Jayce’s POV.
“I’ll hold the milk myself, Jared. Thank you.” I tell the guard who tries to take the jar of milk from my hand once I step out of the car. It’s seven am in the morning and I just arrived at Reed’s mansion with a jar of our favourite milk in my hand. I’ve come to see him, talk to him, drink milk with him.
Now I understand why we are both obsessed with milk.
As I walk over to the porch, I stop in my tracks when the main door swings open, revealing a very surprised Reed.
He doesn’t look like someone who died yesterday from a ghastly motor accident. There’s not a scratch on his body.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” He approaches me with a fat smile on his face. I stretch my hands out for a hug, but he stops walking and shakes his head.
“Uh uh…everyone is entitled to one hug from me for a lifetime and you got yours yesterday, so no more!”
“Bullshit! Come here!” I take on my heels towards him, but he doesn’t stay for me to catch him easily. He starts sprinting towards the door and I follow him inside. Once in, he tries to shut the door in my face, but I’m swift enough to block it with my foot and stand in the doorway. I celebrate my triumph by blinking an eye at him and he groans in frustration.
“Leave me the hell alone!”
“Give me my hug and I’ll let you be.”
“What are we? Five year olds?”
“We are twin brothers who have been separated for twenty-four years. Now, come here!” I set the jar on the floor and fly into his arms, hugging him tight even though he goes stiff in my arms.
“Time’s up!” He indicates, but I tighten my hold around him. I have to stay here for as long as I can because I have no idea when he will let me touch him again, talk less of giving him a hug. “I said time up!” He says between his teeth as he tries to push me away, but I’m stuck.
“Ten seconds.” I slur and he immediately starts the countdown. I spend the next few seconds sniffing his hair and giggling in his arms and when he gets to one, I give him a quick kiss on his forehead before stepping behind.
“No, you did not!” He has gone stiff with horror. I’m laughing like an idiot. “You didn’t just kiss my forehead.”
“I had to make good use of my last chance.”
“Get the fuck out of my house Jayce. Leave!”
“Make me.” I pick up the jar of milk and head to the kitchen. There’s no sign of any servant around here. “Where are your servants?” I ask, setting the jar on the kitchen island.
“I gave them the day off.”
“What a kind Master.” I tease. He simply shakes his head and takes out two glasses from a nearby shelf. I watch in silence as he uncorks the jar and pours milk in both glasses, pushing one towards me and sipping from the other.
“No cheers?”
“Shut the fuck up and drink your milk, Jayce!” I chuckle and drink the milk as instructed. It’s cold and delicious. I would be dead by now if I was lactose intolerant, because this milk is literally my life.
“Where’s Halle?” I ask, looking around like ill see how hanging on the wall.
“Still asleep upstairs.”
“Cool.”
“Why exactly are you here?” I set the glass on the slab and give him a piercing gaze.
“Can’t I pay my brother a visit?”
“At eight am in the morning when we’ve both got work to do?” He tilts his head to the side and examines me closely. “Spill.”
“Fine. Fine.” I raise my hands, palms facing him. “I just came to let you know that you can move into the castle. All you have to do is say the word and I’ll get a chamber ready for you. You are the son of the late Alpha Lysander. You have a place in that castle.” I explain carefully. He takes one long sip of his milk and sets the glass down. His neutral expression is back on.
The unreadable one.
“I already debunked the idea of moving in when you proposed it after my coronation as Omega.”
“That was then, now is different.”
“Jayce. I’m well aware of the fact that the castle is my home, but I’m used to this place. And you might not know this, but I have attachment issues which extend to even inanimate things. I’m too attached to this house. I can’t leave.”
Not like I was expecting a positive response anyway. I just had to bring it up regardless.
“Sure?”
“One hundred percent sure. But you can still prepare the chambers. I’ll pass by once in a while. My children will grow up there since I didn’t have the opportunity.”
“They sure will. I will give the order once I get back home.”
“Thank you.” And I want to hug him again, but I know he’ll never let me do that. “The castle is too noisy by the way and if I live that close to Jovan, I’ll kill him before this week runs out. I’m not as patient as you are.”
And I know he’s not bluffing.
I hate Jovan, but Reed hates him even more. His hatred for Jovan runs deeper than the pacific Ocean. If it weren’t for my strict orders, he would have killed Jovan already.
“Speaking of Jovan, I can bet my life he’s responsible for what happened to you.” He smirks, his gaze glued to the blank wall ahead of us.
“Or his accomplice.”
“Accomplice?” He nods his head. “Who’s his accomplice?” He flicks his gaze in my direction.
“I haven’t gathered significant information about him yet, but once I do, ill let you know.”
I’m curious.
I’m genuinely curious to know more about that accomplice, but I know he won’t tell me what I want to know until the time is right, so I simply nod my head and ask-
“So when are you moving into the castle?”
“Are you fucking kidding me right now?”
“No. You said your children will grow in the castle. That means you’ll move in eventually, so I want to know when exactly.”
“Jayce, if you are that eager to bond with me, you can move in here with me. As you can see this pace is big enough to accommodate yours and my family.” I groan in frustration and shale my head.
“You take after our mum. She was just as stubborn! Gave dad a hard time pretty much all the time.”
“What about you?”
“They call me our father’s reincarnation.”
“Wow. Good for you!”
“Is that mockery I smell?’
“I didn’t complain when you bragged!” Before I can react, he has jumped down from the island and is pacing towards the door, laughing. I don’t hold back. I take on my heels and follow him all the way through the hallway he just breached off into.
The Moon goddess knows why she separated us at birth. Our parents would’ve died earlier than they did because of heart attacks!
It feels so nice to know that I have a brother.
