Jaquan stopped adjusting his cufflinks and frowned. “What’s she doing here?”
“It’s business.”
“Is she being troubled?”
“No, not at all.”
Jaquan strode out of the room. “That’s good.”
Time ticked by, and the atmosphere on the first floor was already lively. On the large stage, a popular girl group was performing in minimalistic outfits, dancing energetically.
Below, people held their glasses high; some were having a blast, while others just sat drinking, completely oblivious to their surroundings.
Meanwhile, Callie admired the ambiance Jaquan had created. She approached the front desk to book a private room for a hot spring bath, only to be told that reservations were required in advance.
Those old guys weren’t lying.
She was about to look for Eliza and Jade when someone tapped her shoulder and softly called, “Ma’am.”
Startled, Callie turned around in the colorful lights and saw Anthony. “You…”
Anthony pulled her to a corner. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here for work. Is Nelson here too?”
Anthony nodded. “Follow me.”
However, the lighting was too dim, and Callie twisted her ankle while descending the stairs. The sudden sharp pain almost brought tears to her eyes.
On the top floor, a luxurious private room opened. A man lounged on the sofa, his face partially in shadow, exuding an air of noble elegance with features as clean as a painting.
Nelson had just finished a call and frowned when he saw Callie limping in.
Callie then asked Anthony, “Do you have any alcohol spray?”
Anthony snapped out of it. “I’ll get it right away.” He quickly found a small first aid kit and handed it to her.
Callie took it and limped over to Nelson, looking pitiful. “I twisted my ankle.”
Nelson, knowing her tricks, took the bottle from her hand.
Callie immediately lifted both her legs onto his lap, trying to please him.
His voice was cold. “Which foot?”
“The left one… Ah, be gentle… It hurts.”
“How did you twist it?”
“I was rushing to see you…”
The man’s dark eyes glanced at her deeply. His warm hand covered her ankle. “Don’t try to flatter me. Why are you here today?”
“It was Regan’s task, but she got injured, so I had to take over. You don’t blame me, do you?” She was getting better at acting coy.
Nelson massaged her ankle. “Little vixen.”
Callie wrapped her arms around his neck, feeling secure. “What are you doing here? I heard this is Jaquan’s territory.”
“Naturally, it’s for business. There’s a negotiation meeting.”
Before she could nod, Anthony added, “Mr. Oconnor knows you’re here and announced an intermission. There’s still a second half.”
Callie’s eyes lit up. Before she could respond, the work phone on the sofa suddenly buzzed.
Startled, Callie fished out her phone from behind her and glanced at the caller ID before handing it to him with a teasing tone. “Who’s this? No notes.”
Nelson took it and made a joke. “A mistress, do you believe it?”
Callie smiled silently as he answered the call.
Mikayla stepped out of the room just in time.
