Olivia’s POV
“Jonas, I am so glad that you are here.”
My mouth clamped shut immediately after I said those words. I remembered how tense our argument was and this was the first time we were talking ever since that day. I had no idea how he felt about me.
A thick silence hung between us, and I decided to brush away the pleasantries and jump right into business. The smile on my face disappeared, and I stood up straight and faced him.
“I really wasn’t expecting to see you here, Olivia. I actually thought that I would see Andre.”
“Andre is resting, so I am standing in for him for the day, I said stiffly, trying my best not to show emotion.”
“Oh, isn’t that sweet of you? It did look like the big man needed some rest.”
I said nothing and cleared my throat.
“Anyway, I actually wanted Pierre to get you. We have made up our minds and we are leaving for Elvis Pine in two days. I simply wanted to know if you were still coming with us or if you were just going to follow us half the way and go back to your friend’s pack.”
His face contorted in confusion.
“Go back to my friend’s park? Like hell, I would do that. I’m coming with you, Olivia. We started the journey together, and it would be rude for me to stop halfway. I said I was going to help you, and I meant every word of it.”
I felt warm and fuzzy. I was glad that Jonas still hadn’t changed his mind even after our argument; I was glad that he was coming with us.
I watched as his expression became solemn and moody, and he walked closer to my desk.
“Olivia, I actually didn’t know how to tell you this. It’s been bothering me for some time now, and I guess that now is as good a time as any to tell you.”
My heart began to beat rapidly as anticipated what he was going to say.
He walked up to me and was soon standing in front of my desk, and we were both gazing at each other nervously.
“Olivia, I just wanted to say how sorry I was for everything that I said to you. I was being a jerk. I understand that you missed your mate, and Andre did good by coming to find you. It was wrong for me to judge you like that. I see the way he is around you and how defensive and protective he is of you, and I’m actually happy that you have something solid going on, and it’s blossoming into something beautiful. I shouldn’t have let my anger about the trip get in the way.
“I just thought that you were getting sidetracked by him and were losing focus on the main goal. But I understand now that it was all for your own good. We may not have been talking, but I have been seeing health personnel moving in and out of the mansion quite often, and I did catch a little gossip from the maids, and they said that you were a little under the weather. I am happy that Andre is taking good care of you and that he always has your interests at heart. I am just really sorry for the things that I said to you.”
My heart was racing, and staring into his golden eyes made butterflies flutter in my stomach. His voice was smooth, soft, and sincere.
I felt my eyes water, but I listened to everything he said. Inside me felt warm and fuzzy, and I only wished that Andre was here so that he could see how good of a person Jonas really was.
“Jonas, it’s okay.”
“No, Olivia, it’s not okay. I am determined to make it up to you. I have been doing some searching myself and was able to get in contact with my family at Elvis Pine. They helped me look around and ask some questions, and they were able to find a guy who knew your father, Kyle Gray, while he was alive. I told them to keep looking out for anything else that might help us. Hopefully, we should be hearing from them soon.”
My eyes began to water, and it didn’t take long for tears to start rolling down my cheeks.
I wiped my face with my sleeve and turned to look at Jonas again.
“Jonas, you really didn’t have to go through all that just for me.”
“No, Olivia. You’re wrong about that. I owe you much more, and I really hope that I can make it up to you. I was an idiot even after you managed to convince Andre to let me stay here. I should have respected you and your mate and your decisions…”
I didn’t let him finish his statement, and I threw my arms around his neck, pulling him into a hug.
I nestled into his chest, and I felt his arms wrap around me and pull me closer to him.
He smelled sweetly a fresh mango and cinnamon, and my nostrils couldn’t help but enjoy the scent as I breathed it in.
“Jonas, you really don’t have to apologise. I understand that things were rocky between us, and you were only looking out for me. You knew that finding my father was one of the most important things to me, and you just wanted to keep me on track. I really have no hard feelings against you, and you really have no idea how happy I am that you are still deciding to join us. As soon as Andre wakes up, I will let him…”
The door burst open, and the noise made me jump in fright. I disentangled myself from Jonas’ arms.
I turned and saw Andre standing at the door. A dark shadow seemed to be over his face.
“Andre…”
