Rosalind felt a shiver of fear, so she didn’t wander far, choosing instead to sit down on a nearby bench. The call was answered, and the voice of the taxi driver came through.
“I’m sorry to bother you so late!”
“It’s okay, where are you now?” Rosalind lowered her voice, not wanting to disturb the rest of the hospital’s occupants.
“I’m near Sereneway Road, can’t seem to hail a cab, and I’d like to get back to the hotel.”
Following the name of the hotel he mentioned, Rosalind checked her map, then carefully explained the route and turns he should take. He listened quietly until she confirmed, “Did you get that?”
“Yes, I’m listening.”
“That should be about right, if you still can’t find it, keep messaging me, or you could walk to the main street, there should be taxis there.”
“Okay.”
Rosalind glanced at her watch and whispered, “You’re in Jingtown now, shall I bring you the invoice tomorrow?”
“No need,” the driver replied without hesitation, “I’ll ask if I need it.”
Rosalind was puzzled. She had deleted him from her contacts before, and he had added himself back just for this invoice. Yet now, as she repeatedly brought up the invoice, he seemed to be evading it, showing no urgent need.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
After these final words, he hung up. Rosalind’s mind was in disarray, and she stopped pondering over it. She stood up from the bench, intending to head back to the ward when suddenly she heard the sound of something being kicked behind her! It was very close by. What could it be in the middle of the night? Frightened, she quickened her pace. After a few steps, she bumped into something hard-a chest! Startled, Rosalind looked up- It was Brandon.
“Miss Ruell, what’s the matter?”
“Nothing, nothing,” seeing him calmed her slightly, “it’s just a bit scary at the hospital at night! What about you? Did you come out for something? Did Natalie wake up?”
“No, she’s sleeping well, the doctor already removed her IV. I was worried since you hadn’t returned, thinking something might have happened to you.”
Brandon stood close by, his tall figure casting a large shadow over her, shielding her from the light.
“Just talking to a friend,” Rosalind smiled, “Now that she’s had her IV removed, can we go back?” Brandon nodded, “Yes! I’ll come back to see her in the morning, Miss Ruell, you can go ahead to work.”
Rosalind thought for a moment and agreed. After all, she wasn’t here on vacation, and she couldn’t afford to delay her work. If Lion blamed her later, it wouldn’t bode well for either assistant’s future. As their figures receded into the distance, a man emerged from around the corner of the corridor. Ulric squinted his dark eyes, the displeasure evident in his gaze. Why were there so many bothersome men around Rosalind… He took out his phone and dialed Cedric’s number.
“Look up what projects Eastsun Corporation has recently in Jingtown.”
“Right away! Mr. Walters, are you in Jingtown?”
“Yes.”
“Shall I arrange something? There’s always a presidential suite available in Jingtown’s hotels.”
“No need,” Ulric’s thin lips moved slightly, his voice grave, “just find out what I’ve asked for, and also, this man’s information.”
He moved his slender finger, sending over the photo of Brandon he had just taken.
“Understood, Mr. Walters, I’m on it right now.”
