Callie was deep in thought when a sudden sharp pain in her abdomen made her break out in a cold sweat. She cried out in pain.
She tried to endure it, but the pain only intensified. Biting her lip, she searched for nearby hospitals and found one not far away.
Callie quickly gathered herself and decided to take a cab. As she stepped out of her room, she bumped into a woman. The woman was not young, had an ordinary appearance, and dressed plainly but in high-end fashion, exuding an air of elegance.
Callie paid no attention and was about to pass by when the woman spoke, “Mrs. Oconnor?”
There was a mix of doubt and certainty in her voice.
Callie frowned, “Do you know me?”
The woman nodded, “I’ve seen you a few times around Bridger. You’re with Nelson.”
Knowing Bridger meant she was likely someone close to Nelson.
“And you are…?”
“My name is Mollie Ross, Bridger’s girlfriend.”
Callie seemed to recall the name from somewhere. “Callie Marsh,” she introduced herself briefly. “I have an urgent matter, let’s talk next time.”
Mollie noticed Callie’s cold sweat and asked directly, “Are you sick?”
“Yes, my stomach hurts. It might be acute gastroenteritis.”
“I’ll take you there. I have nothing else to do, and it’s always better to have someone with you.”
Callie hesitated but then nodded, thinking that someone from Bridger should be trustworthy. “Thank you.”
With someone accompanying her, she felt less anxious.
In the car, Callie couldn’t stop worrying about Nelson. She hesitated and sent Jaquan a brief message: “Is this related to you?”
There was no reply.
Her hand holding the phone was sweating.
At the hospital, after listening to Callie’s symptoms, the doctor paused. “Miss Marsh, I suggest you visit the gynecology department.”
“Gynecology?”
“Yes, gynecology.”
“Pregnancy at 23 days, ectopic implantation in the fallopian tube, complicated by cervical inflammation and infection with bleeding. I recommend an immediate abortion.” The female doctor spoke with a tone that suggested she had seen this many times before.
She glanced at the young woman in front of her. “Are you married?”
Callie stood there in shock, asking incredulously, “I’m pregnant?”
The doctor flipped through her medical records impatiently. “Yes, only 23 days. There are no obvious pregnancy symptoms yet. Fortunately, it was discovered early. Keeping this child would harm you.”
“Cervical inflammation is a clear indication of a woman’s disease,” she repeated. “Girl, are you married?”
The joy of becoming a mother was crushed before it could even take root. Callie’s eyes were vacant as she nodded subconsciously and said with an uncertain tone, “Yes, but…”
The doctor’s eyes turned mocking upon hearing her hesitant answer. She looked at Callie with a familiar disdain. “Married and still ended up like this? Such careless personal life? Girl, is your husband here?”
Callie clutched her abdomen, unable to fathom that there was a child inside her.
“He… he’s busy.” Callie asked hollowly, “Can I not keep this child?”
“Of course not! Do you want to die? Is this about love and affection?”
Only 23 days.
Not even a month. Such a heavy sin, it hadn’t even formed yet.
Callie numbly held the medical slip and walked outside. Mollie was waiting on a seat and stood up when she saw her. “How did it go?”
