Reed’S POV
The entire hospital goes into a frenzy when I arrive with Alpha Jayce’s limp wolf on my back. He’s immediately taken into the emergency ward and guards have to block people from swarming into the hospital just to know what happened to their Alpha.
The entire pack is in panic.
The moment this news reaches Alora, she’s going to lose her mind, that’s why i mindlinked Halle to take her home the moment I heard about the attack.
The next two hours go by with me pacing up and down the hallway like a madman. It has been blocked out from every other person and the doctors are working on Alpha Jayce in the emergency ward.
I hope he’s fine.
He has to be fine.
Nothing can happen to him.
I need him. Alora needs him. Everyone in this pack needs him!
I sit on a nearby chair and bury my face in my hands, trying hard not to break into tears.
“Omega Reed.” A voice calls and I immediately snap my head up. All the hair on my body stays erect when I see a doctor standing before me.
“Doctor.” My voice is no more than a whisper. I’m exhausted and the only thing that will give me energy right now is good news about my brother.
“How is he? Please tell me he is alive.” I’m almost crying. The doctor breaks into a wide smile.
“Alpha Jayce is very much alive and kicking. He sustained several serious injuries ranging from bites, to broken bones, he’s the Supreme, he’s healing really fast. All the bruises have healed and his bones will take some time, but he’ll be fine soon. He’s awake and he wants to see you.” I quickly rise to my feet and sniffle tears.
“Please take me to him right now.” The doctor nods and leads the way.
I cannot even begin to describe the happiness in my heart right now.
He survived. He’s alive. He didn’t leave me alone in this world.
My brother is alive!
When I get into the ward, my heart jumps out of my body when I see Alpha Jayce sitting upright on the bed, looking like a mummy with bandages wrapped around his arms and torso. There’s not a single bruise on his body like the doctor had explained.
He looks almost better than I thought he would and I’m happy.
“Thank you very much, doctor. You can leave us now.” The doctor nods and exits the ward.
I take calm, calculated steps over to Alpha Jayce who’s staring at me with a blank look on his face.
“Alpha Jayce. Can you see me? Can you hear me?” I ask carefully as I stand by his side.
“Lean closer.” He calmly instructs and it sounds off, but I obey and to my greatest shock, he wraps his strong arms around me, engaging me in a tight, suffocating hug, but I know what that hug means.
It means he’s grateful to me for showing up and taking him away from that bloody battlefield.
“I thought about all the little pups I’m still to groom. I thought about the helpless subjects who will be forced to serve my tyrant brother. I thought about my mate, the life we haven’t even started living. I thought about you, my brother from another mother. My best friend. I thought I was going to die and leave everything and each and everyone one of you behind, but you showed up like always and took me away from there. You saved my life Reed. Words will never be enough to express how thankful I am for what you did. I owe you my life.” Tears prick the back of eyelids and I blink several times to stop them from breaking free.
I don’t want to cry.
There’s no need for me to cry.
Men don’t cry in moments like this. They say a few words and brush it off.
I quickly disengage myself from the hug and plaster a fake frown on my face.
“Thank you, Reed, would have been enough. You didn’t have to give a speech. It makes me feel weird.” I sit on the stool next to his bed and give him a closer look.
“You look like a work of art.” I chuckle calmly. “Alora would be terrified to see you in this condition.”
“Please don’t tell me you told her?”
“I would never! On my way to the woods when you called, I ordered Halle to take her home and make sure she gets no information on what’s going on out here. She mindlinked me a while ago to tell me that Alora was asleep. She doesn’t know about what happened.”
“Thank you very much. I’m going to tell her eventually, but I need to get better. By nightfall, these bandages will be off and more bones would’ve healed, so it’d be safer for me to see her at that time.” I calmly nod my head.
I completely understand what he’s talking about.
If I were in his shoes, I wouldn’t want my mate to know about this.
“Yeah. That’s true. Do you need anything? Are you hungry?”
“How did you know?”
“I just figured.” I want to rise to my feet, but he holds my hand.
“Where are you going?”
“To get you something to eat.”
“Mindlink a guard or servant or anyone else to do that. I need you here, by my side. Don’t go.” I pause, look at him hard. He’s not joking. He’s serious. I calmly nod my head and plant my butt back on my seat
I need you here, by my side. Don’t go.
His words keep replaying in my mind.
I close my eyes and mindlink one of the castle guards to tell the chefs to pack up some food for him and when I open my eyes again, my heart flutters when I see his hand on mine.
His eyes are closed.
He’s taking a quick nap. I try to pull my hand away, but he holds onto it.
He can feel it too.
He doesn’t know, but he can feel our sibling bond.
Blood is indeed thicker than water.
