Andre’s POV
It didn’t take long before a maid knocked on our bedroom door.
I opened it, and she told us that the research team was ready to meet me.
“Good. I will be in my study; tell them to meet me there.”
The maid bowed and left, and I was alone with Olivia.
I pulled her close and kissed her forehead tenderly.
“I am going to have a meeting with the research team. You just stay here and relax. You need to rest for yourself and the baby.”
“No.”
Looked at me with a soft plea in her eyes. She held on to me and was reluctant to let go.
“I want to know what is wrong with me just as much as you do. I am coming with you to the meeting.”
“Olivia, I want you to…”
She cut me off and talked to me pleadingly.
“I know you want me to rest, Andre but I need to know what is wrong with me first hand. Please let me come along with you. That’s all I’m asking.”
Her eyes were soft, and I couldn’t resist. She was right. She had more right than anyone to know what was really wrong with her.
“Fine.”
I took her hand lovingly, and we left the room together. We went to my study and waited for the maid to usher the research team inside.
They stood before us and I could feel an odd sensation in the air. They looked quite happy and excited. An expression I never imagined them to have, especially at a time like this.
“You said that you have something that you needed to tell us about Olivia.”
My solemn tone rang throughout the room, and the research team immediately wiped their smiles away.
“Uhmmm. Yes, Alpha. We actually made a presentation for it.”
I looked at them in surprise and Olivia looked at me stunned.
“Presenta…”
I had barely gotten a word out when they began to pull out a laptop and a mini projector.
They set it up in my study and turned off the lights. The leader moved to the front, and his team stood back watching him, grinning and shivering with excitement.
He cleared his throat, and the unorthodox presentation began.
“We actually had a closer look at Olivia’s DNA sample. We noticed a subtle yet significant difference in her DNA makeup that is very rare among wolves. Her proteins attach themselves to each other in a very peculiar way, and it is almost absurd for it even to be a stable compound…”
They pulled up a slide with letters and many hexagonal figures. I looked at it in confusion. I never really understood biochemistry, which was one of the many reasons I became a businessman.
“… Her hormone levels are exceedingly high, especially her estradiol, adrenaline, and oxytocin. Her bone density is three times as high as an average male werewolf and her muscle mass is just as much. She practically has the biological makeup of an overpowered male werewolf and this is rare for a lady and especially rare as she is able to maintain a feminine shape.”
They moved to another slide and I saw a picture of an X-ray that we had done at the hospital. I understand that the research institute had permission to access Olivia’s medical record for their research but I couldn’t seem to tell what they wanted me to look at. All I could see were the bones in her arms and their joints. They showed another slide, and it was a cross-section of the bones, and I think I could see the density difference. I had to squint my eyes, but I understood that her marrow was thicker and was replenishing her body faster than normal.
“So, what exactly are you trying to explain here?”
I had gotten quite tired of the explanation, and Olivia was already looking baffled by all the medical terms.
“What we are saying, Alpha,” answered one of the scientists. “Is that Olivia isn’t a normal wolf? Her biological makeup isn’t normal. In fact, it is nearly impossible, and the fact that she had lived this long and is this healthy is a stunning shock to all of us. We had to double-check our analysis, but they all came out the same. We are very much aware that our species breaks many known laws for biology that are considered normal to humans, but what she is exhibiting is not normal for werewolf biology. We are hesitant to dabble into mystical theories, but we did some research, and it all comes to point at…
My mind veered off to a tangent, and I stopped actively listening.
Mystical theories? What mystical theories?
All I could put together was that Olivia wasn’t a regular wolf. They had explained that her body structure was abnormal for a wolf. Was this a bad thing? Was she going to die?
“However, we will still conduct more extensive research, and hopefully, we will be able to find a way to tackle what is happening to Luna.
“Cut to the chase and tell me what the fuck is going on!”
I slammed my hands on the desk, and the room fell silent. Olivia had jumped in fright, and the scientists were all looking at me in horror.
“I have had enough of the long talk. I want direct answers now. What is wrong with my wife?”
The leader cleared his throat and looked at me fearfully.
His voice was softer and less audible but still had that tone of admiration and wonder.
“We don’t want to jump to conclusions, Alpha, but we have reason to believe that the Luna, Olivia, is a rare species of werewolves that are called “The Descendants of Selene”.
I looked at them, puzzled, but Olivia looked at them, intrigued and surprised.
“I… I am… a descendant of Selene?”
She touched her chest and looked at the leader in shock. He gave her a slow nod, and the rest of his team squirmed excitedly.
I cut off the atmosphere. This didn’t make any sense.
“Who are the Descendants of Selene?”
