Miami hospital
Andrew felt great anger and helplessness surging through him when he saw the bruises all over Amara’s body and her bandaged arm. Her beautiful face had been wrecked by the number of beating she received.
Who would dare do this to them? First, he was pickpocketed and now, they were kidnapped and almost beaten to death. Never in his life had he recieved this type of treatment before.
Thankfully, he wasn’t beaten as harshly as Anara was. He was still able to move around normally. He only had bruises in some parts of his body.
When he heard Amara’s painful screams, he wished the ground would just open up and swallow him whole. He had never felt that helpless in his life. He pulled his seat closer to her bed where she laid.
“Amara..” He called softly and she opened her eyes slowly.
“Hmmm…” She hummed out a reply.
“How are you feeling?” He asked as he touched her face affectionately and that only made her wince out in pain. He quickly pulled his hands away before he could hurt her more.
“It hurts all over.” She muttered as she squeezed her face tightly.
“Did you pick fights with anybody here??” She asked.
“I didn’t. I don’t even know most people here in Miami except my contractor.” Andrew replied.
“Then who were those people amd why did they attack us. Is there something you aren’t telling me?” Amara asked again as she eyed him suspiciously.
“I’m telling the truth. I don’t know those people.” He denied.
“Alright… if you say so. I just h… ahhhhh..” Amara groaned in pain when she mistakenly moved her hurting arm.
“Sorry.. sorry.. stop moving…” Andrew apologized fervently like he had something to do with her pain. He couldn’t help but feel sorry for how she was.
He was the cause of it all. If he hadn’t called her out to Miami, she wouldn’t be in the hospital. And those people that dared to attack them..
Andrew fisted his palm angrily when he recalled how they were brutally assaulted. “I’ll find whoever those people were and make them pay for what they did to us.” He vowed.
“How would you do that? You don’t even know who they are.” Amara said.
“I know but I’ll surely find a way. They can’t go scot free after all they have done.” Said Andrew.
“I would like it if you would do nothing and just stay put.”
Andrew was really surprised by her words. “W.. why not??” He stuttered out.
“We are lucky that we weren’t recognized by the people that took us to the hospital. You trying to find the assailants would draw attention and Hector would find out about our affair. Do you want all of our plans to go to waste?” She asked.
“You’re right but…”
“No buts Andrew. Just let it go. The humiliation we’ve passed through in that wretched family is way worse than this small beating we received.” Amara said.
“Alright then. If you say so.” Andrew said in defeat.
He badly wanted to make those people pay for what they did but what Amara had said also made sense. They couldn’t blow up their cover just yet. When they have succeeded in all their plans, he’ll surely look for them.
The ward was silent for a while when they heard a phone ringing. It was Amara’s. A deep frown appeared on Amara’s face when she saw the name flashing on the screen.
“You don’t have to answer.” Andrew said.
“It would be more suspicious if I don’t. I just need to let him know I’m fine.” Amara answered and picked the call before Andrew could refute.
Hector had called to know if she had reached her parents home safely but when he heard the pain laced in her voice, he couldn’t help but have a feeling that something was wrong even though she tried so hard to deny it.
He told her he was going to take the next plane to see her and ended the call before she could refute.
“What did he say?” Andrew asked when he noticed her dreadful look.
“He’s coming to Miami.”
With fear and anger laced in his voice; “I told you not to pick the fucking call!!” He screamed at her.
“How am I supposed to know that he would come over?” She screamed back.
“So what do we do? What will he think if he sees us together??” Andrew asked.
“He won’t because you’ll have to leave now.”
“Leave Miami?? What do I say when he asks about the failed deal??”
“I don’t know. It isn’t my fault that you couldn’t get it.” Amara answered. Amdrew wanted to argue more but he held himself back. Even if they weren’t attacked, he’ll still have to tell Hector about the failed deal.
He didn’t hope it would be this soon. He was really scared about how Hector would react.
Back in Washington DC
I overheard dad’s conversation with Amara and quickly stopped him. I didn’t want him to leave yet as I haven’t taken him to the hospital for a full body check-up yet.
I lied to him that I wasn’t feeling okay and I needed him to take me to the hospital. He readily agreed and I took him with me to a hospital to see a doctor that Nicholas had recommended.
Dr. Festus did a body check-up on me and I had dad do one too since we were already there. My result was out in no time and it showed that there was nothing wrong with me nor my uterus. My wombed wasn’t damaged like I had thought.
I was so happy to hear that I could still conceive if I wanted to. We were asked to wait for a few days to get dad’s result. After that, we went back home and I helped dad pack his luggage.
Within minutes, we were on our way to the airport. I watched him head inside before I left. Since there’s no one around but me to run the company, I’ll have an excuse to infiltrate the finance team that Amara’s in charge of.
That way, I’ll finally be able to get more information about Amara’s embezzlement. Thank you so much Nicholas.
