Reed’S POV.
I have never, ever, in my life invited a girl to my house, but I just did so.
I just invited Halle to my house. Not directly, but under the motive that I wanted her to fill me in on her progress with Tania.
That isn’t something that warranted me to invite her over to my house. I could have called so we discussed it over the phone, but for reasons I do not know, I had to invite her over.
It didn’t end there. I even told my cook to make dinner just in case. I showered earlier than usual and I put on my favourite cologne.
I can’t believe I’m doing this for a girl who isn’t my mate.
My doorbell rings and my heart drops into my stomach.
She is here.
Halle is here.
“Patrick, please get the door.” I instruct my butler and he goes to get the door. A thunderbolt strikes in the clouds outside and Halle jumps into the house, afraid. I almost laugh.
For a girl who claims to be very tough, being scared of thunder and lightning is absurd.
“Good evening.” She greets Patrick respectfully, almost bowing to him and that makes me smile. Patrick returns her greeting and walks her to the sitting area where I’m seated.
“Omega. Reed, your guest.” He presents her to me and leaves. I look at Halle and notice that she isn’t looking at me. She’s looking around the Living Room, totally amazed by what she’s seeing
I relax on my seat and watch her admire my sophisticated living room and my heart is swelling with pride. It’s been a while since someone did this.
Wait.
It’s been a while since I let anyone into my house in the first place.
“Are you done looking around?” I ask and she quickly looks at me.
“Oh…” She exclaims. “I’m so sorry. I’m just… I’m just really amazed by the view. Not that I expected anything less. You look like someone who has got good taste in everything.”
“Do I?” I ask, amused. She nods her head and bows.
“Good evening, Omega Reed.”
I’m touched.
She’s got manners.
Good manners.
I like her.
“Good evening Halle.”
“Good. Now that we’re done with the formalities and admiration, can I dive into the topic?”
“By all means.” Her face immediately darkens. The soft look she had on is gone and is now replaced with a dangerous frown.
What the heck!
What did I do wrong?
“Try to “corner” her my ass! Do you have any idea what kind of embarrassment that statement of yours put me in yesterday?” She asks, furious and I’m confused.
This evening started too softly for it to suddenly become so rough.
“Halle, calm down.”
“Don’t tell me to calm down.” She’s not raising her voice. She’s not talking calmly either.
She doesn’t look angry, nor does she look happy.
I cannot read how she’s feeling.
Fuck!
“Tell me what happened.” She huffs and folds her arms over her breasts.
Her breasts…
Jesus Reed, Focus!
She crosses her arms over her breasts and trains her eyes on me.
“Yesterday, I decided to take your advice and try to corner Tania, but things turned out so bad! I tried to bad mouth Alora to get her reaction and the way she reacted was not what I was expecting. She berated me for badmouthing our Luna and now I feel like shit everytime I see her because she thinks I hate Luna Alora, but I can’t tell her the reason why I had to ask her that question because it’ll complicate things and ….” I’m smiling in amusement as I watch and listen to her rant about her embarrassing encounter with Tania.
She’s ranting.
She’s a girl after all.
She’s cute.
When she’s done, she heaves out a deep breath and casts me a murderous glare.
I want to laugh, but I know I won’t see the light of the day if I do so. Alpha Jayce needs me. I can’t die now, so I purse my lips and swallow the laughter that keeps trying to escape my mouth.
I clear my throat and look at her frowning face.
“Please have a seat.” I gesture for her to sit down and she does that. Her burning gaze is still plastered on my face.
“So, what you are trying to tell me is that from your encounter with Tania, you can confirm that she is not involved in this. That she actually likes Luna Alora and she’s serving her with all her heart. No other motives?”
“I think so. I mean, I work with those two everyday. I see how they interact. Tania couldn’t possibly be pretending.”
“What if she is? Are you going to give up on your first trial?”
“I’m not going to do that again.”
“No you won’t. You are not going to directly ask her to badmouth Luna Alora. That was a very dumb move, just so you know. You are a smart girl, Halle, you can do better than that.” Her shoulders sag. Her face falls and she lets out an exasperated sigh.
She’s finally calm again.
I’ve never understood how it’s possible for girls to switch their moods as fast as they do.
Just within ten minutes, Halle has expressed amazement, fury and disappointment.
How do they do that?
“Look, Halle.” Her eyes meet mine. I drown in her charming emerald green eyes. “I know why I’m asking you to pay close attention to Tania. Don’t ask me why, I won’t tell you. Just do as I say and I promise you won’t be disappointed by the results.”
“What if I am?”
“Then I’ll owe you a lot for your time and effort wasted.”
“That’s fair enough.” She rises from her seat. “If that’s all then, I’ll like to take my leave.”
Tell her to eat with you.
My subconscious screams as I watch her rise to her feet.
“Have you had dinner?” I blurt out. Her eyes widen in surprise. My heart sinks when she nods her head.
“Yeah. I have.”
“Don’t you have any space left for more? I haven’t had dinner yet and I’d be grateful to share my meal with you.”
“Oh.. no. I’m sorry, but apart from the fact that I don’t eat after eight pm, it’s getting late right now and I have to head back to my apartment.” I look at my wrist watch and she’s right. It’s almost ten pm.
It’s getting late.
“Miss Halle, it’s actually storming out there right now and reports have come for people to avoid using the roads in the next few hours.”
My butler announces. Horror spread on Halle’s face as she looked from me to my butler.
I want to sing out of excitement.
“Great timing.” She murmurs to herself and slumps back on her seat.
“You must be tired after a long day.”
“You have no idea.”
“Then spend the night here.”
“What?” She looks at me with horror -filled eyes and starts shaking her head. “No. I can’t. I won’t.” I look at my butler who is giving me a side eye and smiling weirdly.
I look away from him and clear my throat.
“It won’t stop raining anytime soon and I won’t let you leave this house at midnight. So don’t be stubborn. Come with me, I’ll show you to a guest room where you can rest.” She sits on the chair for a long time and I patiently wait for her to make up her mind. When she finally rises to her feet, I smile internally.
Mind you, I don’t have any naughty thoughts. I’m just happy that she’ll be spending the night in my house.
I don’t know why.
If Alpha Jayce hears about this, he’ll scream.
I take Halle to one of my guest rooms upstairs.
“There you go.” I lead her into the bedroom.
Everything is intact.
A rumbling thunderbolt strikes in the sky, making Halle jump in fear and cover her face with her hands.
Cute.
“Are you sure you’ll be fine by yourself?” I ask, concerned and she quickly nods her head.
“Yes, I will.”
“If you get too scared at night, ring my cell and I’ll come keep you company. Good night Halle.” I exit the bedroom. I close the door behind me and lean against it, letting out a heavy sigh.
It’s obvious.
It’s definitely obvious that I’m making a move on her.
I’m a hopeless romantic.
