Jade instinctively shielded Eliza behind her, looking to Callie for help.
“Boss, don’t bother with them,” Callie said while pouring wine. “Look, they are chicken.”
A few people laughed in agreement and turned their attention back to Callie. “You look familiar. Have we met somewhere before?”
Callie paused and quickly replied, “I used to work at Oconnor Group. We might have crossed paths during a job handover.”
“Oconnor Group,” the person repeated, then said, “Nelson from Oconnor Group is quite capable. Initially, this project was given to Oconnor Group. How did it end up with you? Have you met him?”
Callie forced a smile, thinking she had not only met him but also slept with him, just this morning.
“Mr. Oconnor is a big shot. I didn’t have the chance. As for the project, it was naturally outsourced by Oconnor Group.”
“That makes sense. If you had the chance to meet him, you wouldn’t be here,” the person said with a laugh, taking a sip of wine.
The others laughed along.
Callie didn’t understand the implication and asked, “Why?”
“You don’t know? Nelson and Jaquan from Scott Group have been at odds for a long time. This is Jaquan’s territory.”
Jaquan? The club was his.
Callie nodded belatedly, “Thanks for the tip.”
They chatted for about half an hour without giving her a hard time, but squatting for so long made her legs numb.
Carefully exiting the private room, her legs gave way, and Eliza caught her, “Callie, are you okay?”
Jade said, “Those bosses are really troublesome.”
Callie stood still for a moment, “Luckily, it’s over. The atmosphere here is nice. You guys go have some fun. We can leave later.”
The young ones hesitated, “Can we?”
“Of course.”
“What about you?”
“I’ll wander around too.”
Recently tormented by Nelson, she wanted to soak in a hot spring to ease her aches.
…
In a completely dark room with drawn curtains, the man who had slept all day on the king-size bed finally stirred. As he groggily woke up, his arm instinctively reached to the left but found nothing.
The emptiness jolted Jaquan awake.
He slowly opened his eyes, revealing beautiful obsidian-like eyes. His tousled hair added to his charm, and his jade-like face nestled in the white pillow looked harmless.
His mind went blank for a couple of seconds before clarity returned. He remembered flying for over twelve hours and coming here exhausted.
Faint noises from downstairs reached his ears, making him frown habitually. Had he slept all day?
Jaquan sat up and found the remote to turn on the lights. Under the light, the man sitting on the bed exuded an unapproachable aura despite his calm demeanor.
Mikayla quickly entered after receiving a call, “Mr. Scott, you’re awake.”
Jaquan responded with a hum, “Where’s Nelson?”
“He just arrived and is already at the negotiation table. Marilyn tagged along secretly.”
Jaquan smirked coldly and dressed quickly, standing tall before the mirror.
Mikayla hesitated.
“Speak your mind.”
“Our people saw Miss Marsh here too.”
