I felt a tugging in my chest as the thought of Pandora filled my mind.
As I sat down comfortably at the back of his limousine, I began to pray that the moon goddess protected her and my kids. I had to go and inspect the fence today.
A lot of breaches had happened at the borders over the weekend, including the kidnap of an Omega’s son.
I wondered if someone had found Pandora early and snuck her out of the pack using the fence. I knew that if that was what happened, it might be really difficult to locate her again.
Still, I kept hope alive and tried to avoid the negative thoughts that kept tugging at the back of my mind.
“Are we almost there?” I asked Griffin, impatiently. Sitting down and doing nothing is usually what allows these thoughts to come to my head, so I needed us to get to where we were going fast so I could be up and about.
“We are almost there, boss,” Griffin replied to me calmly. He kept his eyes fixated on the road, and I could see his pupils dart to the mirror to check if I was fine.
“I am fine, Griffin. You do not have to sneakily look at me, I feel weird that you are doing that.” I said and Griffin blushed furiously.
I did not make any comment, instead, I picked up the latest magazine that captures happenings around the wolf world.
Furthermore, I had threatened media houses across packs not to release the news of my wife’s disappearance. I did not know where she was, and I would not want to do something that would expose her to the cruel world without protection.
I had sworn to protect her, I was not even there when she had to pass through everything all by herself. I felt ashamed of my ineptitude and promised myself that I would do whatever it took to bring my mate back.
When I eventually do, I will make sure nothing of such ever happens to her again.
“We are here, boss,” Griffin announced, cutting into my thoughts. I jolted back to reality and looked around me. The rest of the men had all come down from their cars and were waiting for me to step out.
“Okay. Call me the head of the investigation. Do we have all the heavy machines we need?” I asked, knowing we were going to be doing a thorough check of the fence to see where exactly the hole was.
“Okay, boss. We do have all the heavy machines, we also got extra operators so that they can run shifts in case the other gets exhausted.” Griffin informed me and I smiled at his thoughtfulness, I had not thought about hiring extra hands.
I got out of the car and the scorching afternoon sun blazed furiously at me. I knew that if Pandora was still around, she would never have let me step out of the house without using sunscreen. I squinted and tried to use my hands to block the full assault of the sun.
Griffin opened an umbrella and put it above my head, walking sturdily behind me. I was grateful for what he did, but I kept a straight face and pretended that I did not take notice of it.
The men had already started working on various sites around the fence. The head of the investigation handed me a reflective jacket and a helmet as we went around the work sites for inspection.
I saw the men using various machines to scan the walls, some dug it, some dissected it and some, well, some machines were just to check what else needed to be checked.
A man ran to Griffin and whispered something in his ear, my eyes caught the movement and met Griffin’s eyes. He started walking towards me and I knew he had something important to discuss with me.
“Excuse me, boss? The Alpha of Red Creek Pack, Alpha Wilson, who heard the noise at their side, has come over to this side of the boundary. He requests, humbly, to speak to you, sir.” Griffin said and bowed slightly.
“Alpha Wilson? I thought he was a bookworm that never leaves his palace?” I asked, surprised to hear that as there was even a myth that insinuated that Alpha Wilson was not a real person.
“I am quite surprised too, boss. But, my informant assures me that he approaches us for peace.” Griffin said, I nodded my head, and he soon disappeared.
Barely a few minutes later, he returned followed closely by a tall man and a young girl, who were followed closely behind by some bodyguards.
Griffin got to me first and took a protective position beside me. When the entourage got to me, they all bowed slightly as a form of respect and I nodded.
“Alpha Rolan, it is a pleasure to finally meet you. I learned about your men working from the sounds reverberating on our soils at the other side.” Alpha Wilson said calmly, a smile dancing around his lips.
“I did not think that the sounds would cause so much inconvenience, I will ask my engineers to look into how that can be curtailed. I do hope that there was no serious damage done to your pack?” I asked him calmly since he had approached me politely.
“Oh, no worries Alpha Rolan. I merely came here to introduce myself and get better acquainted with you. I have read about you severally on the Wolph Papers. This is my younger sister, Ashley. She doubles as my assistant and knows her onions about figuring things like this.” Alpha Wilson said and judged his sister forward.
She walked forward shyly and bowed slightly.
“Hello Alpha Rolan, I am Ashley. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” She said calmly, I heard the anxiety in her voice and wondered why she was so flustered from just meeting me.
“Hello Ashley,” I said, and my heart immediately began to hurt.
