Alora’S POV.
A bright smile forms on my face as I arrive downstairs and meet Halle patiently waiting for me in the living room. When the servant announced to me that she had come to me, I was so surprised and excited.
I don’t know why, but I feel like she is finally warming up to me.
I’m still waiting patiently for her to get comfortable with me, because I know she will make a great friend and now that both our men are twin brothers, it’s so cool!
“Halle.” I call enthusiastically as I approached her in the sitting area. I stand at a safe distance and watch her bow to me with a frown on my face. I want to go over and hug her, but Halle is very strict about her personal pace and the last thing I want is to get scolded by her this morning.
Baby steps.
“Good morning, Luna Alora.” She greets formally. I roll my eyes and groan in frustration as I walk closer to her.
“How many times have I told you to not address me by my title? It makes me feel old.” She chuckles lightly, but stops almost immediately.
“You’ll get used to it.”
“How about you get used to calling me Alora, instead of Luna Alora.”
“Not happening.”
“Even after it’s been discovered that both our men are not only brothers, but twin brothers? We are literally family now, Halle, you can ease on the tiles and call me Alora.” She still shakes her head in denial.
“I can clearly see where you are heading, but no, thank you. Luna Alora is the appropriate way to address you.”
“Yeah. Whatever. Suit yourself.”
“Can we please not bicker? I already heard and witnessed enough bickering between the brothers this morning.”
“You mean Reed and Jayce?”
“Who else will I be talking about? Alpha Kai showed up at Reed’s house early this morning and they both spent quality time together. When I say quality time, I mean arguing, chasing each other, Alpha Jayce forcefully hugging Reed and many other things I cannot recall. They are like babies all over again.” From the tone of voice, she’s clearly frustrated by all that she had to witness this morning. It must have been tiring. I flash her a warm smile and give a gentle pat on her back.
“We just have to get used to it, love. Those brothers are not going to stop celebrating their union anytime soon. Don’t you think it’s cute though?”
“Oh, I think it is. Alpha Jayce brings out a side of Reed even I have never been able to unlock. His playful side. I mean I saw Reed running and screaming shirtless like a five-year-old why his brother chased him around just to give him a hug. It was heartwarming to watch. I’m genuinely happy for them.”
“Me too.” There’s a dreamy smile on my face as I stare blankly at the wall ahead. I try to imagine how I’ll feel if I were to ever find out that I have a sister or brother somewhere. Someone I can lay with. Someone I can trust with my life. I’m most definitely going to be overwhelmed with happiness and naturally, my playful side will surface.
Silence stretches in the atmosphere and I turn to look at Halle whose eyes are glued to the TV, but I can tell she’s not watching it.
She’s lost in thought.
She looks worried.
“Halle.” I call calmly and she turns to look at me. “You look worried. What’s wrong?” She lets out heavy sigh and I know what she’s going to say next-
‘Nothing’
That’s why I shake my head with my brows raised firmly.
“Don’t tell me anything. I’m not going to buy that lie. I know you didn’t come here to talk about Reed and Jayce’s bickering. There’s something more. You’ve already come this far, so just let it out.” I place a comforting hand on her shoulder and she looks at me, melancholy filled eyes.
There’s something eating her up within and I pray she shares it with me.
“It’s just you know…” she shrugs her shoulders. “My relationship with Reed.”
“What about it?” I ask softly, leading the way to the sitting area where we both sit on the same sofa. My eyes have not left her face since. “Are you two having issues?”
“We aren’t. Not yet.”
“What do you mean not yet?”
“It’s about the mate issue.” Her voice splits in half as she voices the problem. She’s at the verge of bursting into tears. My heart tightens. “I promised Reed I wouldn’t bring up again, but it’s eating me up within, Luna. I’m scared.”
“Scared that he might end things with you when he finds his mate?” She vigorously nods her head and I completely understand her.
She is in a very tight spot right now, but so is Reed.
I know for sure that he’s madly in love with her and he also stands the chance of being heartbroken if she chooses to dump him later in the future.
“You do know that you’re not the only one in a tight spot, right?” She doesn’t respond. “As much as you have the fear of being abandoned by Reed once he finds his mate, I know – even though he hasn’t said it – that deep down he is heart, he’s scared you could do the same thing to him. You’re not the only one who is worried. So tell me, Halle, do you love Reed enough to reject your mate and choose to be with him when the time comes?” That’s a very difficult question, but I have a reason for asking.
If she can answer that question sincerely, then she’ll know if she needs to keep worrying or trust Reed’s words.
“Yes.” She replies with a firm nod. “Yes, I love Reed enough to reject my mate for him. He’s the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.”
“And you mean these words you just said?”
“Every one of them!”
“Good. Reed also means every word he has ever said to you about rejecting his mate to be with you. So you have to trust him. Can you do that?” She vigorously nods her head and I flash her a beaming smile.
She’s got it.
Smart girl.
“Don’t you worry. In less than no time, Reed will marry you and well become sisters-in-law. Let’s see how you are going to keep avoiding me when that happens.” Her face has turned red completely. She’s blushing like a teenager who just received a sweet compliment from her crush.
Love is a beautiful feeling.
“Thank you very much, Luna. Your words have truly made me feel relieved.”
“I’m sure you are very much aware of the fact that Reed is not a playboy. If he says he’s serious about you, then he is serious about you!”
“He has asked me to move in with him.”
“You see what I’m talking about?” She giggles shyly, nodding her head. “So stop letting negative thoughts ruin your mood. Reed is your man!”
And our conversation stretches on for the better part of the day.
