Chapter 2390: Saying Good Morning to Each Other

In the early morning breeze, Lisa wandered aimlessly in the garden. She was simply too sad and needed some fresh air. She looked at the flowers and plants to lift her spirits. The situation was already set; she couldn’t remain depressed forever.
Not far away, two maids were happily trimming the flower branches. They occasionally glanced at each other and chatted about something. As Lisa approached, she overheard their conversation.
“Did you know? Last night, the young master slept with Miss Campbell. It seems he’s not just getting engaged; he’s getting married.”
“I also know that Madam specially prepared a sexy lace nightgown for Miss Campbell and had Hazel keep an eye on things.”
“It looks like Madam is very satisfied with Miss Campbell. The Fritz family is going to have a happy event.”
“Our young master is so outstanding. Whoever marries him is truly blessed.”
“It’s just a pity for Lisa, coming all this way for nothing.”
“Beauty isn’t everything; sometimes it’s about fate, especially in matters of love.”
Lisa stopped in her tracks, feeling a sharp pain in her heart. She stared blankly at the joyful young maids, her sadness deepening. She didn’t ask them anything or refute their opinions; she didn’t want to make things awkward for herself.
She turned away dejectedly. In the Fritz family, she was just a guest. As she continued to wander on the lawn, she couldn’t help but glance up at the second-floor bedroom. The curtains were tightly drawn; they were probably still asleep.
She felt a distinct pain in her heart. Her hopes had been dashed; it seemed she had no fate with the Fritz family.
She liked Tom from the moment she saw his photo at her grandmother’s place. Learning he was single, she began to forge her resume and information, trying hard to win her grandmother’s favor and occasionally promoting herself. Finally gaining her grandmother’s approval, she was brought here… Seeing him in person for the first time made her even more infatuated.
Upstairs, in Tom’s bedroom, Agnes slowly woke up from her sleep. She was fully aware of where she was and how she felt. She remained in the same sleeping position as last night, lying on her side on his bed.
Looking further away, she accidentally saw him lying on the sofa. A few seconds later, Agnes looked at the bed in front of her; the quilt was neatly arranged with no trace of him having slept there. She couldn’t help but worry if he had caught a cold.
Gently lifting the quilt, she got out of bed quietly, took his suit jacket from a nearby coat rack, and walked towards him softly. In the dim light filtering through the window, she saw his face clearly. His sleeping expression was serene and distant.
Agnes bent down carefully to cover him with the jacket, feeling a sense of elegance and aloofness as if he were ascetic. Tom’s sleep was very light; even though her movements were gentle, he opened his eyes as soon as the jacket touched him.
When their eyes met, Agnes still hadn’t let go of the jacket. She froze slightly as if time had stopped.
Tom wasn’t startled by her presence. Instead, she was slightly taken aback by him.
Tom glanced at her wearing his shirt and felt a momentary daze but quickly regained his composure.
“Good morning,” he said.
Agnes snapped back to reality and let go of the jacket, standing up straight.
“Good morning,” she replied somewhat awkwardly, her mind blank for a few seconds.
Standing in front of the sofa with messy hair and wearing his shirt, there was an unusual lazy beauty about her.
Tom quickly sat up without staring at her.
“Did you sleep well last night?”
“Were you cold?” she asked with concern.
They spoke almost simultaneously and then looked at each other again, their gazes meeting once more.
