Reed’s POV.
I cheated death.
I’m not supposed to be alive. I’m not supposed to be in the back seat of my car, being driven back to my house in the land of the living. I’m supposed to be dead.
After that accident, I felt like every bone in my body was broken. I was practically dragging myself out of the car so I wouldn’t get burnt to ashes when the car exploded and that’s when the strange man showed up and slit my throat.
He wasn’t someone I know, but I’m positive he was sent by someone I know to kill me. Once everything went black, I found myself in a strange land and that’s when I knew my time on earth was over.
I cried.
I begged, but I knew none of that would matter, but to my greatest surprise, my pleas were heard and a giant gate was opened for me to go back and I did and so here I am, back in my father’s pack, alive and sarcastic as I’ve always been.
My brother Jayce is still trying to understand everything that just happened and what I told him and I’ve come home to rest.
I turn to look at Halle whose gaze is glued to the road ahead. She hasn’t spoken a word to me since we got into the car. After I spoke with Alpha Jayce, she came to see me. Her crying state broke my heart and she was about to apologise to me, but I stopped and I asked her to lay down with me. Since then, she hasn’t even looked me in the face and I’m worried because she’s probably balming and torturing herself for what happened to me.
“We are home.” Patrick announces from the passenger seat as the driver parks in the driveway of my compound. We all step out of the car and Halle rushes to me. Her heart sinks when I see her bulging eyes.
She keeps crying.
“Are you okay to walk?’
“I am okay to do anything I want, Halle.” I tell her softly. She nods and steps out of my way. I follow Patrick’s lead to the door, but stop midway when I notice that Halle isn’t following us. I turn to look at her. “Why aren’t you coming?”
“I shouldn’t.” She shakes her head. I signal Patrick to go in and turn to face her fully.
“What do you mean by that?”
“I… I feel guilty for what happend to you, Reed.” Tears pool down her eyes. “I can’t bring myself to stay here with you when I know all this happened because of me. I have to go. I shouldn’t be here with you.” I sigh heavily.
“If I walk into that house and you’re not by myside, I will walk back out and go for another ride. Whoever did this most definitely has another trailer on standby just in case and I bet you the Moon goddess won’t be too generous to give me a third chance at life. So, if you love me, follow me inside.” I walk on. A smile tugs at the corner of my lips when I hear her approaching footsteps.
“Is there anything you need, Omega Reed?” Patrick asks once we are all in the house.
“Yes. Food. I’m famished.”
“Should I make…” Halle starts talking but I cut her off.
“No. The cooks will do that. I need you upstairs, in my room.” Her cheeks heat up as she looks away. Patrick clears his throat and I can see him smothering a smile.
Ha!
“We’ll be in my room.” I tell him and lead the way to the staircase. Halle and I head to my bedroom in total silence.
“Are you still not going to feel free around me now that we’re in my bedroom?” She takes long strides over to me and wraps her arms around my neck, her body crashing into mine as she lets out a big sob. She cries like a baby in my arms and my bones melt.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to start a fight with you. If I didn’t annoy you, you wouldn’t have left the house and… and you wouldn’t have died and… I… I’m sorry.” I circle the nape of her neck with one hand and her waist with another. The hand on her neck gently caresses it, up to her hair and strokes it.
“It’s okay, baby.”
“It’s not okay. If the Moon goddess didn’t give you a second chance, you’d be dead by now and it would have been my fault!”
“Hey…” I pull her away just enough to look at her face. It’s completely drenched with tears and sweat.
“No. That’s not true. You didn’t put a truck on stand by to run me over anytime they saw me driving late at night. You didn’t send a man to slit my throat. This was all planned, baby and all I needed to do was leave the house for whatever reason at night. None of this is, or would’ve been your fault!”
“I’m so happy you’re alive. Reed I don’t know what I’d do without you. I can’t live without you. I need you.” She cups my face with her hands and looks at me with searching eyes. “You can’t die.”
“I won’t die.” My voice is heavy with conviction and I connect my lips with her. I kiss her like it’s my last and from now on, this is how I’ll be kissing her.
Like it’s my last.
I will make love to her like it’s my last.
Her gentle moan slips into my mouth as my tongue digs into hers, claiming her mouth as mine and making her understand how much I’m grateful to be here with her again.
By the time I break the kiss, we are both breathless and panting and I want more. I want to rip off that pretty dress she has on and fuck her like there’s no tomorrow, because who knows if there is, even.
“Baby.” My hand goes to her jaw and my thumb grazes her cheeks. Blood rushes from my head to my cock when she tilts her head to get more of my touch.
Fuck yeah!
“Yes.” She whispers. It turns me on.
Her whisper fucking turns me on.
“Henceforth, can we not talk about the fact that we are not mates? What happened to me today made me realise that life is too short and the only thing we can do about that fact, is by enjoying every moment of what we have with the time given to us. I don’t know how much time I have left, neither do you, but I want to live it with you, Halle. You and no other girl. So please, if you love me, live yours with me. We can be happy together Halle. I’m sure of that!”
“I realised that too and I’m sorry for always bringing it up. I want to be with you Reed. Today, tomorrow and forever. So from now on, I’ve decided to live one day at a time, with you.”
“That’s my girl.” I give her a quick kiss on her forehead and take her back in my arms.
She’s mine.
