Nicholas was in his study, busy taking care of some files that needed his attention when he got a call from Catherine. He stared at it in confusion, he wasn’t expecting the call at that moment as it was late in the night.
Before the call would end, he picked it and called out her name. There was a small pause at the other end before she finally said something.
“Nicholas.” She called. Her voice sounded so low like she had been crying. He quickly switched it to a video call and he was finally able to see her face.
Her face wad so pale like she had seen a ghost. Her eyes were red and swollen like she had been crying. She looked so pitiful that Nicholas wished he ould fly back to Washington DC and be with her at that moment.
“Catherine.. what’s wrong?” He asked in concern.
Catherine’s mouth quivered like she was about to cry again. A lone tear slipped down her eye and she sniffed.
“I’m so scared.” She muttered in fear.
Nicholas figured that whatever that’s making her act this way must be so dreadful seeing as she didn’t want to say what it was so he stopped asking about it.
Rather, he engaged her in light conversations so as to ease her tense state. Gradually, the fear and pain Catherine was feeling vanished and was replaced with a warm feeling.
Talking to him, Catherine felt more secure. It felt like he was with her at that very moment. Nicholas spoke in a very soft voice and as time passed by, Catherine’s eyes started to get heavy.
It didn’t take that long for her to fall into a deep slumber. Nicholas stared at quietly as she slept like a baby. He was glad that she called him first when she was having troubles and that he was able to help.
The only thing that made him sad was the fact that she couldn’t trust him enough with every single detail. It was quite obvious that something was up with her, same reason she was acting this way.
He really hoped she would one day open up to him about everything. He doesn’t expect it to be this soon as they were just getting to know each other. The pressure must have been to hard for her to handle alone even though she didn’t want to show it.
He knew quite well what she was passing through in her family must be too hard for her to bear. As he watched her, he vowed to protect her and help her overcome whatever challenges she might face in the future. Minutes passed after Catherine fell asleep but Nicholas still didn’t end the call.
He enjoyed watching her sleep so peacefully like she had no troubles whatsoever. When he was sure that she was really deep asleep, he finally ended the call.
After, he summoned Liam, his assistant. He whispered a few things to him and Liam nodded his head in understanding before he left. He had vowed to make all those that hurt Catherine pay and he was surely going to do that.
The next day
Miami international Airport
Andrew stood in the lobby as he anxiously check his wristwatch again and again. He looked up and could finally see Amara waking gracefully towards him.
After loosing his wallet and phone to the pick pocket, Andrew found his way back to his hotel and called Amara immediately through a public phone service. Like he had hoped, she booked a flight immediately, lying to Hector that she wanted to see her parents and she came running to him.
It didn’t take long for the plane to reach Miami. She was putting on fancy clothes, a big hat and sunglasses to cover up her face but Andrew could still recognize her through the crowd. She got to where he was and threw her arms around him before leaning in for a kiss.
He gave her a small peck before she pulled away. Amara stared at him silently, noticing the thin layers of frown on his forehead.
“What’s wrong?” She asked in concern and he started pouring out all his troubles to her right from the day he got to Miami.
Amara listened to him attentively like always and kept reassuring him that all would be alright but that didn’t stop him from complaining.
They booked a cab to Andrew’s hotel and he still didn’t stop talking about his problems all through the ride. It annoyed Amara but she didn’t say anything. She didn’t want to upset him the more.
Finally, the drive ended and they retired to Andrew’s room. The moment they entered the room, Amara pulled Andrew into a deep kiss and he responded immediately.
They had been away from each other for so long so at that moment, they couldn’t get enough from each other. Andrew took off Amara’s and his clothes and they were about to go to the next level when they heard loud bangs on their door.
Thinking it was the room service, Andrew stood up angrily because the mood had been interrupted and wrapped a towel around his waist to cover his naked body before he opened the door without bothering to check who it was.
Immediately, a group of hefty looking men walking in and they knocked him out before he could do anything. Amara was shocked by the intrusion and was about to scream out for help when another one of them knocked her out.
They tied them up and took them out of the hotel’s building secretly so as not to alert the other people in the hotel. They covered their faces and put them in a black van before zooming off.
When Amara and Andrew were finally awake, they couldn’t recognize their surroundings. It was also pitch black so they couldn’t see anything. Before they couldn’t register what was going on, their kidnappers started to hit them with heavy blows.
They beat them so hard like they had issues with them. The only thing that could be heard was the grunting of their assailants and their loud and painful screams.
After beating them into a pulp, the assailants stopped and took their almost lifeless body back to the hotel. They threw them in front of the building before zooming off.
Passers-by saw what had happened and alerted the police but the assailants had already escaped. They rushed Andrew and Amara to the hospital in time and they were treated immediately.
Amara took the worst of the beating as she had a broken arm and a lot of bruises all over her body.
Back in Washington DC, Catherine was woken up by news of their attack from Nicholas. She couldn’t help the dark smile that formed on her lips when she saw pictures of them. She was so happy that justice had already been served.
