~Earlier that day~
I was at a meeting with the marketing team when the feeling took over, that restless feeling. It made me feel like something bad was about to happen. Even though I tried to bury it in and focus on the work I had at hand, it still didn’t go away.
I tried my best to concentrate on the meeting and soon enough, it was over. I left for my office and tried to calm myself down. I don’t know why I’m suddenly feeling like this today.
It got so bad to the extent that I decided to try and call dad to check if he was alright. What if Amara had found out that he is awake? He answered my call immediately and assured me that he was alright.
After talking to dad, a small part of me felt eased but the restlessness still didn’t go away; so, I decided to call Nicholas. Maybe talking to him would ease this feeling I’m getting.
Surprisingly, when I called him, he didn’t pick up. That was really weird because he always makes sure to keep his phone around him at all times. I called again and again and it was still the same thing.
This time, the feeling hit me with full force so I decided to drop everything I was doing and go home to see what was going on. I arranged the files on my desk and picked my car key before heading out.
At the doorpost of my office, I saw Fiona standing there.
“You’re leaving ma’am?” She asked when she saw my hand bag.
“Yes, I’m going home.” I answered as I walked towards the elevator.
“Okay, I’ll drive you.” She muttered as she followed closely behind me.
We got to the elevator and she opened it on me. When we got in, she pressed on the basement button and it took us there. We walked to my car and she opened the back door for me.
After I had settled in, she sat in the driver’s seat and zoomed off. Within a few minutes, we were already at the mansion I shared with Nicholas. When I got out of the car, the first thing that greeted me was an unfamiliar car in the driveway.
I never knew Nicholas owned this type of car. Or did have a guest? I needed to find out so I went in. When I got to the living room, I saw the most horrid scene I’ve ever experience.
It was much worse than the time I saw Nicholas with with that unknown woman. A fully naked woman was standing hand in hand with Nicholas. Even though he wasn’t naked, it didn’t make the scene any better.
“What the hell is going on here??” I asked in shock, announcing my presence to them. Nicholas turned to stare at me with bulged out eyes like he wasn’t expecting to see me here.
“Who are you?” The lady asked as she eyed me from head to toe, not feeling embarrassed to be naked in this situation. I ignored her and turned back to face Nicholas.
“Talk to me, what’s all this?” I asked again, my voice breaking slowly. Even though I was feeling an unbearable pain in my heart, I still wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I didn’t want to run off without hearing an explanation like the last time. It might not be what I think it is; I tried to reassure my self that way.
He let go of the lady and walked towards me immediately; “Baby.. it isn’t what you think it is. She’s just..”
“You must be his wife.” The lady exclaimed with her hands placed over her mouth when she heard the tone of endearment he was using to talk to me.
She walled towards us and stretched out her hand for an handshake; “I am Rachel Carthwright, your husband mistress.” She introduced with a wide smile on her face.
Hearing her words, I was stunned. I turned to stare at Nicholas with a raised brow before turning to look at her. Now that I had my full attention on her, I could finally see the similarities.
She had the same color of hair with that lady Nicholas was with and she also had the same build with her. How come I wasn’t able to recognize her earlier?
“Ohh.. forgive me. I never knew you were Rafael sister.” I muttered as I stared at her from head to toe, doing nothing to hide my disgust.
“What’s with that reaction? I just said that I am your husband’s mistress.” She reminded.
I stared at her with a small smile before I bursted out into laughter. “You? Nicholas’ mistress??” I asked as I tried to steady my laughter while Nicholas just stared at me in surprise.
“What’s so funny about that?” She asked, in fury.
“Honey, we both know that you aren’t Nicholas type.” I uttered and her face turned grim immediately but I didn’t stop.
“I mean, look at yourself in the mirror and compare it to me, even without any clothes on we both know who’s the better lady.” I added as I gave her a small twirl and that made Nicholas snicker softly.
“What did you just say?” She asked, anger and hatred laced in her voice.
I drew closer to her amd leaned in so she would hear me well; “I said just said that I’m better than you in every way.” I said, adding emphasis in every word I uttered.
“You..” She raised her hand and was about to hit me but I caught it with ease.
“Don’t start what you can’t finish lady.” I warned before letting go of her hand.
“Nicholas, your wife is busy humiliating me and you have nothing to say?” She whined as she turned to Nicholas.
Nicholas smiled and wrapped his hands around my waist pulling me close to him; “Well, it’s not like she’s lying when she said she’s the better lady. Why do you think I married her?” He asked, infuriating her the more and making a proud smile appear on my face.
“You!! I’m going to tell Rafael and make sure to wreck whatever partnership you have with him.” She threatened.
“Oh, please do, and the whole world would find out what a slut Rachel Carthwright is.” I said as I motioned to all of the cctv cameras in the living room.
Her eyes widened in horror when she realised all of her antics amd bare body had been captured by the cameras. She put on her clothes quickly and turned to face me with a death stare on her face;
“I’ll make sure you regret this. You and your husband will pay dearly for humiliating me.” She threatened but I just smile sofly and waved for her to leave. She let out a loud ‘humph’ before storming out.
After she had left, my smile disappeared and I turned to face Nicholas with a questioning look.
“Why didn’t you pick my calls?” I asked angrily.
“I’m so sorry, I was dealing with her so I didn’t know you called.” He answered with a look of remorse on his face.
“Why is it that she’s with you everytime you ignore my calls? Why didn’t you just let me know so I would have rushed here to deal with her?” I asked, my anger still not dissipating.
“You’ve done more than enough already. I’m sure she’ll never approach me after today.” He answered.
“I really hope so. How did she even find out about this place?”
“Maybe she found out from Rafael.” He answered and I nodded thoughtfully.
He placed his hands around my waist and pulled me closer to him; “Thank you though.” He muttered.
“For what?”
“For trusting and believing me today.” He answered, with a loving gaze.
“I know you. You’re a man of principle and would never have such a disgusting affair with your family.” I muttered, recalling how he told me Rachel was his cousin.
He smiled softly and leaned over, in an attempt to kiss me when we heard a loud thunder, startling us. I looked outside to window only to see that it was raining already.
At that same moment, a memory from my past life flashed in my head. I recalled Rachel’s fate and how she died on a rainy day. I hurriedly checked the calender on my phone only to see that today was that day.
