When he finished his explanation, my anger had died down and was replaced with guilt. How could I doubt him in the first place when everything that he does is always to protect me.
If he hadn’t forced his way in earlier and forced me to listen to his side of the story, we might have been separated because I was planning to send him divorce papers when I get back home.
I stared at his injured hand and my guilt increased. Why didn’t I ask questions first or just let him explain what really happened before jumping into conclusions? I walked away from where he sat and opened the wardrobe. I pulled out my suitcase and placed it on the floor.
“What are you doing?” He asked as he walked towards me.
“Are you still leaving? But I already explained what happened to you.” I could hear the sadness and disappointment in his voice when he said that and it made my heart ache.
“Why would I leave you here when I came to see you in the first place?” I asked and I noticed the happy glint in his eyes. I smiled at him and opened my suitcase.
He watched me carefully as I reached for the first aid kit in my bag. I always made sure to carry it with me anytime I travel, just in case I need it and it came in handy today.
After I pulled it out, I held Nicholas’ unhurt hand and pulled him with me towards the bed. I sat him on it and sat beside him. I opened the first aid kit and pulled out a bottle of ointment.
I poured some on my hand and helped him massage his throbbing hand. As I treated his bruise, I felt his gaze on me. I raised my head and stared at him for a moment before returning my eyes back to his hand.
I don’t know why I was feeling shy but that didn’t stop his unwavering gaze from burning a hole at the top of my head. I closed my eyes and sighed, as the feelings for guilt made my heart feel really heavy.
“I’m sorry.” I apologized, thinking that was the reason he was staring at me.
“For what?” He asked back. I raised back my head, giving him a surprised look. Is he playing dumb on purpose just to tease me?
“I’m sorry for misunderstanding and doubting you. I couldn’t trust you well enough even after everything we’ve been through together.” I muttered, feeling remorseful.
“It’s fine. Considering what you’ve been through before, I wouldn’t really blame you. Any sane lady would have such thoughts.” He said.
“No, don’t try to excuse my behavior. The one thing that builds up a relationship is trust. I shouldn’t have let my past influence my actions in the present. You’re not and will never be Andrew or Amara.” I muttered and a wide smile appeared on his face.
“And I even hurt you in the process.” I added, massaging his hand the more.
“This??” He asked as he pulled his hand away from mine.
“It doesn’t hurt as at all.” He added as he waved his hands in front of my face.
“Don’t try to act like you’re strong. Just let me treat it before it gets worse.” I muttered as I pulled his hands back and continued massaging it.
Even with my head bowed, I could still feel him staring at me again. I raised my head only to see him smiling.
“What’s got you smiling like that?” I couldn’t help but ask.
“You..” He muttered as his smile increased.
“Me? How come?” I asked.
“I never knew you could be this jealous.” I stopped massaging his hands immediately he said that and I felt blush creep up my cheeks.
“Don’t be shy. You look so cute when you’re jealous.” He added, making my embarrassment increase so I turned away from him.
“I wasn’t jealous.” I denied.
“Oh sure. and you almost removed my hand because of that.” He teased further.
“Stop it!! I said I wasn’t jealous!!” I said at the top of my voice and he went mute immediately for just moment before he burst out into laughter.
I couldn’t bear the embarrassing moment so I stood up and rushed into the bathroom, locking the door behind me but that didn’t stop him from laughing. He is so annoying.

After spending about two weeks with Nicholas, I returned back to the company in high spirits. Since the day Jude and Amara had been exposed for their fraudulent activities, the company had become more stable.
The employees loved me the more and the shareholders respected me; not because I was my father’s daughter but because of how I had helped the company grow in just a short period of time.
After cleaning up all the mess left by Amara in the comoany, I decided to introduce new health and recreational activities within the company. I announced the reopening of the previously closed yoga and dance training room and game hall.
I wanted to encourage employees to stay active during breaks. My actions were supported by most employees, except HR director Amelia. Apparently, she was the one that gave Amara the idea to close it in the first place.
It seemed like she was hiding something as she didn’t stop there. She started spreading false rumors about me within the company, telling everyone about how I cheated on my husband and threw him out of the house, inciting the employees.
When I first heard about the disgusting rumors, I never thought that someone of her caliber would have the time to say those disgusting things about me.
I decided to not confront her but rather, deal with her in the most unimaginable way possible. Before my rebirth, I had heard about Amelia taking kickbacks and harming the company.
This time, when the company was being renovated, I deliberately bypassed Amelia and assigned the task to her subordinate, Sara. Sara was troubled by Amelia but still discovered issues in the communication with the renovation company.
She reported Amelia’s previous collusion with the renovation company, where they used inferior materials instead of the high-quality ones the company had purchased, to me.
I knew that Sara was going to be trust worthy and she didn’t fail me. I exposed Amelia’s actions, and many employees, who had been troubled by formaldehyde issues, found the culprit.
They attacked Amelia, and eventually, Amelia left the company and fled. As a way of rewarding Sara for her competence and credibility, I made her the new HR director.
