OLIVIA
I dashed inside Escobar’s office without knocking. The suspense was killing me. I couldn’t wait to find out where Cyril was taken.
“Olivia?
What did you just do?
Why would you force yourself into my office like that? That was disrespectful, and I demand an apology this minute,” Doctor Escobar was in full rage. I saw that coming. If I was the one who got busted that way, I would be mad at the person.
“I am sorry for coming In the way I did. Trust me, it wasn’t planned,” I finally apologized.
“What do you want?
Wait, I want to believe that you are not here to plead with me about Rene? Because that’s never going to happen. Remember what I told you the last time you visited?” Escobar reminded me ahead, forcing me to swallow my question.
Rene was somehow part of what I wanted to discuss with Doctor Escobar, which made it impossible to proceed with my question.
“I thought as much.
It’s about Rene, isn’t it? Sorry, there’s nothing I can do about that. You may need to leave now,” Escobar dismissed me without even listening to what I wanted to say. From my body language, he already concluded that It had everything to do with Rene.
“It’s not about Rene, it’s Cyril. I just went to his ward and discovered it’s empty. It’s been occupied by another patient,” I finally summoned the courage to speak after many failed attempts.
“What are you talking about? Cyril is there. He was with Rene last night,” Escobar debunked and tossed off the chair.
My heart was cut open the moment Escobar admitted that he wasn’t aware that Cyril was missing from the ward.
“If you sit there and keep asking questions, you may have to wait for eternity. Get on your feet, let’s go find out,” I charged Doctor Escobar. I was sick and tired of sluggishness. I wanted him to get into action immediately.
“A moment please.
I need to quickly sort out something,” Escobar pleaded with me. For over 3 minutes, he narrowed his gaze around his office as though he were searching for something.
“Doctor Escobar!” I screamed with the loudest voice to the extent that I nearly destroyed my vocal cords.
“Right now,”
Escobar rushed outside as we ran to Cyril’s war to satisfy his curiosity.
“Oh, my world!
What the heck is happening here?” Escobar exclaimed in shock the moment he found another patient in the world.
However, the patient In question shared some striking resemblance with Cyril in terms of the shape of their face. Nonetheless, it wasn’t enough to convince me that It was Cyril.
Unlike Cyril, the patient had his legs and neck wrapped up in bandages. He wasn’t alone In the ward. He was with a lady suspected to be his lover.
“Where is the patient that occupied this ward last night?” I was quick to ask since Escobar was wasting too much time doing his job.
“What are you talking about? We arrived this morning and I can assure you that the ward was empty when we came in,” the lady revealed. She sounded a bit rude to not just me but Doctor Escobar too.
I ignored her attitude as I strived to find Cyril. The nightmare I had in Adrian’s mansion lingers in my head. It’s pushing me to the truth regardless of how I tend to ignore it.
“So what are we going to do about this? Don’t just stand there and do nothing. Make a move,” I put the pressure on Escobar. I wasn’t pleased with the way he was handling the situation. For someone who is a professional medical doctor, his attitude scares me.
“Hold on a second.
I am thinking of getting the best solution,” He shut his eyes to think.
“How long would it take you to find a solution? To tell you the truth, I am not pleased with what you’re doing right now. It doesn’t even make any sense. Go call the nurses. Perhaps, they would know what to do about this,” I charged Escobar. I couldn’t wait for him to decide.
“Yes, that’s true.
The nurses.
I never thought about that,” he snapped his hands and rushed to the reception where the other nurses were. I followed him immediately. I was unable to trust him to handle the situation when he could barely even comfort himself.
“Where’s Cyril?”
He asked one of the nurses at the reception. Her name was Amanda Peterson. At her left breast pocket had her name crested with a black thread.
“Is he not in his ward?”
Amanda questioned Escobar.
“Is this supposed to be a joke?
How would you ask such a question? You were the nurse I left in charge with him last night. You ought to know where he is,” Escobar lashed at Amanda. That was precisely what I expected from him from the onset, but instead, he chose to act nonchalantly.
“Now I’ve had enough of you two.
I am calling the cops right now to get involved.” I took out my phone and started calling some numbers.
“What are you doing?”
Escobar leaned forward
He got engrossed, scolding Amanda, and wasn’t even aware I was trying to reach out to the cops.
“What does it seem like I’m doing?
Calling the cops, of course.
Y’all are going to get your ass locked up in jail if Cyril fails to show up,” I threatened them.
“You can’t do that.
We are trying our best to ensure we find Cyril,” Escobar pleaded. I quickly returned and edged backward to prevent him from snatching the phone from me after I saw the nasty moves he was making.
As the heated argument continued, I saw Kate and Adrian rushing toward the reception as though they were being chased by thieves
“What the fuck are you two doing here? I don’t recall inviting you over,” I flared up. It would have been better if it were just Kate alone. The arrival of Adrian just complicated my situation.
