Jayce’s POV.
I’ve not been able to wrap my head around the fact that I just found out about Reed being my brother. Not my elder or younger brother, but my fucking twin brother!
We were conceived on the same day, stayed in our mother’s womb together for months and born on the same day. We were supposed to grow up together, but that was robbed from us by enemies. Things would have been a lot different if we had grown up together.
“Baby.” Alora’s calming soothing voice snaps me out of thoughts. She joins me on the bed and I turn to look at her. She has been smiling ever since we got home.
“Are you still baffled by the fact that you and Reed are brothers?”
“Literally!” I nod my head. She chuckles sweetly.
“I’m not. From the first day I saw Reed, I noticed this striking resemblance in personality between the two of you. Even your hair colour, eyes, physique. They are similar. I’m sure many people had their speculations but couldn’t voice it out because you know… it’s wild!”
“That’s true.” I’m still nodding my head. “That’s very true. People noticed, but couldn’t voice it out. Because even I found myself asking questions regarding very similar personalities and also the fact that I felt this inexplicable bond with him. It all makes sense now.”
“So…” She slicks her arms around my neck and planet feathery kisses all over my face. “Are you happy about the revelation?”
“To say I’m happy is an understatement, baby. I’m exhilarated. I have a brother and he’s not just anyone. He’s Reed!” That earns me a chuckle from her.
“Brother or not, you love Reed very much, don’t you?” She asks giggling. I give her a very serious look.
“Of course I do. I love Reed very much. But he can never know I said that.” Her chuckle turns into a howl of laughter. I watch in amusement as she laughs her heart out, falling on the bed and rising again.
She’s such a baby!
“What is so funny? You better not tell on me!” Now she’s wheezing. She can’t breathe.
What the fuck?
“You know, I don’t get what’s so funny!” I want to keep frowning, but her laughter is so contagious that I find myself laughing with her. This girl will be the end of me.
“Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. And I’m very positive Reed feels the same about you. You guys love yourself so much, you can’t even hide it.”
“What the hell do you mean by that? We are always bickering!”
“In a cute way that tells people you two are crazy about each other and would do anything to protect each other.”
“CRAZY ABOUT EACH OTHER?” I literally scream. She jumps up from the bed and starts running away, laughing. “Crazy about each other? Are you fucking kidding me?”
“If I wasn’t your mate, I would say you love Reed more than you love me…”
“Oh, young lady. that statement just landed you in a lot of trouble!” I rise from the bed and start following her, but I freeze on my third step forward when a gentle knock sounds on the room door.
“I have to get that!” She runs to the door and opens it up before I can protest. A servant in uniform comes to view. I quickly turn away so she doesn’t see my flushed red face.
“Luna Alora. Alpha Jayce’s presence has been requested by Alpha Jovan. He’s waiting in the living room downstairs.” The maid announces and I quickly spin around. My eyes meet with Alora’s before she looks back at the maid. She dismisses her and closes the door. The atmosphere is tense.
“Jovan is here.” She tells me. I clear my throat and nod.
“He’s definitely here to talk about Reed.” I pick up my jacket from the sofa and put it on. She walks over to me with a worried look on her face.
“Is he going to cause trouble?” My right hand finds its way to her cheek and I gently caress it, smiling.
“He’s going to throw a tantrum. That’s all he ever does.” I lean closer and capture her lips in a warm, pleasant kiss before backing away. “I’ll be right back.”
“Okay.” I walk past her and four steps later, I whirl and look at her, smiling.
“What?”
“We’ll pick off from where we stopped a while ago. I’ll follow you till the end of the world!”
“Can you just let go?”
“After teasing me? No baby. I know I’m an Alpha, but I can be petty too by not letting such things slide.”She grows in frustration. I exit the bedroom with a big smile on my face, but it disappears the moment I close the door behind me and recall that I’m going to face my very annoying step-brother called Jovan. I head towards the staircase with a scorn on my face and by the time I arrive at my living room and see him, my face is dark with irritation.
“What do you want?” Is the first question I ask once I take the last step into the living room. He rises from the sofa he’s sitting on and walks towards me.
“What’s this blasphemous news I’m hearing about Reed being your twin brother?”
I said it.
“What’s blasphemous about that news, if I may?”
“It’s nothing but a lie!”
“Really? How are you so sure?”
“Because… because…” he looks around, short of words to say. He finally looks back at me, fuming. “This can’t be! Reed cannot be your brother! I won’t accept that!”
“No one needs your approval on this issue, Jovan. It’s none of your goddamn business, so relax. Reed is my brother, not yours. I don’t get why you are getting so worked up!”
“He’s lying!” He keeps insisting. I exhale heavily and take two steps closer to him. We are only a few inches away from each other and the Moon goddess knows how much I’m trying to hold myself back from punching that arrogant mouth of his. He’s always spewing rubbish!
“Why? Are you scared?” A smirk crawls up my lips. He gives me a disgusted look.
“And why will I be scared?”
“Because there are two Alphas now. Even if you take me down, you’ll still have Reed to deal with.” I flash him a smile that doesn’t reach my eyes. He takes a step back and tries to chuckle, but fails woefully.
He’s so hurt. So shocked. So scared.
I almost pity him.
“You won’t win this war!” He finally lashes out at me. His words are supposed to scare me, but they do the opposite. They are blankets, wrapping around my body, keeping me warm, comforting me.
I never want him to back out from this plan of his.
He’s my half brother, but just like his hatred for me, my hatred for him knows no bounds and I look forward to the day I’ll stop his beating heart.
Jovan will die by my hands. That, I swear.
“I know you caused Reed’s accident. You slit his throat. You killed him, but he’s back and I trust him to make your life miserable in this pack from this day on. Heaven forbid that I interfere. Enjoy!”
“You will pay for this!” He storms out of my chambers and I fight my urge to laugh.
Stupid boy.
Your greed will take you to your grave.
