Reed’S POV.
“Alpha Jayce will join you shortly.” The guard I sent to call Jayce tells me and I nod at him. I’m here for us to discuss something very important. Something that will get him very upset. Heartbroken even, but he has to know.
It’s about Lloyd’s betrayal.
I’ve spent the last month gathering evidence on his betrayal and now that I’ve got enough information which includes video and audio records of Lloyd’s meetings with Jovan where they plan on how to kill either me or Alora or Jayce himself.
“Reed.” Jayce’s familiar voice calls and I turn to see him descending the staircase. I rise to my feet.
“Jayce.” My voice is calm. My heart bleeds for him. He trusts Lloyd with his life. News of his betrayal will desJovan him.
“What brings you here at this time? It’s late.”
“There’s something important I need to… uh… tell you. Show you.” My voice is very serious. He approaches me with a confused look on his face.
“I… I don’t like the tone of your voice and the look you are giving me right now. Did something go wrong?” The smile on his face has been replaced with a worried look. I sigh heavily and gesture to him to take a seat. He does. “Reed, will you tell me what’s going on? Is this about Halle and Madison? Are you confused about what decision to take?” I calmly shake my head in denial.
“This has got nothing to do with either of them.”
“Then what’s the problem?”
“Jayce.” I sigh and take out my cell phone from my pocket. “I’m about to show you a few videos and audios. You can never guess what they are about and you are definitely going to be very heartbroken once you see and listen to them, but I want to let you know that regardless of everything, you have me, your twin brother, by your side. I will fight with you till the end.”
“Understood.” He gives me a nod. I let out another sigh and unlock my phone. I search the file containing the videos and audios about Lloyd and hand the phone over to him.
“You can start watching or listening from anywhere. They all give the same message.”
“Right.” He manipulates the phone for a while and soon, an audio starts playing. We both listen in silence and face grows dark with confusion as he looks carefully at the screen.
“Isn’t this Lloyd?” He shoots me a brief glance before looking back at the screen.
“It’s him.”
“What the hell is he doing with Jovan and why are they…holy shit!” His gaze meets mine. “Lloyd is working with Jovan!”
“Yes, he is. The ambush at the pack borders was orchestrated by him, same with the accident that killed me. He has been working with Jovan for a long time now.” He drops the phone on the table and shoots up from his seat.
“Holy Moon goddess!” He cries. Pacing about. “Why on earth will Lloyd betray me like this? how… how did you even find out?”
“I uh…” I rose to meet him. “I’ve been suspecting his moves for some time now. I wanted to tell you what I noticed, but I knew accusing him of treason was a serious issue and I couldn’t bring it up to you without concrete evidence.”
“Now I understand why you despise him so much. Now I get why you never want to be the same with him.”
“He’s a traitor. A cold blooded murderer. I don’t know what he hopes to gain from dethroning you, but he’s very determined to do so. Jovan paid Alpha Myles a visit the other day and I’m sure they succeeded in getting him on their side. They are coming for you.” He rakes his fingers through his hair, groaning in frustration.
I can only imagine how he’s feeling right now. It definitely sucks to be betrayed by someone you trust with your life.
Your own Beta who swore an oath to fight by your side in time of peril.
“Reed. I need you to advise me on what to do because if I were to act according to how I’m feeling right now, I… uh… I’m going to go over to Lloyd’s house right now and kill him. Please, be my brain for now.”
“Alright… first, I need you to take a seat.” He obeys. “Lloyd knows I’m suspicious of him and he’s very wary of me, but he knows I haven’t said anything to you yet because of the lack of evidence. He knows you are oblivious to his crimes and we have to make sure it stays that way.” He gives me a sharp look. I nod. “Yes. It has to. In the coming days, I’m going to find out how they intend to go about their plans, even though an ambush is what I suspect they will go for. So, I suggest that we lay low, you act oblivious to this whole charade while lowkey preparing for any attack they prepare to haul at us. That’s how we are going to defeat them>
“That sounds like a brilliant plan, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to pretend I know nothing when I set my eyes on Lloyd. I am so upset and disappointed and furious at him. He tried to kill me. He succeeded in killing you and whilst all these, he dined with us like he’s our friend. How can one person be so evil?”
Now he’s getting emotional.
“I understand how you feel, but you have to pull yourself together so we can get this over with. Please.” His gaze meets mine. A sigh of relief escapes my chest when he sucks in a deep breath and nods his head in agreement.
“That’s the right thing to do.”
“And also, I wanted to ask you a favor.”
“What favor?”
“When the time comes, let me be the one to kill Lloyd.” His lips part in silent surprise. “You can handle Jovan.”
“I’m not having this conversation with you.” My mouth splits open wide in a booming laugh. He’s shaking his head at me like I’ve lost my mind, but I know, he knows I’m serious.
I have to be the one to kill Lloyd.
