OLIVIA
“You might want to take it easy on us.
We are just here to help out. It’s no big deal. You don’t have to break your back about it,” Adrian flared up at me. I’ve never seen him in his fit of rage before. I must have gotten under his thick skin.
“He’s right!
If you want to be mad at anyone, it should be. When he told me how you angrily left his place, I suggested that we come to find out what’s going on,”
Kate clarified. I started to feel guilty for yelling at Adrian when he did nothing wrong to upset me.
Regardless, I maintained my ego and refused to apologize to Adrian.
“Are you ready to provide Cyril now?
If Cyril isn’t found in the next five minutes, your hospital will be erased from history books for eternity,”
I threatened Escobar
“Wait a minute, what did I just hear you say about Cyril? What happened to him?” Kate cried when she heard my ranting.
“You should ask the so-called doctor in front of you. He’s in the best position to answer your question,” I hissed.
I moved away from Escobar. I couldn’t withstand his presence anymore. He infuriates me.
“Doctor, where the fuck is Cyril? I don’t want to believe what’s running through my mind right now so I would like you to do the talking,” Adrian questioned Escobar as he took over the situation. After the way I treated him earlier, I wasn’t expecting him to stand up for me.
As Escobar was about to speak, my phone rang. It was a call from Cyril.
I wiped the dirt off my eyes to be certain they weren’t leading me astray.
It was indeed Cyril calling me. Reluctantly, I answered the phone with a hint of doubt.
“Hello, is this you?”
My voice skipped.
“Why aren’t you home? I’ve been waiting for you,” The voice asked me.
Without being told, I knew it was Cyril over the phone.
“Cyril?
I can’t believe it’s you.
I will be home In a bit,”
I hung up the phone out of excitement.
Before I could make the first move to leave, I saw myself surrounded by Kate and Adrian. I had no idea they were paying attention to my telephone conversation with Cyril.
“I don’t want to believe that I’m hearing things that aren’t real.
I just want you to clarify this. Was that Cyril you just spoke with over the phone?” Kate was the first to ask while Adrian stayed quiet to hear me speak.
“Yes, it’s Cyril.
He’s home now.
He demands my presence immediately,” I replied eventually after a brief silence. It took me a while to regain my lost confidence.
“How’s that even possible for Cyril to be home? I thought he was at the hospital?” Adrian chipped in with the most annoying question. He was better off being silent.
“There’s only one way to find out,” I replied harshly and went away without notifying Doctor Escobar of the recent development. My top priority was finding Cyril and until I confirmed that he had regained his memory, nothing would ever matter to me anymore.
Adrian and Kate drove behind me as I went home.
“Olivia, please stay calm.
You don’t have to stress yourself over this,” Kate urged me immediately after we arrived at the mansion.
“Stay calm?
Is that what you should be talking about right now? I just told you that Cyril asked me to come home and this is what you’re saying? Screw you, Kate. I am going inside the house to see my husband.” I blasted Kate while Adrian tucked in arms in silence. After yelling at him at the hospital, he’s the last person I expected to speak up.
With a heart filled with expectations, I rushed into the living room and found Rene seated next to Cyril. My heart nearly jumped off my body the moment I saw Rene.
My hopes were dashed.
Here I was, harboring the thought that Cyril had regained his lost memory.
“Rene, you evil bitch!
What the fuck are you doing here?”
I pounced on Rene without asking questions. It took the joint effort of Adrian and Kate to pull me away from Rene. I was this close to tearing her skin apart before they stopped me.
“What has come over you lately?
Why would you attack her like that? She could get you arrested; you know that, right?” Adrian berated me. It was quite shocking to see him act that way when he ought to team up with me and fight Rene for attempting to snatch Cyril away from me.
“Whose side are you on, Adrian?
You should be taking sides with me and not a whore on a mission to snatch Cyril away from me,”
“I’m on the side of truth.
Besides, you are not even sure of your accusation. You are just letting your emotions overcloud your vision. If only you would stop imagining things that aren’t real,” Adrian spoke to me like a child. The humiliation was worse than seeing Rene seated next to Cyril.
“You dare accuse me of snatching your husband? Trust me, if I want to do that, it would have been done a long time ago,” Rene bragged while readjusting her hair that was dragged.
“Shut the fuck up, Rene!
I won’t let you speak to my wife in such a manner,” Cyril shut Rene up.
To the surprise of everyone, he acknowledged me as his wife.
“Did you just address me as your wife?” I asked Cyril with every bit of seriousness in me.
“Yes, I did.
Rene here helped me regain my lost memory. Immediately, Doctor Escobar discharged me. I pleaded with him not to tell you about it because I wanted it to be a surprise. Guess who just ruined the damn surprise? You! If only you were patient enough to ask questions before attacking an innocent lady the way you did. Now I wish my memory wasn’t restored. You just worsened it.” Cyril disclosed the shocking revelation that swept me off my feet.
My face was buried to the ground in shame. I was alive from the outside, but inside of me were dead cells.
