My dad had transferred all the shares in his name, Amara’s name and another borrowed name to me making me the highest shareholder in the company.
“What is this dad?” I asked, still unable to believe what I was seeing.
“I think it’s high time I did this.” He answered.
“But why??” I asked again.
“What do you mean by why? I was going to do it sooner or later.” He answered.
“But, what about you?”
“You’re my daughter Catherine. Everything your mother and I have built all over the years has always been for you. Now that you’ve proven yourself worthy of it all, I have no choice but to give it all to you, besides I think it’s high time I retire.” He answered.
“What? No.. you can’t retire. What about the company? The shareholders? They all respect you and would want you back as the chairman of the company.” I argued.
“I’ve made preparations for all this already. I’m an old man who’s unfit to lead the company. It’s time for someone younger and more agile to take the position. I know you can do this, and I’m sure you won’t let me down.” He explained as he patted my head lovingly.
I took in a deep breath as I tried to take in all dad had just said. Dad was finally giving up his position as the chairman of the company and handing it over to me.
I knew this was bound to happen as I was his only child but I didn’t think it would happen soon. I was hoping he would prepare me more for what was to occur. I really hope I can pull this off.
Being the CEO is one thing but being the chairlady of the company is a whole nother level and I didn’t want to disappoint dad.
“Okay dad, I’ll take over your position.. but what do you intend to do now that you’ve relieved yourself from your duties?” I asked.
“I would like to go on a long vacation. I’ve spent more than half of my life holed up in that company. Now that I’m finally free, I would like to travel round the world; see some beautiful places and people and experience the beauty nature has to offer.” He answered, making me smile.
“You’re right dad. The company has drained you too much, so you need to be set free now.” I said in agreement.
“Just so you know, I won’t travel for long. I’ll be back when you finally decide to have a real and open marriage with Nicholas.” He said.
“After all these are over, we’ll make sure to do that.” I promised him with a small smile playing on my lips.
After talking about that, we decided to talk about unimportant things to lighten up the sad and teary mood. Within a few seconds, we were already a laughing mess.
We talked and joked about so many unimportant things, so it didn’t take long for us to forget about him leaving the company.
“So how’s marriage with Nicholas treating you.” He suddenly asked out of the blue.
“It good, much better than I had expected.” I answered.
“I figured, it’s been a long time I’ve seen you this happy.” He said with a wide smile.
“Being married to Nicholas is like a dream come true. I’ve never felt so in love before. Every second I spend with him feels like heaven. He’s never for once made me regret getting married to him.” I said, my heart beating faster than usual as I imagined his handsome face.
“I’m happy you’re happy Cathy. Even though it’s the second trial, it’s still worth it.” He muttered.
“Yes dad, even..” My sentence was interrupted when I heard my phone ringing. I picked it up and smiled when I saw Nicholas’ name flashing on the screen.
“Speaking of the devil. Excuse me dad.” I muttered and dad signalled to me to go ahead.
“Hello..” I muttered the moment I picked up the call.
“My love.” His deep voice resounded, making me smile like a schoolgirl that had just been asked out by her crush.
“Can you come home now?” My ears tinged when he asked that question. I thought he isn’t back yet, why is he asking me to go back home?
“Are you…”
“Yes, so be quick.” He said before he ended the call. My eyes brightened up and I turned to face dad.
“I know you want to leave, you can go.” He muttered with a small smile.
“I’ll be back dad.” I said and gave him a goodbye peck before leaving.
I rushed out of my car after parking in the driveway. I entered into the huge building and I was greeted by petals of flowers, lined up beautifully on the floor.
I followed the direction in which the petals were laid amd it led me to the huge dining hall. There, I met my darling husband, standing in front of me with large bouquet of roses, my favorite.
“Flowers for my favorite person.” He muttered as he handed it to me. I smiled happily and received it. It took a small whiff of the roses ad sighed. They smelled fresh. I placed the roses on a surface and engulfed him in a tight hug.
“I never knew you were coming back today.” I muttered.
“I know, I wanted to surprise you.” He answered.
“So, are you done with what you went there to do?” I asked as I pulled away from the hug.
“Almost. I’m not supposed to come back yet but it’s just that I’ve missed you so much.” He muttered with a small pout. Seeing his lips like that pulled me in so I kissed him passionately.
“I missed you too baby.” I said after pulling away from his lips. He smiled and pulled me towards the table.
“I prepared a special something for us.” He announced as he showed me the delicacies spread across the table.
“Thank you so much.” I said happily and sat on the chair he had pulled out for me. After he had settled on the seat opposite me, I digged in immediately as I was so famished.
As we ate, we talked about other things. I shared my joy of how dad was finally awake with him, while listened patiently as always. I also told him about the company and he couldn’t help but praise my actions.
He noted that I had a far-sighted vision and a sharp eye for people. I couldn’t mention that this was related to my rebirth, knowing that this secret couldn’t be shared with anyone at all.
After dinner, I was slightly tipsy from the wine so I sat on Nicholas’ lap, and kissed him more deeper than I did before. The kiss led to something bigger and we spent the rest of the night in the bedroom.
