I blinked at that. “Two heartbeats? What the hell are you talking about? Don’t tell me the injected serum caused it?” I sat up as a dark thought gripped my mind. “Am I a monster? Would I turn into a bat and start biting random people like Dracula? Would I have to sleep in a coffin? Oh, my God! I’m not ready to live in a spooky castle!” I yelled, mourning my fate.
“Well…” He scratched his hair as his eyes darted from me to the door, almost like he was expecting my mates to kick the don’t down. “I don’t know about the person you mentioned, or turning into a bat thingy and biting people. Is it a normal thing for humans?” He leaned in to whisper, sounding genuinely curious.
I blinked, wondering who among us should be curious. “What’s with the double heartbeats, then? Am I sick? If I’m not turning to Dracula any time soon, what’s amiss with me?”
“I think…” He trailed off, glancing towards the door as if there were something he didn’t want to say. “This might all be baseless. I will have to check on you to provide the right diagnosis.”
“You know what’s wrong with me,” I stated, frowning at him. “Why are you concealing it? Why don’t you tell me about it?”
“I still need to verify,” he asserted. “Give me a few minutes, and I will tell you what’s wrong with you. I can’t do that now because it will only seem to be a baseless claim.”
Puzzled, I laid back on the bed. “What do you want me to do?” I asked, sounding impatient as I waited for him to tell me what was wrong with me.
His expression was void of any emotions, so I couldn’t tell whether whatever he discovered was something good or not.
“Close your eyes and cease breathing for twenty seconds. Can you do that?”
“I will try.” Giving him a look that could freeze a person to death – I wish – I closed my eyes and held my breath, counting the numbers in my head, to know when I should open my eyes.
I expected to feel the calming sensation or the cool feeling, but I got none of them. The entire room was silent, almost like I was the only one there.
“You can open your eyes now,” he spoke at last, breaking through my thoughts.
Gasping, I opened my eyes to look at him, noting his knitted brows. “What’s wrong with me?” I demanded as I sat up on the bed, curious to know why he had the expression on his face.
“You are pregnant,” he deadpanned, looking puzzled.
“Pregnant????!!” I screamed, widening my eyes. “Impossible,” I murmured, shaking my head.
“Why do you think it’s impossible-”
The door was almost ripped from its hinges as my lovers barged into the room and straight to me.
“Impossible,” I muttered, staring at them.
“Bella?” Blue placed his right palm on my forehead, to check my temperature, while Fred confronted the guy.
“What did you say to her?” He demanded.
“She’s pregnant,” the man responded, looking towards me. “I picked up two heartbeats and -”
“You are pregnant?” My lovers sounded awed. Their eyes seemed to gleam.
“We thought our ears were playing tricks on us when we heard you yell it out,” Blue muttered. “But it’s true.” He reached over to me and placed his hand on my tummy. “You have our baby growing in your belly. ” His voice was filled with love, raw and emotional.
“This is wonderful news,” Fred whispered, coming over to me. “Why did you scream when you heard about it?”
“Because it’s impossible.” I looked towards the so-called healer. “Are you certain that I’m pregnant?”
I wanted to know he wasn’t playing any tricks on me. Hearing that I was pregnant left me with no emotions. I couldn’t tell whether I was happy about it or not.
“There’s no way I could be mistaken. I have never been wrong,” he asserted, looking like I had insulted him by asking that. “If you think I’m lying about it, you can have your human doctors check on you. I believe they will give the same report. If there’s nothing else, my kings, I will be on my way.” Bowing to them, he left the room.
I leaned on the headboard as it dawned on me. I was pregnant with their baby. I should be happy, but I couldn’t be, not with different thoughts swirling through my mind.
“You don’t look happy,” Blue commented, bringing me out of my thoughts. I had to blink to focus on them. “Why did you think it was impossible?”
“I’m on the pills,” I whispered, looking between them. “I shouldn’t have been able to conceive!” I argued.
“You were on the pills?” Fred asked, his voice low. He sounded … sad? “Does that mean you don’t want to have kids with us?”
“What would you have done if you signed a contract with strange men to be their fuck toys? Wouldn’t you have taken the precautions I took?” I glared at him, wondering why he would give a double meaning to my response. “I had just met you, and back then, I didn’t know we would go this far in our relationship. I assumed it would just be a fleeting thing. You know, the whole ‘let’s go on our different ways after this’ type of thing, right?”
I didn’t realize I would end up falling for them. Back then, I had thought I would only have to be with them for the two months stated, and after that, we wouldn’t communicate with each other. Who would have guessed I would end up falling for them? It wasn’t part of the plan.
“Why didn’t you stop taking it after we got together?” Blue demanded, sounding like I had broken their trust or something.
“Excuse me.” I tore my gaze from Fred to him. “How did you expect me to stop taking the medication when I didn’t know if this was forever??! I only got to know I was your mate today, and you are already acting like I should have known from the first time we met?”
