I had asked him, he had only shrugged his shoulders or scoffed and ignored me. Even when he had found out that I had a crush on the alpha, he had refused to help me get to meet him in any way.
“We are going to say hello. Go and inform their informant that we will be coming to courtesy to the Supreme Wolf Alpha.” I said to our informant and he ran off.
“I am not going to go with you, Ashley. I came here for something else, you know preggo is in the hospital, and we need to get back to her so it does not become overwhelming for Mom.” He protested, his face stern and his tone serious.
“Hell no! Wilson, you are going to escort me there and introduce me. It would be very awkward if I just walked there and introduced myself. There is no self-respect in that. So you will drop whatever beef you secretly have with Alpha Rolan of White Moon pack and do what your baby sister is asking of you!” I thundered and then ordered some men to follow us while I dragged Wilson’s unwilling body with me to say hello.
“Alpha Rolan, it is a pleasure to finally meet you. I learned about your men working from the sounds reverberating on our soils at the other side.” Wilson said calmly, a smile dancing around his lips.
I was in shock at his total switch in personality, but I was gladdened. It showed he was putting in effort for me to get what I wanted.
“I did not think that the sounds would cause so much inconvenience, I will ask my engineers to look into how that can be curtailed. I do hope that there was no serious damage done to your pack?” Alpha Rolan replied Wilson calmly.
“Oh, no worries Alpha Rolan. I merely came here to introduce myself and get better acquainted with you. I have read about you severally on the Wolph Papers. This is my younger sister, Ashley. She doubles as my assistant and knows her onions about figuring things like this.” Wilson introduced, and I stepped forward, bowing slightly, the shyness threatening to cripple me.
“Hello Alpha Rolan, I am Ashley. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” I said calmly, sure that everyone had heard the anxiety in my voice and I tried to keep the way I was getting flustered at bay.
“Hello, Ashley” his sweet voice floated into my ears.
I became speechless when he said that, it was the first time he was ever speaking to me.
On the only two occasions, we were privileged to be in the same room with him, he had not even spared me a glance, talking more about having a conversation with me. It was why I had insisted that Wilson accompany me to talk to him.
I did not realize that I was staring and had not said anything else to Alpha Rolan until Wilson dug his fingers into my ribs and jolted me back to reality.
“Your brother mentioned that you are an expert in all these. What are these?” He asked me, his eyes staring intently at me.
Under his hot gaze, I felt like melting into the ground and everything I knew about machines flew out of my head.
“I help with just a few technical interpretations and repairs.” I managed to choke out, seeing that I was really embarrassing myself and perhaps blowing my chance at making an impression on the Alpha.
“Well, I have a lot of machines you can look at here in the main pack. I do not mind you coming around to study or give your opinions on certain inventions. What do you think about that?” He asked me and I almost jumped into his arms. I knew that he must really like me to extend such an act of kindness to me after we just got to talk once.
I already started imagining my happily ever after with him and our beautiful babies.
“Uhh… Thank you, Alpha Rolan. I can assure you that Ashley is usually more talkative than this. I am sure she is just starstruck which is why she is acting like a complete oaf!” Wilson’s annoying voice cut into my daydreaming.
“Oh, I am sorry about that. I tend to daze out every so often. It will be an honor to work with you, Alpha Rolan.” I said courteously and bowed slightly.
The men moved away from where we stood and soon, Wilson and Rolan were pointing at the same things and listening to each other’s opinions.
I wished I could be my usual self, I knew a lot about the machines they were using. It was the high-end machines that only the richest of packs could afford to carry out thorough and meticulous investigations.
I looked around me to survey the area and my eyes locked with one of Alpha Rolan’s men, he was looking at me intently, and I felt angry at his stare.
“Is there a problem?” I walked up to him and challenged him, wondering why he was looking at me like he knew me from somewhere.
“No ma’am. I deeply apologize for that.” He said calmly.
“What is your name?” I asked.
