Jayce’S POV.
Lunas are definitely built differently.
My mum used to be as stubborn and strong willed as Alora when she was alive. It frustrated my dad all the time and back then, I didn’t understand why he was always complaining about the way she goes about doing things, but now, I completely understand.
Alora was injured.
Yes, her healing abilities are rapid and a lot more effective than that of an average werewolf, but that doesn’t mean she’s fit enough to ride on with rigorous training. I tried explaining that to her this morning, but she didn’t listen to me.
She wanted to go for training and she did!
“She’s going to be the end of me!” I groan as I sign the last report card on my table and put aside the pile of report cards I’ve been singing since morning.
I’m done signing and remarking on the kindergarten report cards and now I have to start with the various grades.
I want to get all that done as soon as possible, so I take up my phone and call Reed to bring the report cards for the next level and end the call. As I lean against my chair, Alora comes to mind again.
She called me Jayce.
She called me by my name and I can’t explain how that made me feel.
As usual, she caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting that. I almost sang when I heard her call my name. It felt surreal.
Alora will never cease to amaze me.
I love her.
I only stop thinking about her when I hear a knock on my office door. The door opens and Reed walks in with a carton in his hands and heads over to my table.
“There you go.” He says, dumping the carton on my table and rubbing his hands together.
I look at them and sigh. Once this is done, I’ll have eleven more grades to go.
Wow!
“Thank you for bringing them over.”
“You are welcome. Do you still not want to make an electronic signature?” He asks with creased brows. To be very honest, I’m seriously considering taking his advice. I know seeing my signature and remarks on report cards made the children very happy, but it’s very stressful and time consuming on my part. I can think of another way to give them remarks that does not require me sitting down for hours and staring at numbers written on papers.
Another heavy sigh escapes my chest and I look up at Reed.
He nods his head.
“No one is going to strike you dead. The world is developing. The pack is developing. Technology is meant to make life easier for all of us. Use it. Your Alpha ancestors will not be disappointed in you.” Those are some very strong words of encouragement. Everything he just said is correct.
There has been a lot of advancement in technology. I don’t have to keep living in the past.
“Alright then.” I sit upright and place my hands on the table, intertwining my fingers. I’ve heard you. This year will be the last year I’ll be doing this. From the next academic year, I’ll prepare a personal stamp and an electronic signature that will be sent to the various schools and we’ll think of the various ways to make the children happy.”
“That sounds like a good plan.” He’s nodding his head as he opens the carton and starts taking out the report cards from it and placing them on the table. I’m looking at him, completely fascinated. He doesn’t have to do that, he knows, but he always does it anyway.
The way Reed serves me is different.
It’s not like an Omega serving his Alpha.
It’s not like a subordinate serving his Superior.
It’s like a younger brother serving his elder brother. He grumbles most of the time, but he does it with love, care and diligence.
He’s always there when I need him. Even when I don’t need him, he sticks around. He gives me a listening ear whenever I come to him to pour out my frustrations. I can boldly tap my chest and say out loud that Reed has got my back.
He’s like the little brother I do not have and I love him.
Yes.
I love Reed like he was my brother.
If Jovan and Reed were to be in a life threatening danger and I only have to save one person, I’m sorry dad, but I’ll save Reed.
“There you go.” He picks up the carton from the table and holds it. Get on with your work… oh…” He points to the door, but his gaze is glued to my face. “Alora.”
“What about Alora?”
“I thought she had an injured ankle, why did I see her going for training this morning?” He asks with a hint of concern in his voice. I sigh as I rub my forehead with my fingers.
He patiently waits for me to get done with my sighing and muttering. When I look up again, his eyes are still trained on me.
“She’s stubborn! We had a talk this morning about the issue. I advised her to stay home for at least three days and rest properly before riding on with the training, but she blatantly refused. She finally left for the training. Now I’m regretting why I even made her start that ridiculous activity. I’m capable of giving her all the protection she needs.”
“Calm down, Hercules. We know you are the strongest being in this world right now, but the girl needs to be able to stand up for herself too. And just so you know, her insisting on going to training despite the condition of her ankle isn’t stubbornness. She’s a fighter. She’s determined to learn what she has to learn and she’s resilient. Those are all qualities of a badass Luna. We don’t deserve her.”
And that’s Reed for you.
One minute he’s calling Alora a crybaby and the next, he’s telling me we don’t deserve her because she’s a badass Luna.
Right now I’m speechless. I don’t know what to say to him so I’m simply looking at him like he’s preaching a sermon.
I am, however, happy that he now likes her.
“Well…” he clears his throat when he notices I have nothing to say to him. “That said. I better take my leave now. I have to…” his words are interrupted by a knock on the door. I give the order for the person to come and the door opens. Lloyd steps in, I don’t know why, but I look at Reed and I’m just in time to catch him sighing and rolling his eyes at the sight of Lloyd.
What in the name of the Moon goddess is going on between these two. They are never on good terms with each other.
The tension in the atmosphere whenever they are in the same room is suffocating!
“Call me if you need anything.” Reed tells me and leaves my office at the speed of light.
“Good day, Alpha.” Lloyd bows respectfully. I nod, giving him a careful look.
“Good day to you, Lloyd. Before you tell me why you are here, I would like to know something.” His brows crease.
“And what could that be?”
“What’s this tension I sense between you and Reed? Why are you guys not on good terms? Who started the problem?” His jaws twitch as he gives me a hard glare. It’s like I touched the wrong nerve by mentioning his feud with Reed.
“There’s no tension between Reed and I. We are on very good terms.”
Liar, liar pants on fire.
I want to sing those words to him, but I decide against it.
He’s lying. I know. He knows I know he just told me a lie.
They are both full grown adults and I’m sure they can resolve whatever issue it is they have. It’ll be best for me not to intervene until things get out of hand.
With that final judgement, I push the topic at the back of my mind and look at Lloyd.
“I must have judged wrongly then. Why are you here?” That’s when he steps forward with a file in his hand.
I hope they resolve their problem soon.
