After I took dad to the airport and watched him leave, I went back home to plan my next step. Now that I have an opportunity to finally expose Amara, I couldn’t let it go to waste.
I took out my laptop and did a lot more digging on the paper company Amara was using but it was so hard. She’s too thorough in everything she does. I needed more evidence and what I had wasn’t going to get me anywhere.
I decided to stop stressing myself and just wait till the next day which was when I was going to start managing the financial department. I turned off my laptop, tidied up myself and went to bed.
The next day
My peaceful slepp was disrupted due to the sound of my alarm ringing. I yawned tiredly and stood up from my bed. I entered the bathroom and turned on the tap before rinsing my face lightly. I wanted to wash away the sleep.
After that, I brushed my teeth and took my bath. I wrapped a towel around my body before heading into my walk-in closet. I massaged my skin with my lotion and proceeded to apply light make up on my face.
Then, I put on my designer suit and topped it with a pair of black stilettos. I let down my long hair from the ribbon and combed it. I put on small jewelries before admiring my look through the mirror.
“I look perfect!” I thought with a huge smile playing on my lips.
Seeing I was good to go, I took my suitcase and my suit jacket before heading to the dining. I had a light breakfast before I left the house. I couldn’t let what happened at the Cafe to repeat itself.
Dyson’s corp
When I got to the company, I was welcomed by almost the whole employees. Some of them still didn’t want be there but I didn’t mind, they are surely going to warm up soon.
Instead of going to the marketing department that I was assigned to, I went to the financial department. The workers there were really surprised to see me there.
I explained to them that Amara had been in an accident and wouldn’t be able to come to the company and that I would be there to take her place till she fully recovers.
Like I had expected, they didn’t warm up to me immediately. They shunned me severally and it was making it really hard for me to gather hard evidence against Amara.
But that didn’t stop me. I returned all of their rude acts and comments with a smile amd tried to communicate more with them. Being a businessman’s child really did help when it comes to communicating. It didn’t take that long for them to finally accept me into the team.
Hours passed by and it was already lunch break. My assistant, Kelly came over from the marketing department. I left her there to oversee things on my behalf.
She brought me my lunch before leaving. I didn’t want to head out to eat because I still had a lot of work to cover. I was about to take a bite from my food when I received a call from Nicholas.
He told me that he was coming back tomorrow and that he had a surprise for me. I was so happy that he was finally back and I looked forward to the surprise he was talking about. After that, we ended the call.
I ate my lunch and proceeded to continue working. Even though I was there to uncover Amara’s secrets, I still had to do some work so as not to blow my cover.
Hours passed and it was finally time to clock out. We tidied up our desks and left the office together. When we got to the parking lot, I exchanged goodbye greetings with all of the workers and was about to head to my car when I realised that I didn’t take my car keys with me.
Tiredly, I went back to the office. I turned on the lights and saw my keys resting idly on my desk. I picked it and was about to leave when I heard a soft thud behind me.
I turned towards where the sound came from but I didn’t see anything. I was pretty sure something was there so I decided to go check. I tiptoed and was about to reach there when the door to the office was suddenly opened from the outside.
I turned in shock only to find a worker enter the office.
“Mrs Catherine.. I didn’t expect to find you here. I thought you’ve left already.” She muttered as she stared at me in surprise.
“I came back to get my car keys.” I answered as I showed it to her.
“Oh…. I left my phone on my desk. I came back to get it.” She answered as she picked up her phone that was in her drawer.
“Ohh..”
“Let’s go now before they lock us in.” She urged.
“Alright..” I answered and followed her out, completely forgetting about the mysterious sound I heard earlier.

After Catherine and the worker had left, Matilda emerged from her hiding spot. She heaved a sigh of relief when she recalled how she was almost caught by Catherine.
She stared at the files she was asked to move. Catherine can never see these. She put them in an empty box before sneaking out of the the office with them.
Unbeknownst to her, she accidentally dropped one of the file on the floor.
Catherine’s night wasn’t peaceful like the last. She had another nightmare about the same thing. Like before, this one also felt so real. In her dreams, she was accused of murdering her father and was back to her cold cell.
She was forced by a warden under Andrew’s command to drink a black substance. Immediately after that, she felt like her intestines were being twisted.
She screamed out in pain and fear as the pain in her stomach hit harder every passing minute. She watched as Andrew’s smile grew wider and darker, he was enjoying her last painful moments.
She coughed and spat out black blood. In her last moments, the only thing that she saw was Nicholas’ bloody eyes. She screamed out and turned severally on her bed but she wasn’t close to waking up.
Her dreadful nightmare was finally ended when she heard her phone ringing. She woke up immediately, breathing really hard like someone that had just run a marathon. She looked over at her phone when it wouldn’t stop ringing and saw Nicholas’ name flashing on the screen.
“Hello..” She said after she had picked the call.
“Hope I didn’t wake up?” He asked.
“No.” She lied. She was really glad that he called at that moment. She didn’t know what would have happened if he hadn’t done that.
“Good then. Come outside.” He said.
“Why??” She asked in confusion.
“I’m at the gate.”
