Olivia’s POV
There was silence in the car, and we continued to drive. I snuggled close to Andre and watched Pierre and Sephora. She seemed closed and distant, but Pierre was doing his best to engage her in a few discussions.
“So, what hobbies do you engage in outside of physical combat?”
“I have none. My job is to guard the Alpha and Luna and train the Luna.”
Pierre chuckled nervously.
“Speaking of training. You were really good in your sparring match with the Alpha.”
Immediately Pierre said those words, she became taunt and crumbled.
“I should never have thought that I could take on the Alpha of the pack. Forgive me, Alpha.”
She turned around and managed a bow. Pierre looked at her in shock while Andre and I looked at her in confusion.
“Come off it, Sephora. It is nothing. However, I was considering a change of plans.”
All eyes turned to Andre, and curiosity hung like a cloud.
“I think that we should stay at Jonas’ house for the day.”
Everyone gasped at the change of plans. I was even more speechless. Why did he now want to stay at Jonas’ place?
“Andre?”
“I know that it sounds off coming from me, but I think it would sound rude for us to reject their invitation. I propose that we stay there for a day, and then we can find a hotel to lodge in in the meantime.”
I was still confused, but I was happy that Andre was settling into Jonas’ family’s generosity. I was still slightly uncomfortable. I couldn’t seem to get the image of Lilian’s lustful face out of my mind.
I didn’t want to imagine her even three feet next to Andre.
The jealousy inside of me grew, and my face and ears became red and hot.
“… We shall have the guards divided so that we can cover as much ground as possible.”
“Yes, Alpha. We have also dispatched the secret team to search for more information…”
It was then that I was pulled from my brooding jealousy.
“… excellent. I expect that they will get to us…”
“Hold on,” I said, cutting in, confused. “Secret team? What secret team?”
Andre gave a light chuckle and pulled me closer to his side. I still couldn’t understand why he was smiling. What was this secret team about?
“Andre…”
“Before we started the journey, I took a small section of our elite guards and sent them ahead of us earlier to find information about your dad. I don’t intend for us to stay here very long, and we need to cover as much ground as possible.”
I was impressed with Andre, and I couldn’t help but feel my heart swell with affection and adoration. He had every little detail thought off.
I felt so happy and slightly guilty at the same time. He had been sick and supportive of the entire journey. I couldn’t believe I yelled at him and told him he never prioritised my needs.
It was as if he had read my mind. He pulled me into his embrace, and I snuggled close to his chest. He kissed my forehead and leaned close to my ear.
“You don’t have to feel bad, Olivia. Our argument was in the past, and I have forgiven you. You don’t have to worry about anything. I love you.”
Hearing those words from him chased away all my negativity. I snuggled closer to him, and my mind felt like it was skipping in a meadow with all the flowers in bloom.
He nestled in his embrace and watched Pierre drive calmly as he tried to make small talk with Sephora. Something about their interaction seemed adorable. Maybe they would…
No. It was highly improbable. But it was nice to see them getting along, and it was especially comforting to see Sephora talk nicely and bark orders at me.
After a while, I felt Andre move around a bit. I looked at him and caught him taking a book out of his bag. He opened it, placed it on his lap, and began to read.
I was silent and seemed to take pleasure in watching his mesmerizing green eyes dart across the page.
I soon became interested in the book and tried to read a few words, but they seemed to be written in a different language.
“What are you reading about?”
My question pulled Andre from the depths of the book’s pages, and he gave me a small smile.
“Nothing much. I finally found a book with extensive information about the descendants of Selene, and I’m reading about it.”
I peered into the book again and still seemed confused about the language. I just looked like a bunch of scribbles that went back and forth across the paper.
“What language is this?”
He smirked.
“Ancient Lycan. It is a very old werewolf language, and only a few wolves read it, and even fewer can still write it.”
I looked at the book in awe, impressed by the elegant swirls on the paper. Although the writing seemed like gibberish, something about it spoke of mystery and elegance.
“Could you read it to me?”
Andre kissed me softly on my forehead and pulled me closer. He placed the book on my lap and began to read.
His deep, sonorous voice struck chords in my head and heart. Each word seemed to be spoken with a melody. His voice made the words dance off from the page and they hung in the air.
The car was silent, and I could tell that Pierre and Sephora also enjoyed his calm and soothing voice.
Slowly and steadily, my eyes began to droop. My mind was laid to rest, and I felt at peace, like a ship that had bobbed calmly on the sea.
I barely understood what he was saying, but I enjoyed listening him to read.
It didn’t take long before my mind became dark and quiet, and Andre’s melodic voice faded away, leaving tranquillity in its place.
