He’s awake

After solving the problem Amelia had caused and diminishing the rumors she spread, I decided that it was time to change more things in the company, so I increased the salary of all our workers.
We were in a fast changing economy and the inflation was so bad so I figured I could try to satisfy our workers since most of them use the salary paid to take care of their family.
I also provided the competent and hard working employees with additional bonuses and overtime pay for their hard work. It really boosted the company’s cohesion as the employees were satisfied with my decision.
We can’t be among the top companies in Washington and still can’t satisfy our own workers. I sighed tiredly and rested my head on the headrest of the chair I was sitting on.
I haven’t had a breathing moment for weeks now. It’s always been one thing and another that was taking my time. I didn’t even have the time to visit dad or to call Nicholas like I used to.
Earlier, I had planned to create time to visit dad as it had been really long since I last did but I don’t really think I can anymore. It’s a few minutes towards the evening and I still haven’t finished with the work I have.
I just have to finish it quickly or take the less important one with me to go to dad so I can finish it there. As I decided to continue with what I was doing, I heard my phone ringing.
I smiled, thinking it was Nicholas as he usually calls me around this time or in the night but it wasn’t his name flashing on the screen when I stared at my phone’s screen. It was the nurse assigned to dad.
I picked up the call immediately and placed it on my ear; “Hello??” I called out.
“Ms. Dyson.” The middle aged woman called out in relief when she heard my voice.
“I wasn’t expecting your call today. Is something wrong?” I asked, carefully not wanting to hear any bad news as she hardly calls my cell especially if she knew I was going to see dad.
“It’s big news miss.” She said, her voice was really loud but hardly holding any emotion so I couldn’t tell if it was good news or bad news.
“Big news? What is it?” I asked, in fear.
“Just come down to the hospital. Please be quick.” She said before she ended the call.
I stared at my blank screen silently as I thought about what she had just said. What was the so called big news that she couldn’t share through the phone?
What if?? My mind drifted to what happened to dad in my past life and my heart felt like a large log of wood had been placed on it. Oh no, I couldn’t lose dad again.
I stood up immediately, picked up my car keys and my purse and rushed put of my office, ignoring the weird look the employees were giving me. I didn’t wait for Fiona and entered the elevator.
After it dropped in the basement parking lot, I rushed out of it and ran to my car. I started the ignition and drove off in a hurry. My mind was filled with different scenarios of what might have happened to dad.
Most of them ended up wuth him dying and that made me more agitated. I couldn’t let anything happen to dad again. Everything I did in this life was for him and so he wouldn’t die again so why??
Why now when all of our problems are almost over? Please dad.. you can’t die again. My hands on the steering wheel shook vehemently as the scene from my past life replayed over and over again in my head.
I can’t lose you again dad. With that thought, I increased the speed of the car and kept on driving to the hospital without stopping. As I sped past the other cars, all that was on my mind was seeing dad hale and hearty.
I got to the hospital half the time I was supposed to. I rushed out of my car immediately after parking it and ran into the hospital’s building. I got to dad’s ward and saw the nurse standing outside impatiently like she had been waiting for someone.
Her eyes brightened up when they landed on me and she walked over to where I was.
“Have you been running?” She asked when she noticed how breathless I was.
“You told me to get here fast.” I answered.
“But..”
“Where’s dad?” I asked impatiently.
“He’s in his ward. He’d be so happy to see you.” She muttered with a small smile.
I stared at her in confusion, wondering what she was talking about. She urged me to go in and I did. The moment I walked through those doors, my feet suddenly felt heavy and my heart started beating faster than normal when I saw the scene in front of me.
Dad was seated comfortably on his bed and his eyes were glued to the newspaper he was reading. When he noticed he had a guest, his eyes turned towards me.
“Cathy??” He called with happiness as he stood up from his bed. Hearing his voice reminded me of the past and it gave me strength. I was finally able to move my leg so I ran towards him and engulfed him in a very tight hug.
Being in his arms again after weeks of watching him lay half dead on the hospital bed made me happy and teary at the same time. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my chest.
“I wasn’t able to control my emotins so it didn’t take long for the tears I had been holding for a long time to start pouring out of my eyes like a huge waterfall.
Hearing me sob, dad pulled away from the hug. “Why are you crying?” He asked in both surprise and concern.
“I’ve missed you so much dad.” I muttered, still sobbing really hard.
“Oh my baby..” He cooed and hugged me again. He patted me on the back as I continued crying on his shoulders.

After I was able to calm myself down, we sat down to have a talk. He asked about how I had been coping without him and I told him everything that had happened when he was in coma.
He smiled as he listened to my story. “I’m so proud of you Cathy.” He praised, making me smile happily.
“I’m sorry for the hurtful words I said to you that day.” I apologized when I recalled the day he collapsed.
“I said some things that I didn’t mean and almost drove you to your death bed.” I muttered, feeling remorseful.
“No, you did the right thing. I have been blinded by Amara’s words for a long time and neglected you, my daughter. Your words and action that day finally opened my eyes to the truth I have been blinded to for a very long time. Thank you so much.” He muttered as he placed his hands lovingly on mine.
“And to show you how thankful I am, I prepared something for you.” He muttered as he pulled out an envelope from his drawer and gave it to me.
I opened it and pulled out two documents from inside. I read the first one and in joy and surprise. It was a divorce agreement between him and Amara but only his signature was in it.
“I had my lawyer bring me this immediately I remembered what happened that day.” He muttered like he knew what I was about to ask.
“I trust you would help me fill in the second signature.” He added and I nodded as a way of answering. I was going to make sure Amara signs the divorce papers no matter what she tries to do to prevent it from happening.
“Check the second document.” He reminded.
I placed the divorce agreement on the bed and opened the second one. My eyes widened in shock as I read it’s contents. My dad had transferred all the shares in his name, Amara’s name and another borrowed name to me making me the highest shareholder in the company.
