Olivia’s POV
“I… I am… a descendant of Selene?”
I still couldn’t comprehend what the scientists were saying. What were they talking about? I was just Olivia. I was as regular as any werewolf. There was no way that I was a descendant of the Moon Goddess. Shouldn’t I have been able to tell that there was something mystical or magical about me? It was the Moon Goddess we were talking about here.
“we assume that you are. You are a rare breed of wolf if the legends and myths that we heard are true.”
Andre slammed his hand on the table, and the lid noise nearly made me topple over in fear.
“Who are the Descendants of Selene? What is going on here?”
The scientists trembled slightly as they saw Andre’s impatient glare.
“We already told you, Sir. They are a rare…”
“I heard that part. I mean, ‘who’ are they? Where can we find them? What can they do?”
The leader of the research team straightened up a little, and his demeanour relaxed slightly.
“That is what we don’t know, Alpha. We are scientists. The mythical aspects of our biology aren’t something we specialise in. We aren’t historians. But I do know that the descendants of Selena are passed down from parent to child. It is actually very rare in a generation, and sometimes, the gene is never passed down. That is why no one has heard of them until now.”
I stood up from the desk and walked up to the leader of the scientists. He bowed low to me, and the closer I got, the more bent over he became. His colleagues did the same, and I felt a cocktail of fear, anxiety, and excitement.
“What are you saying, Dr.?”
“What I’m saying, your Majesty… I mean… Luna is that your parents are the ones in the best position to tell you about your special trait. I assume that Nicole is of help?”
I shook my head.
“Nicole isn’t my real mother. She is my adoptive mother.”
The lead scientist gave a nervous chuckle and apologised profusely.
“Forgive me, Luna. It nearly slipped my mind. Well, do you have any way to contact your real parents? Does Nicole have a name or number to give you that might aid in your search?”
I had flashbacks of when I caught Nicole in the basement, confessing that she wasn’t my real mother. She said that they didn’t say anything except ask them to take care of me and…
“Wait! I think I know something that can help. Nicole said that there was a blanket in my basket that had the insignia of a wolf pack. Maybe if we find it and bring it here, we can use it to track my heritage.”
I looked at Andre, and he smiled at me with pride. The scientists bowed even lower, and I could see how excited they looked and how they were murmuring among themselves.
“We encourage you to do that, Luna. If we know your parents and their DNA makeup, we might be able to crack the case about your strange symptoms before it escalates into something more complex and dangerous. We have every reason to believe that the drugs we have administered to you should have some effect, but your special genes counteract them and make it difficult for your body to accept their assistance. We also need to know if you have any special powers that can…”
I looked at the lead scientist and scrunched my face up in confusion.
“Powers? What do you mean by powers?”
“Uhmmm… well, I… the science behind it is not really… well…”
“What Dr. Kale is trying to say”
A lady stepped forward from the scientists. She had beautiful dark hair and dark eyes. She wasn’t very tallprobably my height and had a lovely accent.
“is that as a descendant of Selene, you are gifted with a power from the Goddess herself, and once you are of age, it is supposed to manifest. Dr. Kale assumed that it already did but from your confusion, I am sure that it hasn’t.”
I looked at the female doctor and was intrigued.
“How do you know about them? How do you know about the Descendants of Selene?”
She chuckled politely.
“My mother used to tell me bedtime stories about them. They were just stories but I never thought that I would see the day that it would all be true. Your powers are what will set you apart from the rest of us. But we need to know now if you have felt anything different about yourself. Your power can inhibit the action of some drugs.”
I looked up at her eagerly, and the smile of excitement on my face slowly began to wither.
“I haven’t felt any change. I feel perfectly fine.”
The excitement that I had felt before had died away and was replaced with a sad, sinking feeling inside of me. I wanted all of this to be true, but I had no idea who my parents were or where they were from. Besides, I didn’t have any powers. I was fine. Maybe the scientists had misjudged all of this.
“Thank you very much for this information.”
Andre finally stood up snd and broke the silence in the room.
“This information has come at a very crucial time.”
They turned their attention to Andre and gave a deep bow.
“It is a pleasure, Alpha. We will try and work our way around her peculiarities and find a drug that works on her despite the recent discovery.”
They talked a little more to Andre, and finally, they left. Andre closed the door behind them as they left and we were alone again.
“Olivia, are you okay?”
I was stuck in limbo and was struggling to assimilate everything that I had heard. Part of me still felt like this was a mistake, like my mind was playing tricks on me.
I was jerked out of my thoughts by Andre talking on the phone.
“Pierre, I need you to check the pack archives and library. I want everything information that can be found about Selene’s Descendants, Descendants of Selene, whatever. Just get it to me as soon as possible. Also, send emissaries to Olivia’s pack. We need people to search her house and find a blanket with a special insignia. Let them be sent immediately. I need feedback as soon as possible.”
The call soon ended, and Andre pulled me close to him.
I was crushed gently against his chest. And his gentle heart calmed me down.
“Andre, I am…”
“I know. I am just as worried and confused as you are. This is a lot coming so fast. I’m just worried that I am burdening you with so much in such little time. You have our baby inside of you. We are going to take a trip to the most dangerous and hostile pack in the world, and now, there is a possibility that you are from a mystical race of werewolves.”
Hearing Andre’s soothing voice as he talked made me relax, and my anxieties slowly began to go away.
I hugged him tighter, and he pulled me in closer and kissed my forehead.
“What if it is all true? What if I am a Descendant of Selene?”
I expected to see worry and anxiety written all over his face, but he broke into a smile and kissed my face.
“Then I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I have always known that you were special.”
