I didn’t go to the company today as I took a day off from work due to my health issues. I wanted to head to the hospital for another checkup as I wasn’t feeling too good when Nicholas sent me that video.
All my sickness vanished the moment I watched the video. I couldn’t help but laugh out when I saw him acting like a maniac in the middle of the road. It was so funny.
I watched the video countless times as I couldn’t get enough of it. Revenge sure is a very sweet dish. As I was watching the video for the fifth time, my phone vibrated indicating that I got a text from Nicholas.
“What do you think?” He asked, referring to the video he had sent.
“It’s perfect. Just the way I envisioned it.” I texted back.
“Now, over to the next level but the target isn’t here.” He wrote.
“Yet… she wouldn’t waste a time here when she gets a distress call or text from him. We just have to wait for it. It won’t be that long.” I answered.
“Okay.” Nicholas answered and we texted about a few other things before we stopped. He ended the small conversation with “Take care of yourself Catherine.”
I smiled happily as I stared at the text. It might have no meaning but to me, it had a thousand. It was enough to warm my heart and make me feel like someone except my father cared about me.
After a few minutes, I stopped staring at the text and stood up. I had almost forgotten about what I had planned to do today. I took a shower and applied my lotion on my body. I put on a pair of black trousers, a white top and a black coat as it was chilly outside.
I topped it with a pair of white sneakers. I picked up my handbag and was about to leave the room when I remembered the ruby necklace that Andrew bought at the auction.
I smiled when a thought crossed my mind. It would make someone really jealous. I walked into my closet and opened the jewelry drawer in search of it. I stared at all of my jewelries buy there was no sign of the ruby necklace.
Where did I put it?? I checked the other drawer but it still couldn’t be found. Did someone come on here to take it?? Nah.. I don’t think so. Maybe I don’t remember where I put it. I checked my wristwatch and saw that it was already late in the afternoon.
I’ll just search for it when I return. With that thought in mind, I left my bedroom and was about to leave the house when I caught sight of Amara sitting leisurely in the living room like she was a queen.
I wanted to ignore her and leave when I caught sight of the large stone crested on her neck. How did she get it?? With anger surging deep inside of me, I walked up to her.
“Whay are you doing with that?” I asked as I pointed at my ruby necklace she was putting on.
“This…” She muttered as she touched it softly.
“Andrew gave it to me.” She answered.
“And why would Andrew give you something that you gifted me??” I asked back. It almost came out as a yell. Seeing my angry look, Amara tried so hard to hide her smug expression.
“Why not? I’m his mother in law so it’s only natural for him to please me.” She muttered. I stared at her silently, it was quite obvious what she was doing. She was purposely trying to make me jealous.
How stupid! But don’t worry Amara, it will do exactly as you had planned. Only better. Like a madwoman, I gripped the necklace angrily and pulled it off her neck, leaving red marks on her. She gasped in feigned shock when I did that.
After that, I went into dad’s room since he was at home and cried really hard like someone who just had her heart broken. Seeing me in that state, dad couldn’t help but worry.
“What is it Cathy? Why are you crying?” He asked as he stood up and walked over to me.
“It’s Andrew. He gave the ruby necklace he bought for me to Amara. Why would he do that? I’m his wife but why would he treat me this way?” I asked as I continued crying like a baby.
Like I had expected, dad bursted out in fury. “How dare that scum! How dare he treat my precious daughter this way? Has he no shame? How could he do that to you? I was hoping he would change but it seems he doesn’t want to. Don’t worry, as from today, the marriage between you two is over.” He said.
Amara, who had followed me into my father’s room had started to panic. I smirked when I saw the beads of sweat forming on her forehead. Seeing that things weren’t going as she had planned it, she wanted to defend herself when;
“Dad, it hasn’t gotten to the extent of us separating.” I muttered.
“But… isn’t that what you wanted?” He asked.
“It wouldn’t really be nice if I divorced him over small matters like this. I just wanted you to warn him. You know I don’t like sharing, not even with people that are close to me.” I answered.
“Okay Cathy, if that’s what you want. I’ll make sure to give him an earful when he gets back. He’ll never do something like this to you again.” Dad promised.
I smiled and hugged him; “Thank you so much dad.” I muttered and turned my gaze to Amara.
She had this relieved look on her face but when my eyes met hers, her agitation returned. I smiled and turned away from her. She must be feeling really stupid by now. Her useless plan to make me jealous just backfired.
I just made one thing clear through my actions. I just made her see that I was back as the only daughter of the Hector Dyson. No one, not even her can ever take my place in this house nor in my father’s heart.
No matter how much he favors her, it would never surpass the one he has for me. I was his daughter long before he took her in as a wife. There’s no changing that title. Not now, not ever.
Later that day
It was already late when I returned back from the hospital. Thankfully, there was nothing wrong with me. I didn’t tell dad where I went to because I didn’t want him to worry about me. I had dinner with him and Amara before I retired back into my room.
I took a shower before putting on my pajamas. I plopped down on the bed and sleep took over immediately. That night, for the first time since I was reborn, I had a nightmare.
Not just any nightmare. I dreamt that I was back at that cold cell. I saw Amara’s and Andrew’s gloating look as they watched me wither away like a dead flower.
I saw my father’s dead body laid close to me in the cell. And I saw Nicholas red eyes. This time, it wasn’t tears coming out of his eyes, he was crying out blood and kept on screaming my name.
It felt so real and scary that I woke up with a loud gasp. My bed was already soaked due to the amount of sweat that was leaving my body. What the hell was that??
I wrapped my hands around my legs in fear as the images flashed through my head again and again. It got to the extent that I was crying like a baby. Why did I have to relive those dreadful memories again??
I can’t bare it anymore. I shakily reached for my phone and dialed Nicholas’ number. He’s the only one I can talk to at this moment. He picked up the call immediately and called out my name.
I smiled when I heard his voice. “Nicholas.” I croaked out.
