OLIVIA.
“How did you find yourself in our matrimonial bedroom? Is that supposed to be a question? Am I supposed to answer that? This is your home, Olivia,” Cyril said as his smile spread across his face.
“Home? What home are you talking about? This doesn’t even look real to me. Is there something you’re not telling me?” I mumbled while still trying to wrap my head around what he told me.
“Nothing is hiding. I am telling you the truth. Look around you, what do you see?” Cyril tasked me.
“I see beautiful photo frames of us hanging on the wall,” I answered with a hint of confusion.
“What about Rene?
I thought she was your wife?” I asked Cyril as I strived to confirm if my thoughts were real or mere hallucinating.
“Who the heck is that?
I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He quickly vindicated himself.
“Hold on a second.
I’ll be back with your breakfast,” Cyril sought my permission and dashed outside.
“Breakfast in bed?” I muttered succinctly. It felt to me like the world was ending. Cyril has never been romantic to me, let alone offered me breakfast in bed before.
I was starting to speculate if the accident had anything to do with his newly discovered behavior toward me. To make matters worse, he doesn’t even remember who Rene is anymore.
“This is what I’ve always wanted. Isn’t it wonderful?” I grinned.
My wishes were coming to pass right before my very eyes, even when I least expected it.
While I waited for Cyril to return with breakfast in bed, I heard someone calling my name. The voice sounded like Adrian’s.
I ignored the voice because I didn’t see the possibility of walking into my matrimonial bedroom, especially when Cyril was around.
The more I ignored the voice, the more it kept calling me.
“Wake up, Olivia,” Adrian’s voice echoed to my eardrum again to what seemed like he was trying to wake me up.
“Wake up?
How’s that possible?
I am not even sleeping,”
I said to myself.
Accidentally, I shut my eyes and found myself next to Adrian in his guest room.
“You awake now.
Finally,” he smiled at me.
Narrowing my gaze around, I spotted a tray filled with a glass of coffee and toast bread.
“What’s that?” I pointed to the tray on the stool.
“Breakfast on the bed.
I just thought it might be best to make you some since you starved to bed yesterday,” Adrian explained.
“Son of a bitch!” I smirked and facepalmed.
At that moment, a thought crossed my mind, forcing me to check my underpants.
“Don’t worry, nothing happened,” Adrian assured me. I was forced to believe after I noticed that I still wore the same clothes I slept with the previous night.
“So it was all a dream? Damn it!”
I bemoaned.
“What dream are you talking about? Did you have a nightmare?” Adrian leaned forward in an attempt to touch me.
“Get out.
I want to bathe.
I need to get to the hospital immediately,”I pleaded with Adrian in a calm tone.
I was upset, yet managed to conceal my anger. It would be unreal to get mad at Adrian for doing absolutely nothing wrong to me.
“Isn’t it too early to go home? Are you sure you want to do this? I thought you were waiting for Rene to call?” Adrian was bothered.
I looked at him with a bombastic side-eye. “Who gives a fuck about Rene? Are you refusing to leave because you’ve seen me naked before?”
“No, I was just wondering why you want to leave so early.
Even if you want to leave, can you please have breakfast first?” Adrian suggested.
“Hell no.
Please leave immediately,”
I yelled at Adrian, forcing him to leave.
I picked up my phone, hoping to receive a text from Rene that Cyril had regained his lost memory. None of that happened. Not even a missed call from Doctor Escobar to keep my hopes high.
The most shocking part of it all was Kate. I haven’t received a call or text from her yet. It’s as though everyone forgot I existed, and the only person who cared about me was Adrian.
Panic attack, anxiety, and fright all ganged up to torment me as I had a quick bath.
Disregarding my paled face and rough clothes, I got dressed and dashed outside only to find Adrian leaning against my car.
From a distance, I called him out. “What are you doing there?”
“Waiting for you to get dressed so I can drive you to the hospital,” he replied.
“You have to be kidding me. I don’t need you to do anything for me. I appreciate you trying to help out with everything but at this rate, you need to stop because you’re outdoing yourself, and I’m not happy about it,”
I felt bad speaking to Adrian in such a manner, especially when I knew his intentions towards me were pure.
I had no choice.
It was the only way I could stop myself from getting attached to me. I couldn’t deal with the fact Cyril was in the hospital with Rene while I was always seen around with the man that I had a one-night stand with. It makes it impossible for me to heal.
“It’s fine.
I trust your decision.
I just thought it would be nice for me to be there for you,” Adrian finally retreated. He was so emotional.
I hate seeing him in that pathetic situation.
Reaching forward, I planted a kiss on his forehead. “You will forever remain a good man to me,”
I got inside the car and drove straight to the hospital. I didn’t bother calling Kate to accompany me.
I wanted to do it alone.
Without consulting Doctor Escobar’s consent, I rushed to Cyril’s ward and met a different patient there.
I turned back and left without asking about Cyril’s whereabouts. I went straight to Escobar’s office to satisfy my curiosity. He was in the best position to answer my question.
