Callie lay in bed for a while, the pain in her abdomen gradually subsiding. She thought it was just her period coming.
Regan called her on video, teasingly saying, “You and your husband are quite close. Everyone in the circle knows about Mrs. Oconnor flying all the way to Afupshire.”
Callie blushed on the other end of the screen. “Regan, I’m worried about him.”
Regan shrugged, lounging on the sofa looking relaxed. “It’s good. At least someone cares and waits for him. Just do what you want to do.”
Callie nodded, mentioning that she had left the studio affairs to Eliza and Jade before she came, so Regan should not worry. Then she asked, “Where are you? It doesn’t look like you’re at the Ellison family home.”
The environment in the video was unfamiliar.
“I’m at Dr. Quinn’s place. Speaking of which, he was late today.” Dr. Quinn was the psychologist Callie had asked Tobias to find for her. It was said that his appointments were booked three months in advance, and he agreed to come only because of Tobias.
“It seems he makes you feel at ease.” Callie thought she should thank Tobias properly when she returned to Ylosea. “He… Isaac hasn’t hit you again, has he?”
Regan’s silence was an acknowledgment.
“I have a bad feeling. Do you think Nelson can win this time?” Callie was still worried. Even his grandfather had been alarmed. She hadn’t dared to see the old man before she left, fearing she would bring him unease.
“What are you worried about? He is Nelson.” Regan seemed indifferent but hesitated for a moment. “Actually, it’s hard to say. The Oconnor Group has been a big target for many years, attracting countless jealousies. If someone is plotting to bring him down, it might be possible.”
Hearing this, Callie became more anxious, her eyes falling on the documents he had left on the table. “I suddenly remembered something…”
When she visited Nelson’s grandfather, she had seen Dale and Shamar looking very secretive. Could it be related to them?
But if Nelson’s grandfather knew, he would surely protect Nelson and not let things get to this point.
“What is it?”
“Nothing, maybe I’m overthinking.”
She didn’t elaborate, but Regan seemed to remember something and said suddenly, “Most of the Ellison family’s business is at the port, dealing with foreign capital. These days Marilyn has been taking over family affairs. Maybe… never mind… I’m not sure either.”
Callie was puzzled and wanted to ask more, but just then, a man in a white coat appeared behind Regan. His face wasn’t visible, but his lean physique and prominent veins on his hands looked wild and full of hormones.
He said, “Miss Regan, we should start now.”
The voice transmitted through the current sounded very unfamiliar.
Regan responded and then told Callie, “I have to go.”
The video call ended, leaving Callie deep in thought about what Regan had said. She opened her computer and searched for Marilyn’s name. Sure enough, a report popped up: “The Ellison family heiress has returned to take over the management of the business.”
There was a photo of Marilyn attached, looking charming and gentle but with a hint of cunning in her eyes.
The reporter commented that she had much of her father Ahmad’s demeanor.
Callie clicked on various investments under the Ellison family, finding that eighty percent were related to foreign capital.
She clenched her fist under her nose, breathing slowly as she looked at the information.
If Marilyn wanted to take over Oconnor Group and leave Nelson with nothing, what was she after?
