Jovan’S POV.
“Welcome to the Blue Pearl Pack, Alpha Jovan.” The guard who opens my seat door greets me with a warm smile. I step out of the car and stand up straight, adjusting my suit jacket as I take an inventory of the castle premises. It’s a doll house compared to my father’s castle back home. “I’ll escort you to the study where Alpha Myles is waiting to receive you.”
Waiting to receive you.
I regurgitate bile.
That low life Alpha is supposed to be out here, waiting to receive me, not waiting to receive me in his fucking study. If I wasn’t here to ask a favor from him I would’ve caused a nasty scene out here right now.
Screw him!
Two of the guards I came with accompany me into the building as the soldier leads the way to the so-called study. When we get to the door, I try to wipe off the scorn from my face and replace it with a neutral look. I need to look like I’m ready to kiss his toes for the help he will render me.
“Alpha Jovan.” He calls and rises from his chair as I walk into the office. I flash his a smile that doesn’t reach my eyes. All three guards had left the office and it’s just the two of us.
“Hello, Alpha Myles.”
“Please, make yourself comfortable.” He gestures to me to take a seat on any of the sofas and I choose the one closest to me and settle on it. “What can I offer you? wine? Whiskey? Beer? Coffee?”
“No, thank you. I’m good.”
“No way! This is the first time you are visiting my castle and I cannot not serve you something. Please. I insist. What can I offer you?” I exhale heavily, making sure to keep a neutral look despite the fact that his persistence is annoying the shit out of my pants.
“Wine it is then.”
“Cool.” He heads to his wine bar and takes out a bottle of red wine and two glasses. He comes over and serves the drink and we both toast to whatever before drinking.
“So…” He sits on the sofa across from me. “What is that pressing issue you want us to talk about?” He’s gaining tightly. I’m fighting my urge to roll my eyes as I set my glass on the table and give him an intense look.
I can trust him.
I should trust him.
He needs my help.
These things are evident, but I can’t shake off this nervous feeling gnawing at her nerves because one word to the wrong person and I’m doomed, but deep down, I know Myles isn’t the wrong person. I can tell him this. I should tell him.
“It has to do with your visit to my brother yesterday.” His jaw locks. His eyes roam over me, making my skin tingle under his scrutiny.
I’m in his territory right now. If I say something he doesn’t like, it’ll be easy for him to do away with me, so I have to tread carefully with my words. I lean closer to him.
“What about the visit?” His face has been wiped clean of any emotion. Things have become intense.
“From what I gathered, you have a crisis going on over here whereby you risk getting dethroned if you don’t provide an heir to the throne. That’s why you went to Jayce. You want to get Alora back.” He shifts uncomfortably on his seat and nods his head.
“You heard right.”
He sounds receptive. That means I’m on the right track.
“What if I told you there’s a way for you to get Alora back?” His jaw muscles tense. I nod my head.
“How?” He looks curious. I pop my knuckles and prepare to spill my deepest, darkest secret to him.
“By killing Alpha Jayce.” His eyes widen in shock. He looks around nervously to make sure we are alone in here and when he’s sure of that fact, he leans closer to me.
“Have you lost your fucking mind?” He sneers. “That’s the Supreme Alpha you just spoke about. You can’t just kill him!”
“Why not?”
“Because it’s impossible for you to do that!”
“Says whom?” He goes mute. I chuckle lightly, shaking his head. “It’s no doubt that Jayce is a very powerful man virtue of his position as Supreme Alpha. However, that doesn’t mean he is immortal. With the right plan in place, we will be able to cripple whatever defense he has and have him killed.”
“And why the hell do you want to kill him? Aren’t you two brothers?” His brows furrow as he asks that question. I roll my eyes hard.
Brother my ass.
“Step-brother.” I correct him. “We are stepbrothers and to be honest, I’m shocked you don’t know about my hatred for him. Almost everyone knows Jayce and I are not in good terms. We’ve been enemies since childhood.”
“I see.”
“Yes. And I hate the fact he’s Alpha. I’m the first son of our father, but simply because my mother wasn’t our father’s true mate, my birthright was transferred to Jayce. I want it back. I want to become the Supreme Alpha of the entire werewolf world as I should be, but I’ve noticed that I can only accomplish that goal of mine by killing Jayce.” Silence stretches for a long moment. He breaks it with a sigh, his eyes still trained on me.
“So, what you are saying is, you want me to help you fight against Jayce. To help you kill Alpha Jayce so you get the chance to become the Supreme Alpha while I have Alora to myself again. Is that is?”
“You got it right. And don’t you worry, I have a very strong and reliable ally. If you could just chip in your support, it is guaranteed that we will defeat him.” He lets out another heavy sigh, adjusting himself on his seat. He relaxes the tie on his neck with his eyes closed.
He looks convinced.
He’s going to take my deal.
After a long moment of silence, he finally clears his throat and looks at me again.
“This is a risky mission to embark on and we might likely lose our lives, but it’s worth a try. I can’t just sit back and watch those elders dethrone me. I’m ready to fight to keep my title.” A smile spreads across my lips.
I knew I was going to get him on my team.
