Alora’S POV.
Jayce and I decided to have dinner in our bedroom this evening. Different varieties of meal have been served on the table in the sitting area and I’m looking at them, not even knowing where to start.
“These all smell very delicious.”
“They sure do.” He sits by my side and plants a warm kiss on my cheeks before taking up his plate to serve himself some food. He starts with chicken casserole.
Jayce loves anything with chicken in it.
I chuckle lightly as I serve my one meal and once I have a taste of it, all my senses become alert.
It tastes so good!
“Wow! Now I understand why you look so…” A chunk of food rises from my stomach to my throat and I have to close my mouth to stop it from spilling out.
Jayce gives me a concerned look.
“Are you alright?” I vigorously shake my head and bolt from my seat, running into the bathroom at the speed of light. Once in, I rush over to the toilet pot, slump on the floor, puking my lungs into the toilet pot. Milliseconds later, Jayce is by my side, calmly running my back and making sure my hair doesn’t get smudged with vomit.
My eyes start spinning the moment I’m done puking. My stomach is empty, I feel like I weigh less than nothing. Like there are no bones in my body. Nausea is struggling to take over me.
“I can’t feel a thing.” I cry to Jayce who is rubbing my back.
“Should I call the doctor over?”
“No.” I reply weakly, shaking my head. “Vomiting is normal and so is the nausea. All I need to do is rest and I’ll be fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah.” He calmly helps me to my feet and leads me to the sink to rinse my mouth. As I do that, a sharp pain slices through my abdomen, making me let out a loud painful scream. It doesn’t stop. It feels like my organs are being sliced and chopped into pieces by a sharp sword.
“Oh my God, my stomach!” I cry in pain, losing my balance, but Jayce doesn’t let me reach the ground. “Please let me sit down. I can’t stay on my feet.” I’m sweating profusely and he doesn’t seem to know what to do. I’m in immense pain. I’m crying and wiggling my body and there seems to be nothing he can do to relieve me of the pain. His eyes keep scanning my body from head to toe.
“No!” He suddenly shrieks in horror.
“What’s happening?” I ask, frightened, but he doesn’t tell me what’s going on. “I can feel a liquid trickling down my thighs…”
“It’s nothing baby, come here.” He is panicking as he scoops me into his arms and carries me bridal style.
His entire body is trembling. I’m still completely unaware of what’s going on with me.
“No, no, no, no…” He cries as he runs out of the room.
“Jayce please tell…” I didn’t complete my statement. Everything goes black.
Jayce’S POV.
“Reign!” I scream, shaking her in my arms. Tears flow down my eyes as I run through the hallway and down the staircase like a madman
I’m going to lose my mind if anything happens to Alora or our unborn child.
************************
“Jayce.” Reed calls calmly. I’m pacing the hallway like a lunatic. I’m even shedding tears.
They are in a really dangerous situation. Alora could lose the baby and that would not be good news for anyone.
Well… except for my enemies.
“Jayce.” Reed calls yet again and I stop pacing and turn to look at him. He swallows dryly. “Please have a seat.”
“I can’t. I can’t sit down knowing she’s in there fighting for both her life and that of the baby. I can’t.” I’m crying.
“I understand, but you have to sit down. Pacing around won’t change anything. It’ll only wear you out.” I try to reason with him. I sniffle and wipe my tears away. My eyes are as red as blood and so is my face. My hair is completely ruffled. I look like a hot mess.
“She can’t lose that baby.” I firmly declare, shaking my head.
“She won’t.”
“We can’t lose our first pregnancy. We can’t.”
“You won’t.” Reed confirms my words as he holds him by the arms and guides me to sit on a nearby chair. “You need to relax. The doctors will be out soon and when you go in to see Alora, you need to look strong for her no matter the situation. Pull yourself together.”
I bury my face in my palms and sob even harder.
Things have been going well between us for the past week. We are both very happy.
If we lose this pregnancy, everything we have struggled to build might crumble. Alora would be devastated. I would go into depression. Everything will be ruined.
“She can’t lose that pregnancy.” I cry aloud and Just then, a doctor walks out of the emergency room and Reed catches up with him. I don’t have the courage to go over and hear what he has to say. I stay seated on the chair.
“Doctor, how’s she doing?” Reed asks eagerly. The doctor pauses and looks at me.
“She’s doing alright.”
“And the baby?”
“The baby is doing just fine as well.”
My head snaps in their direction. The tears in my eyes instantly dry off as he rises to his feet and goes over to join them.
“What did you just say?”
“Both Luna Alora and the baby are out of danger and are doing just fine.” The doctor repeats his statement with a bright smile.
My heart soars and plummets at the same time. I sniffle, chuckle. Laugh. Turn around and thread my hands through my hair. A heavy sigh leaves my chest.
I almost explode with excitement.
“I want to see her.”
“Please come with me.”
“I’ll just head back to my office.” Reed says as he turns around and walks away from us.
I follow the doctor to the VIP ward Alora had been transferred to and he excuses himself to give us privacy.
“Baby…” I whisper as I pull the stool and sit by her bed. Alora weakly opens her eyes when she hears my voice.
“Alpha Kai.” She calls almost breathlessly.
“Heyyy…” I lean closer to her and gently stroke her hair. “How are you feeling?”
“My head is spinning. My vision is blurry and my mouth tastes like death.” I chuckle. She tries to do the same, but she has no strength.
“The doctor said both you and the baby are doing okay.”
“Really? I didn’t lose our baby?” Tears leak from her eyes. I smile and wipe them away.
“No you didn’t, so there’s no need for you to cry. Cheer up.” She smiles.
“I was so scared when you carried me in your arms. I thought something bad had happened to our baby.’
“I thought so too, but luckily that isn’t the case. The two of you are doing just fine.” I lean forward and place a gentle kiss on her stomach.
“Did you speak with the doctor already? Did he tell you what made me bleed all of a sudden?”
“Not yet. But I’ll summon him right now so he can tell us what went wrong.” I say and do just that and in a matter of minutes, the doctor comes into the ward with a cheerful look on his face.
“You are awake.”
“Yes Doctor.”
“Can you please tell us what happened? Why did she bleed all of a sudden? Is there a problem?”
“There is, but it isn’t something too serious. Luna Alora seems to be physically stressed and it’s taking a toll on her.. she needs a lot of bedrest. That means very minimal physical activity, otherwise she will risk having a complicated pregnancy or even a miscarriage.”
The word miscarriage makes my heart fall into my stomach.
I hate that word.
I looked at Alora and she immediately understands what’s running through my mind. Henceforth, I won’t let her lift a finger.
“No…” she starts shaking her head in denial.
“Yes.”
“No, please no. Doctor please tell him that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t even walk on my own.” She pleads. The doctor chuckles.
“Of course not. You can walk on your own. You can even go for outdoor walks. What you have to avoid is heavy lifting or strenuous activities like running and jumping. Just try to stay calm always.”
“Understood, doctor. Thank you very much. If that’s all, you can leave now. Thank you.” The doctor nods and exits the bedroom. Alora looks up at me, still shaking her head.
“No. Don’t you dare do what you are thinking of doing.”
“Will ten servants be enough?”
“Don’t be ridiculous!”
“You heard the doctor. Minimal physical activity. You need servants to run your day to activities. Alora, I’m not going to risk you losing this baby. I’m not going to let anything happen to any of you, so please, let me take care of you both.” I bring her hands to my lips and kiss them passionately.
She goes speechless.
“Just don’t exaggerate things. Please” she pleads with puppy eyes. I nod.
“I’ll try not to.” I tell her, but deep in my heart, I I know I will.”
I’d do everything in my power to keep both of them safe and out of harm.
