I stirred a bit, my legs felt stiff, and I tried to move my body.
“Hey, don’t move.” I heard a low feminine voice say from beside me. I tried to recollect how I got here, but my mind was blank.
“Where am I?” I asked quietly.
“You are in the Red Creek pack. My brother found you in a ditch in the forest.” The young lady replied calmly.
“How did I get there?” I asked, worried about what I was doing in a ditch. I tried to rub my growling stomach and felt a bump. My eyes flew open.
“I am pregnant? How am I pregnant? How long have I been here?” I questioned suspiciously.
“Relax. He found you pregnant. You have only been off for three weeks. We had estimated about six weeks for you to make a full recovery so you can tell us about where you came from and why you were running in the forest.”
“Seems to me that you have lost your memory, so I will wait for my brother to come back so he can explain things better to you.” She explained patiently and handed me a chilled cup of water.
I downed the contents of the cup and took in a deep breath as I could feel the cool water’s chilling effect going down my throat. I could almost kiss the young lady for such kindness. I muttered my thanks and returned the cup to her.
She gave me a plate of fruits, which I wolfed down hungrily, wondering how I survived for three weeks since I wasn’t conscious of eating.
“The pregnancy? Did you check if the baby is fine?” I asked, somehow worried in a way that I couldn’t explain like I had been asking not to lose them.
“Baby?” The lady said and laughed.
Immediately the door opened, and a beautiful older woman came in, followed closely by a man who looked so much like someone I used to know.
“Ashley, when did she regain consciousness?” The older woman asked.
“Just a few minutes ago, Mom,” Ashley replied.
“That’s good then.” She replied and sat beside me on the bed.
“Hello young lady” she greeted, and I bowed my head slightly to show respect and also gratefulness to them.
“My name is Mrs. Edna. I am the Queen Luna of the Red Creek pack. You are welcome here.” She introduced herself politely to me.
“These are my children, Ashley and Wilson. Wilson is the Alpha of the pack and also the one who brought you in here three weeks ago. How do you feel today?” She asked, and I almost wept at her thoughtfulness and kindness.
“Thank you so much, ma’am. I do not really remember anything. I do not even know my name. Did you find anything on me?” I asked.
“No. He brought you home in your wolf form. You were bleeding badly, and we had to work on your anemia first. You have no idea what had happened to you until the ditch you were found in?” She asked me and I shook my head.
“You will be fine,” Ashley assured me and touched my cheeks gently.
I felt warm and happy. Even though the pain I was feeling everywhere on my body was very distracting, I focused on the three people who were with me in the room.
The Wilson man refused to leave when his mother said she wanted to examine her.
“I am also a doctor, mom.” He protested childishly.
They all laughed and he left the room.
“I am going to examine you now. To be sure you and the babies are perfectly fine. Is that okay with you?” Mrs. Edna said, I wondered where their father went but thought nothing of it as I opened my legs for her to check.
“Why do you keep saying babies?” I asked, puzzled since my mind only registered one baby.
“You are having triplets. Until we figure out your name, we have agreed to call you Preggo. My brother is already on the lookout for how he can trace you back to your roots. He is an expert in such things, so you have nothing to worry about.” Ashley assured me and held my hands as my face contorted in a grimace due to the slight pain that I was feeling.
“Is everything okay, Mrs. Edna?” I asked.
“Yes, preggo. And you can call Me Luna or Mom, whenever you feel like it. However, you will need to be on complete bed rest until when you are in labor. Because of the nature of the pregnancy that you are carrying, it would be really risky to involve yourself in strenuous activities.” She said and massaged my slightly swollen foot.
When I heard Mrs. Edna mention Luna, my heart skipped a bit and I wondered why I felt that way about someone else calling herself Luna.
“Is everything okay? Your face looks worried. Did you remember any…”
“Ashley, leave the young preggo alone. She has been through enough already. Do not torment her further with your never-ending questions. I am examining her, it just hurts a bit. She will be fine.” Mrs. Edna said and hurried Ashley out of the room.
Left all by myself, I began to try to see if I could remember anything from my past. I thought hard and hard but nothing came.
“Derrick” I suddenly remembered just as I hit a wave of deadly headaches that threatened to make me go blind. I shut my eyes tightly as I heard the door open and close gently.
When I opened my eyes, the gentleman who had saved me was standing in front of me with a glass of water and two tablets of aspirin in his hands. Wilson handed it over to her and nudged her to swallow it.
“It doesn’t hurt. It will make you feel better.” His gentle voice floated into my ears. His voice was calm, like the sound of a waterfall.
“Thank you for saving my life,” I said.
“You saved mine!” He replied, and I didn’t think too much of it.
